Galnor's Mobile Still

Galnor Brighthelm was known around the mine as a heavy drinker... and if Dwarves start saying that of someone it truly means something! :-P To him though it was more than just the drinking; he loved to make his own as well, perhaps more so. His favourite drink was Bourbon, and he never found enough time to make enough of it. His stocks were running low one day and he had planned to make a new batch on the coming weekend when disaster stuck; the King had decided that the weekend was a good time to remind the goblins and trolls who was boss around the mountain. Galnor was furious... but as the saying goes "necessity is the mother of invention"; Instantly he decided that he needed to make his distilling more portable and efficient! First of all he thought that he would save some time by moving his fermenter and his distiller on a mobile platform so he could take it with him during those constant campaigns. This was harder than he thought as he soon found that wheels became bogged too easily. Thus he added a flexible portable road around the wheels and he found they worked much better. To save further time he added a digger, shredder and collector unit to the front of his device so he could find vegetation to ferment while he pushed it around. While this was a good idea, it all became too hard to push for even a dwarf. At this point his greatest idea happened; why not try to use the heat from his alcohol powered still to move the platform? This was harder than he thought, but eventually he designed a turbine that fit inside... this went on and on but by Friday evening, after three sleepless nights, he was ready for a test run! He jumped in and to his surprise it worked. He realised straight away a flaw in his design; he couldn't see above the fermenter... but he took it out for a spin anyway! All night he drove around, mulching, fermenting and distilling as he went. and by 6am he had a full barrel of double distilled alcohol. Eagerly he climbed onto the back and gave it a quick try... and it was good! The flavour was a bit strange, but it sure was interesting!

DSC02246es.jpg

He sealed up the barrel, and grabbed his hammer as he knew it was time for war. He was tired, but Dwarves are long used to that as they frequently march for days when on campaign. By lunch they arrived at the camp, and instantly charged into battle... but there was nothing left to fight! The entire goblin camp was flattened... with the only sign of the culprit being a track though the forest leading back to..

"The mine!" yelled the King, "Whatever did this is heading back to the mine!" They reformed their ranks and charged back home, arriving in half the time it took the first time... but the mine was untouched... and the tracks ended at...

"Oh." said Galnor a bit sheepishly "No wonder it tasted a bit odd. Hmmm....I wonder what dragons taste like..."

DSC02248es.jpg

Galnor was promoted to Chief Designer of the mine that day, and many mugs of Galnor's alcohol were raised that evening to his victory... although many a dwarf was displeased that they missed a good fight. Ever since that day, Galnor's Mobile Still has been used whenever the dwarves go to war, but they are sure to have a spotter on the barrel platform to make sure Galnor doesn't mulch the wrong army. :-P Now the dwarves can say that they truly know the taste of victory.... X-D

DSC02251es.jpg

As a footnote to this story, the collector was found to be useful as a weapon of last resort when it was accidently overloaded causing it to spew high pressure fermenting vegetation (and goblins) over the enemy... but that's another story. ;-)

DSC02250es.jpg

Boring note by the creator: I've been wanting to make something dwarvish, something steam punk and something with tracks.... so I decided to save time and do it all at once! :-P I hope you like it.

Very cool MOC and story Sinner. A lot of thought and creativity went into making that Dwarf Tank, great job!

To a Dwarf being able to consume vast quantities of Ale is almost a virtue, X-D :-D and so is putting a lot of notches in their battle axes. >:-)

Wow! X-O X-O X-O You've put a lot of thought into that! Troll Bourbon, nice. :-D :-D Once again the engineer smarty has made something smart. :-P I have tried to build a tank several times and I always give up. I'm a quitter. :'-( But of course, you just do it on a whim.

"Meh, I'm Sinner I was bored so I whipped up a brilliant steampunk tank. It actually grinds up trolls and distills them. It's also a piggy bank and a bottle opener. The 'distillery tank' doubles as a salt shaker...now I'm bored again, so I'll just go out to my particle accelerator and try to find the God particle..." :-P Smarty jerk.

Anyway, I love the story! I wish it had more visuals. :'-( Don't you have the desire to write comics too, let alone a whole troll village and mountain mine? My favorite part is the "flexible portable road." It's hilarious and true. Of course the entire power source has been justified, but where are the thrusters? 8-| I also really like how you used the technic pin connector for the steam valve and the barrel for the intake. Excellent job, I can't tell you how much I like it. It's just really really cool and fun! *sweet* *y* *y*

Troll Bourbon On!

Wow! This thing is crazy! I love it! A mobile steampunk dwarf still, who would of thought? But therein lies the genius ;-) I'll comment further when I read into it further, but for now I'll say, what a terrific design! The looser treads look great, and the overall design is lovely and almost faultless. Love the front too!

I'll read the backstory and comment further as said before, but for now, I'm tired, and this lovely moc is a great way to close the night :'-)

I just found another flaw in the design: WHERE IS THE BATHROOM ON THIS THING? :-D If this is a dwarf (with a small bladder) who drives around in his tank drinking the booze it produces all the time, he's gonna have certain "duties" afterwards, isn't he? X-D

Else, it's a simple but interesting moc, though. Just like necessity is the mother of invention, boredom is the mother of creativity, I guess. ;-) Good job! *y*

What a cool creation!

The combination of Dwarves and Steampunk works marvellously well.

I admit I didn't read all that text. Why did you write so much? :-P

Can you summarize it for me *sweet* X-D

Thanks everyone for your comments. I am quite happy with this and am considering making something similar for the goblins! :-P

Don't you have the desire to write comics too, let alone a whole troll village and mountain mine?
Yes, but I'd rather spend the time building. My "The Abyss" story took the better part of an afternoon... :-$
It looks pretty solid, and I love anything with treads. X-D
It is! :-D It's been dropped a few times as I let my kids play with it and it survives. Most of my MOCs are strong actually; Staunch fell off it's shelf last week due to wind and I had it fixed in a few minutes.
Now there's a really imposing mining machine! Bat Tank + Classic Castle Dwarves + Steam Punk.
Actually the treads are from a Tie Crawler I picked up on sale. The Bat Tank was absurdly priced for Australians so I gave it a miss.
Very nice! An excellent blend between steampunk and castle....In your story, you mention "he dwavres", is that the same as He-Man? :-P ;-) X-D
Thanks. I'm horrid at proof reading.
I just found another flaw in the design: WHERE IS THE BATHROOM ON THIS THING? :-D
It's a tank. Tanks don't have bathrooms. *wacko* It does remind me of a story though.

A B-1 Bomber was being escorted by a F-15 and the bomber pilot was becoming annoyed with the fighter jock going on and on over the radio about how much better his bird is. So the bomber pilot says; "I know one thing that I can do in this plane that you can't that I bet you wish you could. The jock replies "Yeah right, what?" and the bomber pilot says "Gimmie five" in return. A few minutes past and the bomber pilot says "I'm back. I just did a crap."

Just like necessity is the mother of invention, boredom is the mother of creativity, I guess. ;-)
Boredom? I'm never bored. Where did you get boredom from?
:'-) Please let me try:

Hey that's pretty good! :-D Even so, I'll still give Boney a Readers Digest version.

Dwarf wants to make his alcohol faster so he makes a machine to automate it, not realising that he has invented the tank. At the same time he finds that goblins taste OK when distilled.

Idk, it just seemed to be a logic/funny thing to build into a moc like this! X-D But I guess you're right - the dwarf probably relieves himself wherever he goes, like they did back then... or maybe on the bones of his stilled enemies! >:-)

Boredom? I'm never bored. Where did you get boredom from?

:-$ Er... From Hinckley's post! X-D

Okay, I've read right through now. That a very interesting story Sinner, I was laughing in some places, cringing in others, and totally weirded out in some, so overall I'd say it was a very enjoyable story! *y*

Great to see good backstories to mocs like this, it also makes the moc itself a lot richer for having a past, great work!

All I Have To Say Is...

OMFG!!..

How much do you want for that??

It could come in VERY handy for my Castle MOC's that I'm making..

I need some siege weapons for my humans because my trolls have 2 ogres, a catapult, and a ship. All my humans have is an army of 9 men.. :'-(

If Lego made this into an official set (a man can dream, right? :cry_happy: ), with the orcs included (to hell with the name "troll"), I bet it would cost about $35 (give or take :hmpf_bad: ). I would by ten, no seriously  . By the way do you plan to post instructions? Please?

Very nice, reminds me of a certain scene in Evil Aliens (2006) that featured a combine harvester and many, many aliens. Oh, and the song ''I got a brand new combine harvester (I'll give you the key)''

You can find it on Youtube.

Once again very nice, I like all the steampunky details.
