Thoughts on the Scorpion Pyramid (7327)

Recommended Posts

A couple of weeks ago I decided to start building some of the sets I had that were just waiting to be built. I looked at the time I had, the sets I had, the size of the sets and the colors in the set. Well, for size and color the Scorpion Pyramid won out. I really just wanted to assemble it to learn what I could learn before parting it out into my inventory (which is why I bought it in the first place).

The build was interesting, but I was not really satisfied with the resulting structure. I realize that I was not the target audience for this set as it is more of a play-set rather than a display model. The build was fun and I did learn some things, but the overall look of he pyramid left me cold. What I really did not like was the back sides of the pyramid being made from plates rather than slopes like the front and front sides. I realize that using slopes could have made the set cost more and turning away some of the target audience as a result.

I thought of BLing the slopes to make it like I wanted it but after checking the cost I decided the money could be used for other sets and it wouldn't make it into something I would keep anyway, so I decided against it. Another reason I would not keep it is that it is open back and I am for the most part not a fan of open back. So I took it apart to make room to build something else.

Now today I started to think (even though the parts are now in a box) ... How about a full pyramid?... Maybe I would like that? Well, the baseplate is not made so that I could make a full pyramid as the resulting structure would turn out wider than deep, so maybe not.

Still I am interested... I got to wondering if anyone has seen a fully enlosed pyramid on the 7327 baseplate?

Maybe I will look further into it from a cost and can it be done on the baseplate standpoint.

Thoughts?

I bought two copies of the scorpion pyramid so that I could build a pyramid. Using the instructions I built them both and joined them together to build a fully enclosed pyramid. But I found there was no way to use the base plate. The pyramid ended up looking wrong because of the steepness of the front. I wanted the base as a perfect square so instead I used a 32x32 base plate and built the pyramid. I used the same style as used in the set but replaced the panels on the sides with bricks.

I still haven't found a use for the baseplate.

Great! Do you have photos?

Yeah, what to do with the base plate? Well, maybe I will use it in something.

Thanks,

Got mine on clearance for about $42 USD... but to be totally honest, the pyramid was almost an afterthought. I was really in it for the figs-- those Anubis Guards are some of the most exquisite minifigs ever produced by TLG.

I picked it up for the parts and figs too. Originally thought of using it for a catacomb type idea for Jabba's Palace...then came the Rancor!

I got the set for around $40 and for the price, I liked it. Sure the pyramid on the inside is rather blah, but it was built as a playset. On the outside, though, it's a marvel IMO. Maybe I'm playing devil's advocate here, but I found the build to be enjoyable, if a little tedious. Best part of the set is easily the minifigs, especially the Anubis and Amset figures.
