Interview about Eurobricks by Hinckley

Recommended Posts

Wow, that came as a total surprise, and it's very well done!

I'd also give it 5 strawberries, if I understood why exactly strawberries are the fruit of choice here. :pir_laugh2:

Nice interview, very informative about our site policies and about the site itself. Love this classic Hinckley line, too:

TBB: Are you trying to change that reputation?

Mark: Yup yup.

Anyway, a nice interview to advertise the awesomeness of this fantastic community! Five strawberries from me as well.

Eurobricks is 'The Wild One' and Hinckley is Marlon Brando

I understand and respect the rules about leaked images and its great that EB is cultivating a healthy relationship with TLG, but I don't understand why The Brothers Brick mentions EB's history in this context. They themselves posted the leaked Power Miners shots as recently as last September after they were taken down from here as I recall (and a quick search of their blog proves me right) so am I missing something???

Yours - Perplexed.

Nice interview. default_thumbup.gif

Personally, one of the reasons I originally registered here (aside from the friendly community and the wide variety of themes covered) was in fact the "leaker reputation." Despite any changes that have taken place, EB still seems to be one of the more unbiased/non-fanboy sites when it comes to that issue.

Nice interview! It's great they started their Interview feature with EB  ; even if it seems they intended more to underline the past leakers' story than to focus on the other aspects of our community...

Five strawberries out of five from me too (or is it time to change to someother fruit? ).

You can guess what I'll give this. That's right, upping Copmike's 5 out of 5, I'm giving this the Golden Strawberry Teacher Award!

Great interview, I enjoyed reading it and finding out some new things.

Interesting interview, especially with being a relative newcomer to the site. I didn't realise that EB had a "leaker" reputation!

I enjoy the discussion here most of all - I spend a lot more time reading than commenting!

Strange that the article about Eurobricks on TBB talks about the new policy against leaks when there's a (potential) leak right there on the main page.

Hmm...

I can see how you would think that. Here we have a picture posted by a member from another source. There's no "confidential" stamp on it and it doesn't appear to be photographed from an illegal source. If TLG contacted us and asked us to take it down, it would be removed immediately & unfortunately, some time ago, that wasn't always the case. Perhaps this should be run by Steve Witt...

Nice to see you BTW. It's not often we see you stop by and I love your trains.

EDIT: Aha. Thanks for the tip, Tony. They did indeed request it be take down, which it has been.

Hey All,

You all don't know me very well, as I'm not here much, but I'm the guy who interviewed Mark. I appreciate all the comments about the interview. It was fun to talk with him and exchange ideas.

Thank you for this comment. Its a good question. The answer is two-fold. The issue of EB's history was actually the reason for the interview. Mark and I met at BrickCon in Seattle and we talked quite a bit about the forums that we are involved in (I am also an Admin at Classic-Castle). I was excited to hear about the new direction that EB was taking and I wanted other people to hear about it. That is why I asked Mark if I could interview him for TBB. The issue is a big one for many people who aren't members here and I was wanting to help change the poor perception of EB among many people in the AFOL community. I know for a fact that many people had no idea that EB had changed its policies.

Regarding the posting of leaked Power Miners pics on TBB, we had never had a policy regarding leaks. We do now and we will not be posting them in the future. Why were they not taken down? That's a long, boring story. The end result was that the pics stayed up, but we won't be posting anymore. Personally, I'm glad that we aren't. Leaked pics are a very volatile thing.

So, anyway, I hope this answers your questions. If not, please feel free to ask me more questions. I'll do my best to answer them.

Take care,

Josh

Thanks Josh, for your prompt and very informative response. It makes sense to me now! I assumed that something like this was the case, but not having seen an 'official' announcement on TBB about a leaked images policy anywhere I did feel I could ask.

I look forward to more of these interviews on TBB as there was information in Hinckley's interview I was unaware of (such as the simplest explanation of EB's mod system I've ever seen ) and it is interesting how different websites, like different vintages of wine, each have their own unique bouquet and flavour!

You are very welcome. Its really my pleasure. Since we are just a blog, we don't post very many of our policies publicly. A forum requires a lot more...administration. TBB only has a handful of people who can post, so the policies are best discussed and dispersed via email. When it comes right down to it, TBB is merely a news source. Our policies aren't really newsworthy. ;)

As for each website and forum having their own bouquet and flavor, I entirely agree! I often hear debates over which AFOL site or convention is "best". Those discussions always make me laugh, as its so subjective. Its all about what each person prefers. "Best" is impossible to determine.

Take care,

Josh
