[MOC] #691309 Geological Planetary Expedition

Recommended Posts

I was trying - and always am - to base MOC rather upon those old space design concepts and principles which mean being more airy with less bricks, not bulky nor filling every hole with something :grin: BUT at the same time trying to implement some new bricks and ideas of my own...hope you'll like it.

As for the colors combination: I was trying to come up with something that was never used before and making it my own standard used in all of MOC which evolved to this combination of:

- primary color: yellow

- secondary colorS: black and white

- dark blue trans windows and canopies

Those colors work well with me. Nice throw back style with theme which does a great job capturing the essence of Classic Space without the in your face scheme.

Keep up the good work.

Looks good. The vehicle itself is interesting. The only thing I am not crazy about is the choice of astronaut helmet. The backwards rebel trooper hat just seems off.

Thanx...in the first stages of inventing this I was also playing with the idea that the back vehicle part would even rotate in the joint part at its top but then I decided not to as it could introduce some not pleasant side effect when playing with (vehicle could unintentionally rotate to sides etc.)... :classic:

As for the helmet: well I was looking for something original and I come up with this reversed rebel helmet which to me looked and still looks interesting although not perfect, I did not want to use some existing and used combination on the minifig as I was trying to come up with my own subtheme...if there were an option to design my own helmet I definitely would but there is no such option as you may know therefore this seemed to be one of the few pssibilities I had.

BTW: wasn't there such very similar helmet concept in SW itself? I mean those operating the big laser on DeathStar, those black guys...hm? :look:

Oooh, very nice!

Thank you.

Good work- I like the helmet and the look of the minifg. There almost is an alien like quality about it.

:classic: Haha, thanx a lot...well, now as you say it I see it too, oh boy oh boy where is Reply when we need her?

I really think you've succeeded here. It totally feels like a logical continuation of Classic Space - Futuron - Space Police - Ice Planet, etc. I would definitely buy this line!

Yup, exactly!

I have to admit, the helmet doesn't quite work for me either but I see what you're going for. Probably needs a new piece there.

Thanx a lot for your support! :classic:

It's OK cos as I've said before - and I see you've noticed - this looked almost like the only one acceptable option for me being not used by LEGO (of course - no one uses reversed helemts, right? )...and as there is no actual optipn to design my own and implement into LDD...you know the rest.

But on the other hand I have to admit I really do like it after a while in the end...

Hi there

Well, here I am again after a quite long time, ehm kind of resurrection of the topic, but the thing is that after I really build this MOC (actually it was the first MOC I designed that I really built) I found several problems, misconceptions and stuff (you know: LDD do not support real world physics yet... ;) ), therefore I did some readjustments and remakings, so the actual design changed in a way + I also added some new functionalities that were not thought about in the original design (cos when I built it I have realized the back mobile part looks really cute and it may be nice to have it somehow separable from the front "tall" part with the small craft + I also return to initial design of canopy for the small craft sitting at the top of the front wheeled part, namely the CS canopy #4474 as it allows me more depth for the minifig inside and also enabled changing the craft design to somewhat more natural look comparing to previous version)...so here are the renders (as I already dismantled it again for other tests of my other MOCs :-D ) //...rendered just small picture for quick result, higher quality renders may come later

Whoa, I missed this beast the first time around. Love it! This thing is a twelve wheeler and looks like it has a lot going on.

Thanx and yes: this set is highly modular, it consists of 3 parts + one small scooter, later I am planing to post some quick renders of its features... :classic:

Seeing this awesome creation makes me feel sad I didn't grow up in the golden age of LEGO.

:classic: YAP, when it comes to that 80's were absolutely superb as for the CS LEGO theme, I can only agree

+ thanx for your kind comment, of course

I like your work and I think your concept for your MOCS (style + colors) are very good. I don´t love the new space Mocs where all is lokking like Star Wars Chrap. Yours are unique, I like it. You have always a classic look. It could have been Futuron 2 what you are biulding, don´t change anything, please.

Firstly: thank you so much for your encouraging comment! And yea, when I think about it it really could be meant like F2, ehm, in a way...:grin:

Secondly: as for "the other's MOCs" I think I've said the same as you did now elsewhere on this forum before a long time and got a bit angry reactions (or I took them as that  ) so I rather did not comment on them from that point on tho I still think the main "prob" is that they simply all look the same, bulky, all studs covered etc., yet many of them are A.) just some obvious remake of some existing stuff/previous original LEGO set still claiming as original...and to my big surprise ppl comment on them like "prefect and original" :look: , B.) some X-th repetitive variation on mecha design which is already quite boring to me (tho I understand there are many who love it so much they do not care)... :sceptic:

Anyway, as the saying in Slovakia goes - "Many people, many tastes" - I have no actual problem with it, just wanted to say I am with you on that  + of course, others may think the same about my work tho I think they would have really hard times finding mechas or redesigned LEGO models with MOCs of mine, but who knows - people are inventive in everything, right?

Ah, I knew this thing had to split apart! Much much cooler now that I can see exactly how. Totally awesome!

I love the two ground units. The main ground vehicle looks great and the rear ground unit captures the feel of a mobile outpost.
