Heavy Austrian Cavallry Attack

Finally I got a lot of new lego minifig pieces to form my artillery corps.

Here's a photo of the cavallry in an attack.

Centered a mass of light dragoons.

Austrian Lancers protecting the left.

Hussars at the right

In front a squadron of cuirassier

And some heavy dragoons at the end.

Hmm, my initial scouting reports show that you have around 3 dozen men.

Send in 1st Battalion. Its about time those 150 odd men saw combat. And tell 2nd Battalion to prepare for prisoners. And have another mug of tea made. One cannot fight without one's mug of tea.

I say let them come . let them come. i form my square and at about 50 meters they get a wall of lead from one of my lines. ;-) Nice cavallery Woody64. like your uniforms . do you have any plans of how large you will make the cavallery? or will you just leet it grow and grow?

No at the moment not. I want to have a small size of each army type. Currently I have:

Cavallry

- light dragoons

- heavy dragoons

- cuirassiers

- hussars

- lancers

(seems to be complete)

Infantry

- German/Hungarian infantry

- Jaegers

Artillery

- Mounted Artillery

- Train soldiers

- Supporting staff

But a good questions is: whats the size we use for

- regiments

- companies

- ...

in lego minifigs.

Does somebody know a factor which seems apropriate (maybe used in war gaming or in dioramas)

Did you buy those new pieces from eBay? What else is on your shopping list for the future?

I bought all of them at bricklink. Some of the torsos were not expensive.

The expensive parts were horses and helmets.

Unfortunately shakoos are still not affordable: more then 4$ per piece.

In summary I have around 80 figures yet and the average is around 1,5EUR per minifig (including horses and cannons).

It's great to see the mighty Austrian army relive in Lego.

Those torso's look good on your figs. And you already have a nice amount of them.

It won't grow very much by now. My main interest is to test and to create some torso designs.

(Hurraaa to Mosana for providing a lot of basic designs and a fantastic tutorial ...)

Yes, that's correct. Bonaparte also uses them for his cuirassiers, but he uses the silver coloured type.

For the Austrians the black is the best aproximation ....

Could you perhaps add one more picture. Something with each of the types lined up in full view, perhaps in order by rank with a bit of explanation of who they are? I think that would be most useful to anyone wishing to replicate or fully appreciate your work.

From left to right:

- Heavy Dragoon (using bicorne but should use also the knight helmet)

- Cuirrassier

- Cuirrassier Officer

- Light Dragoon

- Light Dragoon Officer

- Lancer

- Hussar

Very nice! Despite the fact that you need heavy reinforcement if you hope to crush the Brits, which won't happen, you should add some more horesmen and infantry, which wouldn't bode well for the Brits.

What a minute... why are us Brits, the Dutchies and that one Norweigan contingent worrying about the Austrians... so long as Napolean is there we're all allied. We've held out against much worse... :-P We'll have him shipped off to St. Helena again, just you wait 'n see. Besides he needs to be able to effectively transport all those men across the channel without our navy harrassing the dear life out of him and if he tries going for Egypt again my little British African contingent should do the trick :-P

So I take it we can count on you as a commited neutral... :-D

By the way, on the subject of defiantely defending England has anyone seen the preview for that new movie Elizabeth: The Golden Age ?

It looks really good though it's a sequel and we should watch the initial movie Elizabeth but as I know all the history I'll wing it. The American made trailer for the film is amusing... "When the world's two most powerful countries go to war..." England was nothing at the time of the Spanish Armada, it was very much a David and Goliath situation, hence why it's so epic a piece of history. The Spanish were far more powerful at the time... bad bad advertising
