Clone OPatra Posted June 2, 2009 This is interesting news, and like many others I hope that "the new way to build" is not something awful like Galidor was. To me, this also signals an end to any more Nickelodean sets. I base this opinion on the situation with LEGO, Marvel, and DC. LEGO had a Marvel license, but it ended and so LEGO eventually shifted to DC to make Batman sets. The only point that could say otherwise is that The Clone Wars is a Cartoon Network show, which had LEGO sets during the same time that there were new Spongebob sets. However, I don't know if a CN license is required to make CW sets, or if CW sets just fall under the Star Wars license. I hope LEGO is not overdoing itself with too many licensed themes at once. I feel like three is a good number, but 2010 will have at least four or maybe five (SW, Indy, Disney, CN, more Nick?, WB - since HP6 is currently rated PG?). I know what I can safely ask, even if it's only a simple yes or no answer. Were you involved in the design on this one, and if so, once they are officially out in the open, can you show us some development drawings or discuss the process, etc? Instead of introducing more and more licensed themes TLG should better bring back its old and reinforced themes (such as Western, Adventures or Aqua Mission) or release complete new not licensed themes (such as Romans, Egypts or new knights fractions)! the enigma that is badger Posted June 2, 2009 I've seen a few minutes of the show when flipping through the channels (until I see the [adult swim] bump, I tend to avoid CN), and it's definitely right up the alley for the demographic TLC aims for: relatively nonviolent action, aliens, a youthful protagonist. Let's just say that Lego Ben 10 is something else, way different than what you all are suspecting about here. That simultaneously intrigues and frightens me. On one hand, LEGO has been doing some amazing things with new types of products lately (the larger trolls, Power Miner rock monsters, Castle dragons, City cows, etc.), but on the other, the specter of Galidor looms large over any non-System line. Of course, I also thought Bionicle was vaguely ridiculous when that first started, and that's turned into a incredible success for TLC. Faramir Posted June 2, 2009 Sorry, but I'm really not impressed. I agree with whoever said before me that Lego needs to focus on their non-licensed lines more (Forgot to quote, oops.) I may not have grown out of Lego, but I sure have grown out of Cartoon Network and Disney stuff. All these other licenses mean less space for other themes. The only bright side i can see to this right now is the fact that if I'm not buying as many themes, I have more money for the ones I do buy. user Posted June 2, 2009 This will be a great theme for me I loved that show when it was on cartoon network and there where new episodes every so often but I am not to interested in alien force it seems less original. Erdbeereis Posted June 2, 2009 While I know it might make TLG money to do licensed sets, I really really wish they would just stick to maybe 1 or 2 (SW and Indy) and then focus more on their own fantastic lines like Castle, Pirates and Space, and bring along a few other new original themes. For example, not everyone loves Power Miners but they are solid sets for the most part and above all, it's an original LEGO idea. Bring us some new or updated versions of old themes. Compared to Star Wars the Clone Wars, I am not sure how TLC can top that off in Lego merchandise if they can. (Yeah right) But in the quote when TLC said they would put a twist on it, I am not quite sure how they are going to do that. I am just interested to see how TLC will make Ben 10 into Lego and how it will come out, since it is more cartoonish than Star Wars the Clone Wars. I have seen the show- unfortunately my younger brother is obsessed with it- and cannot think of how TLC even BEGAN to devise this vile plan! The only things I could remotely think of on the bright side are obviously the new alien parts, possible to add on to SP III, and probably some pretty cool vehicles. I am pretty sure, though, that TLC won't make the same mistake as Galidor when they talk about 'a new twist on the lego system.' jonwil Posted June 2, 2009 Well there are 3 ways I can see them going: Minifigs (ala Space Police 3) which would be GOOD Action Figure type things (ala Galidor) which would be garbage Larger size figs (e.g. 4juniors size or something) which may or may not be ok. Importantly they need to produce more than just figures of aliens and stuff and need to produce vehicles and buildings and stuff (I haven't watched enough of the show to know what else could be made beyond that car) Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Looking at the pictures and thinking about these comments and who made them I can only see this going in a quasi-bionicle/technic/system of 5-12 inch figures with soft plastics and high range of movement. They won't be galidor as that was a mistake. It won't even be like the maxi-knights from a few years ago as those did't do all that well. I can't see these as system based sets as the bionicle system sets didn't work out so well, and I don't think they will be so similar to standard bionicle. Instead I can picture them as a more smoothed out variety of posable construction figures like bionicle, something like studless technic could be compared with the older studded version. "studless bionicle" if you will. Large smooth premolded parts with limited connectivity but high posability and interchangability. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Klaus-Dieter Yes, I know, it is tough, with the economy the way it is. Of course they want to license more TV shows, movies, etc., to try and kill their rival, Mega Bloks. I think that LEGO should reconsider their own themes, and not go on a licensing spree. :thumbup: Let's see how this plays out. Everyone has a right to an opinion, and you make a pretty forceful one. LEGO really has sold its soul to licensing. It's commercialism at its worst. Although I do agree with everyone else that most of the pieces will be quite useful for us JFOLs, TFOLs, and AFOLs. Lord Admiral Posted June 3, 2009 WTH, I though TLG was de-emphasizing licensing. Ben 10 probably isn't and shouldn't be at the top of their list of licenses to pick up. Disney is a strategic decision, with Toy Story 3 likely being a way for both sides to get what they want (Disney/Pixar to get Lego blocks into their movie, and vice versa, TLG to create Toy Story-based sets), but what does Ben 10 offer? As for Galidor, well, let's just say, Allegra was supposed to be 14, but the girl playing her was 19. Apparently, Hollywood types haven't realized that casting overaged teenagers as underaged teenagers just doesn't work. Granted, it's probably easier to cast, but easy and worthwhile are incompatible.
