Chris1594 Posted May 31, 2014 wasn't sure where to post this on here so here I go. Hey everyone I'm new here and will more more lego minifigure thread questions. I'm trying to look for the original lego space minifigures the blue, red, black and yellow ones from the 80's not the remade ones from the vintage collection but all i'm finding is ones that say "Benny" and ones that look questionable. I have been looking on Ebay but wasn't sure if anyone had some tips so I don't get a rereleased one also looking for the original blacktron space minifigure on ebay as well so if someone can help me a bit finding these on ebay i'd appreciate it. I just recently got into collecting minifigures. I am from the U.S.A.
BirdOPrey5 Posted May 31, 2014 When you say original there were the all blue guys like Benny, or the blue/white (or various other colors) that kind of had like a zipper going diagonally along the torso- were you looking for a specific one? How much are they going for?

You can look specifically for the precise figures you want. It has a lot less shady stuff like "Benny" figs than E-bay.
emilstorm Posted May 31, 2014 (edited) I think you would have better luck at finding a decent price for then at bricklink, and a better chance of them actually being original:) Edit: faefrost bear me too it, was checking out at the super market :) Edited May 31, 2014 by emilstorm
Chris1594 Posted May 31, 2014 Http://www.bricklink.com It is a large buyer and seller matching site for Lego. You can look specifically for the precise figures you want. It has a lot less shady stuff like "Benny" figs than E-bay. Seems like a good site I just wish there was pics of the actual item you're viewing and not a generic picture looks like a real good site though. When you say original there were the all blue guys like Benny, or the blue/white (or various other colors) that kind of had like a zipper going diagonally along the torso- were you looking for a specific one? How much are they going for? I'm looking for those as well lol
emilstorm Posted May 31, 2014 (edited) I think there is a button to contact the sellers in there so you can ask about the condition of the item or request a picture. My experience from BL is that generally people are very honest about the condition of listed items, and often write in the description if it is very worn or has play marks. But there is always a risk. Edit: here is a guy who has a bunch http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?sID=370517&itemID=54714697 As you can see he has different prices depending on the condition, and a description for each. These vintage figs tend to be a little pricey, and therefor people take a little better care of describing them. You can find them cheaper on there, but then the seller often has only one fig for sale. I don't know how people normally find what they are looking for on BL, but I often go through the Referrence Catalog rather than the search function, I find that a lot easier:) Edited May 31, 2014 by emilstorm
Chris1594 Posted May 31, 2014 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400719052507 Just scored this on ebay and communicated with the seller about it and it's supposed to be the original and has the solid stud head. Price wise as far as minifigures I don't know too much as far as good price to bad if that makes sense lol. As I mentioned i'm new to collecting minifigures. emilstorm Posted May 31, 2014 The little guy definedly looks great :) but it is going to be expensive getting them individually. I would say this one is a little expensive, but if you are only getting them for collecting I guess it's ok. If I buy figs it's in larger quantities and for MOCs so i browse around to find the best deal:)
Phrea Posted May 31, 2014 (edited) Just FYI: of the first classic space wave, only the yellow, red and white figs were made. The black and blues came a few years later. This is why I think Benny should've been red, yellow or white. Edited May 31, 2014 by Phrea
Lyichir Posted May 31, 2014 Just FYI: of the first classic space wave, only the yellow, red and white figs were made. The black and blues came a few years later. This is why I think Benny should've been red, yellow or white. Pretty sure Benny was made in blue to match the color scheme of his ship. That kind of consistent visual language helps viewers, especially those who aren't experts on classic Lego space, to easily identify which creations are associated with which characters (such as on the submarine all of the main characters build). 1974 Posted May 31, 2014 Just FYI: of the first classic space wave, only the yellow, red and white figs were made. The black and blues came a few years later. Nope, red and white came first in 1978. Then yellow in 1982 and finally blue and black in 1984 But I do agree that Benny should been white or red (red, imho) Pretty sure Benny was made in blue to match the color scheme of his ship. That kind of consistent visual language helps viewers, especially those who aren't experts on classic Lego space, to easily identify which creations are associated with which characters (such as on the submarine all of the main characters build). Yeah, but there's was no blue CS figs with any CS blue/grey/trans-yellow spaceship back then Only yhing that comes close is the 6971 base No need to dumb it down, a red minifig would have been better, I think

Then yellow in 1982 and finally blue and black in 1984 Not really, check for instance this picture, from 1979: http://brickset.com/...own-Minifigures [you can see the yellow spacefig in the background] Or this set from 1979: http://brickset.com/...ace-minifigures And so on. But you are right in the sense that it seems like the first TWO classic space minifigs were white and red. EDIT: the first regular LEGO set where the yellow classic space minifig appears seems to be this set http://brickset.com/...urface-Explorer WAY later than I expected, because half my minifigs from that time are yellow. They must have all been from the minifig packs. Edited June 1, 2014 by Phrea
1974 Posted June 1, 2014 (edited) That's right, I forgot those obscure minifig packs! (I even have 0016) I wonder where they were relased? They didn't feature in any normal catalogue and I've never heard of anyone finding them in the wild .. And why did TLG wait three years to put them in normal sets? Jens Nygaard probably knows Edit : There's a rather interesting post from the ever so knowledgeable Todd Lehman about these minfic packs : http://news.lugnet.com/space/?n=1554&t=i&v=a So, it's a Samsonite thing! And while the artwork is copyrighted in 1978 (not 1979 as listed at brickset.com) there's speculation that 0014 wasn't released before 1982 (as stated at bricklink.com) Funny, that it's Huw starting that thread Hmm .. Phrea Posted June 1, 2014 No idea, but about a third of my classic space minifigs are yellow, and I stopped 'collecting' [read: wanting LEGO] around '81, because I turned 10 then, and considered myself 'too old' [can you imagine...?!] for LEGO.

I clearly remember buying the 6880 After that, red/white CS minifigs where old hat .. man I treasued him dearly (and NO, he is most certainly not naked!) Chris1594 Posted June 1, 2014 You guys are very knowledgeable there was a few different space variations I wanted to get even with blacktron minifigs but even those seem harder to find because they were re released as well. What I plan on doing is displaying these in a big wooden display shelf with a UV acrylic door. I wanted to get a lot of minifigs from the 70's,80's and 90's to collect other than the space ones not sure what others to collect :-/

Chris1594 Posted June 1, 2014 Is there a way I can tell the difference between the 're released blacktron minifigures vs the originals?
1974 Posted June 1, 2014 According to Bricklink, they're identical
AmperZand Posted June 1, 2014 I don't know how people normally find what they are looking for on BL, but I often go through the Referrence Catalog rather than the search function, I find that a lot easier:) Me too. I thought I was alone in doing that. When I'm looking for something, I almost always start with the catalogue, not the official search.
