Too large signatures annoying

Recommended Posts

Can you guys at least make the sigs be able to fit the small size of Flickr? Even though it technically fits, the vertical height is apparently 'too high'.

Signatures: As a rough rule, you may use up to four pictures each with a maximum pixel height of 200, a file size of 250k and no more than 200 words. If your sig is bigger than your average post, it can confuse someone reading a thread and you may be asked to reduce it, or a staff member may do it for you. Some exceptions may be made on a case by case basis, but please try to limit the space you use. Font size should be kept to a minimum: ideally no bigger than size 3.

The rules were changed based on member posts. You'll need to pick "Thumbnail". (100x75)

Ok, but in that case can we please have more than 5 pics? Because my sig-fig smiley counts as an image I can't put a pic of my new MOC without sacrificing a pic of my contest entries.

I make do with 4 so I'm sure you can! Besides, it's easy to trick; join two together...

Actually I've never noticed what size my sig was before, I shall check it now to make sure it's within guidelines.

'Course, nothing can be as big as the sigs that are allowed on BZP or TFW2005, like 500x800 pixels or something like that.

Edit; 260x180 Looks like I'm good.

Lol, but Incospicous' sig has 9 pics.

Well, I've specifically asked and Siegfried said it was okay, so it looks like one of the "case-by-case" examples. It doesn't take up too much vertical space, which could be part of the reason why it's okay.

It's OK considering what you are linking to. :sweet:

He has also been around longer. Consider it a reward for long term members. It comes down to numbers; we can allow the higher ranks to push the rules as there are less of them. Also the long term members for the most part are more aware of the whys of the rules so we can allow them to use their own judgment more often than not.

It's OK. I don't have time to yes or no each sig though...

Sort of. As I said we don't enforce rules on the higher ranks... yet.

On a positive note, I have been very pleased with the lack of complaints over these changes. Thanks everyone!

Except for :coughcoughme:  . But whatever, once the Epic Scenes contest is over, I can get rid of those...

My only complaint is that because the sig-fig smiley is considered an "img," even though it is very small and takes up little space :cry_sad: .

Also, how do you make deeplinked pics links to pages?

Yeah that's annoying thing I agree, but...

1. The board supports a number and size rule, not an average or total size. If it did we might have allowed one or two to not count.

2. A few people have been putting loads of images in their sigs and this can be as big a problem in terms of page loading as big images.

Also, how do you make deeplinked pics links to pages?

If you mean like my sig, here's how I did it...

... if not give me an example!

If you select the tagged image and then add a URL it's automatic.

I've noticed that a lot of people in the Pirates forum have humongous signatures. It is really distracting, because some are funky colours.

I think it would be better if there is a way for the board to automatically remove signatures beyond the maximum size limit. I remember I committed a similar mistake in one online forum and they automatically removed my over-sized sig, so I had to comply and resize it to the proper dimesions.

Isn't a youtube video embedded as a signature a little ridiculous?

Yes, it was.

I'll look around.

New sigs should be limited. Existing ones are not checked though. Any big ones that are left in a few months will probably be manually fixed.

Thanks for the code, Siegfried. It really helped out my signature.

I recntly wanted to ad a few links to my signature, but couldn't. It won't alow more than 5 links. So I didn't change it after all.

I didn't read this whole topic yet, but I presume it's a new rule. I'm a litle disapointed that there need to be rules about this. Not that I don't understand them, but I would have hoped people know when there signatures are to big, have to mush links etc...

I always thought my signature wasn't to big, even if it contains lots of info, I try to make it look good, but not to distracting, and most of all, I often use my signature miself to find my old topics back, now I can't any more...

Is there something that can be done about this, or do I need to find an other solution to somehow catalog my customs?

If I may suggest, one solution would be to use the About Me page in your profile. It can be structured in the same way as your signature, it's one click away from wherever you are on the forum, and it doesn't have any pic/link/size limits. Well there probably are limits, but it's certainly not as restrictive as signatures.

I was wondering why I had so many profile hits... Guess I was sent to the principal's office... sorry... my sig must have been within the rules at one time... though I honestly haven't thought about it much. though I understand being within the rules and being responsible are two different things...

I take it this is a much more responsible signature.

It's like coming back from the principal's office, and everyone's staring at you while you quickly and quietly walk back to your desk in the back of the class room

That's actually smart, Fugazi. I agree. And I also agree large signatures would be annoying, but I haven't seen any.

So out of curiosity, is my signature too large and/or annoying? I'll change it if there's a forum consensus that it is

That said, I like pictures and links in signatures. If a builder links to a great MOC of his or hers, I love it because it's just more inspiration for me.
