Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie

Recommended Posts

I saw it on Friday, and while it isn't at all amazing, it's not that bad. The action scenes were the best part of the movie, and Megan Fox actually did a good job as April O'Neil (although many might disagree).

My biggest problem with the movie is they learned ninjutsu FROM A BOOK. It makes no sense at all. It also bugged me that there was little to no character development with the turtles and Splinter that in times of trouble (such as when Splinter was beat up), it didn't have the emotional impact as it should have if we had gotten to know the characters better.

Also, as many have pointed out, I think Eric Sacks was supposed to be Shredder (Sacks=Saki), but they changed it last minute due to everyone complaining about it. Because of that, his character doesn't feel as relevant to the story, and Shredder himself comes off more as Eric's sidekick. If they were going to use a scientist as a villain, they might as well have gone with Baxter Stockman.

Also, this movie has the same plot as The Amazing Spider-Man. :sceptic:

I feel like this movie has a bit of an identity crisis. The tone is inconsistent as it switches from being funny to taking itself seriously.

All in all, this movie is good enough to be enjoyed, just nowhere near the level of a Marvel movie, for example.

I agree with you, it wasn't a bad movie at all, i especially liked the action scenes. Megan fox did a great job as April in my opinion.

As a huge turtles fan, I thought it was pretty terrible. In order to keep this semi-structured I'll number my main problems with this movie.

1. The script

Wow, this has to be the laziest superhero movie since Green Lantern! It's so typical and cliche. Not only that, but it appears many elements were borrowed from The Amazing Spider-Man. What?

2. The origin

I'm okay with different takes on the origin. Hell, I grew up with one version of the origin but now my favorite version is the one in the recent IDW comics. What they did here was okay... Until they took away any of Splinter's ties with Hamato Yoshi and Oroku Saki. Hey, Liebesmen! The interesting thing about the Splinter vs. Shredder fight isn't that it's a rat fighting a cheese grater! It's their motivation! This movie took away their motivation and I couldn't have been more bored during their fight scene as a result.

3. The Turtles themselves

Okay, this may be a minor point, but they weren't really ninjas in this movie. Yes, the movie claims that they can disappear after a fight, but they don't fight like ninjas. They fight like soldiers. Wouldn't it be cool if there was a scene where, after the Turtles got their shells handed to them by Shredder, they had to use stealth to take him down? Nah, fight in the open like Splinter taught you! *Sigh*

4. The obvious rewrites

It's so obvious that Eric Sachs was meant to be Shredder. It's so, painfully obvious. That whole scene where he talks to April O'Fox in the exposition room proves it! I know fans (including myself) were getting furious, but they shouldn't have changed it that late in the game. It comes off pretty sloppy. The whole change makes Sachs a worthless character and Shredder wasn't even faithfully portrayed so what was the point?

5. Characterization... or lack thereof

Want to know how fleshed out the Turtles are in this movie? Leonardo is the leader, Raphael is the hothead, Donatello is the brains, and Michaelangelo is the party dude. That's it for what we get in terms of characterization. Yes, I know this is produced by Michael Bay. But does that mean I should lower my standards? Wouldn't it be cool to see why Leonardo was chosen as the leader or how Raphael got so hotheaded? There could also be a cool opportunity for character if, say, one Turtle had a closer relationship with one brother than another. Something, anything! All Liebesmen had to do was take out one of Megan O'Neil's pace-breaking scenes!

This movie is infuriatingly bad. :wall: Writing this post helped me get through my boiling anger though.

2007 Teenange Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie:

The movie was entertaining and fun to watch. The CGI, animation, and models were good for all of the characters. The movie was as fun and entertaining as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon on Nick.

1. Oh yeah, someone saw ASM said copy that, and just traded characters out. The end fight OMG seriously, did they even try? And seriously the bad guys plan made no god damn sense, poison the city from YOUR TOWER and nobody is going to suspect you? Did they just wait all those years to? Be kings of NY and become "stupid rich". And above all, make god damn sure the mutagen in the blood can cure the gas effects.

2. I hated it, April is the main character, turtles get sidelined. Seriously why was she the one giving the turtles most of their iconic stuff. Thats what happenes when you change their orgin though.

3. How good do you think their fighting ablities where going to be when they learned it from a f**king book?

4. Painfully, panfully obvious. What was the point, did they actaully care?

5. They let all the crap speak for the turtles' character (Donnie a nerd because taped big glasses, tech all over him, and snorting), and probably because APRIL got more screen time than them, and she killed Shredder?

I found TMNT to be vary ok. It wasn't unwatchable but it wasnt mind blowing either, guardians and age of extinction blew this out of the water completely here's why: Shallow to non existent story, plot holes, nothing about it was compelling at all! I was expecting it to pull me in more but it didnt. Bear in mind I'm trying to look at this from a cinematic point of view as well. The origin part of the story was all over the place in the beginning and when the turtles first appear there all badass and cool and the vibe you get is pretty good but then they bring in the overly used ninja turtle cliches and shoehorn them in so they feel..lame or awkward, i see what they went for but gah..I mean what can you expect from a ninja turtles movie in 2014? It's exactly what you get, nothing more. The few redeeming qualities about this movie was Shredder (very BA) the big rig snow escape scene was very awesome and the turtles designs were cool to. So, yeah, it was kinda intertaning i guess, if you like fart jokes being put in with a gritty atmosphere... I could go on like this for an hour.

Did anyone actually read this?

As a big Turtles fan, I do want to see the film. But I've decided to vote with my dollars and not see it in theaters. For now I'll stick to the absolutely fantastic Nick series.
