Saberwing40k Posted January 21, 2015 (edited) Okay, I want to include some music in a video presenting an upcoming MOC, and I am wondering some things. First, this is a video with the music I would like to use: Would I be able to use this music, or is using copyrighted stuff a bad Idea? I would think that using music like that would be fair use, but maybe not. In any event, since the artist is independent, I may be able to contact him directly, and ask permission. Do you guys think that that is needed step? Finally, what is a good place to find music that is free to use in videos? Rascko Posted January 21, 2015 Would I be able to use this music, or is using copyrighted stuff a bad Idea?AFAIR, from time to time, YouTube is deleting video with copyrighted music, but they're usually deleting/desounding videos with music from major recording companies, like Sony/TimeWarner. For sources of free music I could recommend: 1. Read this, some useful stuff could be found here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/3376882?hl=en 2. http://freemusicarchive.org/curator/video

Saberwing40k Posted January 21, 2015 Thank you guys. That Audio Library thing was really useful. Going by that, I'd actually be able to use this music, but it would not be playable in Japan. Is anybody on the Technic forum from Japan? Also, I think we should have a Technic Resources topic that is pinned, that would include things like building techniques, resources for modeling, and tutorials on how to take pictures and make good videos. Jim, what do you think?
miguev Posted January 21, 2015 Yeah, +1 on a Technic Resources topic, adding music to videos is a particularly tricky topic. So far I only found one safe approach: use music licensed under Creative Commons, e.g. the music in the GoPro Hero 2 and Hero 3 ads are like that, I used them on videos (e.g. my TC5 entry) and Youtube only told me to acknowledge that the video contains 3rd party music, and the video remains available to everyone. Lipko Posted January 22, 2015 (edited) My experience is that you can use music, you only have to accept that you use 3rd party content, and you are good to go. You can an iTunes icon and maybe some banners on you video. Except for Germany... Videos won't be displayed (not only muted!) there if the track is from a Mayor Label. Maybe not an assured method, but check if a music is available on the German Youtube (there are methods on the net for viewing videos as if you were in any given country). If it is then you are good. Saberwing40k Posted January 22, 2015 Hello! I live in Japan. As a Technic builder, I'd like to watch your video! This is my very first video in 2012. I used Journey's song in my CD (3rd party content) and didn't know if it worked or not. Can everyone watch this? Have you actually tried watching the video? I changed some setting on Youtube, to see the site as if I was from Japan, and I was able to watch the video just fine. Also, I found out there is a way to use the music you want without copyright restrictions. Since using it in a homemade video is fair use, you can dispute the copyright restrictions, as long as you use this copyright disclaimer: "Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use." There is a Youtube video that shows how to do it: Also, Drakmin, many thanks for posting those links. the music is not quite what I'm looking for, but it should help other people.
