My escort frigate (yes probably not an accurate description)

This is my ship. I sorta called it a frigate but to be honest thats probably not entirely accurate.

Shes designed to be the escort for my second ship. Which due to excessive and repeated rebuilds is still lying next to her sister ship with half a structure and a lovely captains quarters and thats about it....

But back to the ship in question:

Based on a BSB she has had her armament somewhat upgraded and her armour and her structure modified too....

key features include...

> a massive increase in armament from 4 cannons to 17 cannons. 2 of the cannons are chaser cannons and the rest form a fairly formidable broadside.

> sloping amour to both increase protection and to hopefully deflect cannon fire!

> Increase in crew so she now carries a select crew of marines, armed with semi auto rifles (which they seem to have pillaged somewhere along the line as a replacement for their original flintlock rifles)

> twin deck, admittedly the lower decks pretty cramped but what they hey the increase in firepower is worth a lil sacrifice in comfort for the crew!!

Apologies for the poor quality pictures and i know there aren't many but i'll get my proper camera sorted out soon to take more pictures.

The crew is pretty select and standard although at the moment on the ship they do have a somewhat suspect looking courier on deck seemingly making some kind of deal with the Admiral. Whatevers in the case warrants a body guard so only time will tell what secrets and possible future upgrades are contained within the case.....

Here is the Escort Frigate Brickshelf Gallery.

Happy to see you have posted one of your ships Lord Admiral!

It's always good to see a rebuilded BSB, especially when it is well done.

You added lots of firepower to the ship. I'm especially fond of the chasers.

And you made use of Tumblehome *y*

I have resized the picture to 800x600 because I was a bit too big to post here.

We have a wonderful guide (written by Mr. Phes) for resizing images (using a freeware tool): The Batch Image Resize Tutorial.

Might be handy for future posts when you get that new camera ;-) .

Welcome Admiral!

You are one of several to offer a rebuilt Black Seas Barracuda!

I like this one, it has many good additions! Two decks is a good start and I like the sloped tumblehome effect, something my ship largest ship didn't accomplish. :'-(

Would you like suggestions on how to improve your MOCs or are you merely sharing them with us?

If you would like some input, don't be afraid! we area a helpful bunch here!

Keep MOCing

I was about to point this out too!

Admiral Wig's version of Black Seas Barracuda looks very sturdy and its something you'd feel more confident taking into battle - a lot more so than the original version.

Now Mr Bonaparte has pointed out the Batch Image Resize Tutorial you'll never need to feel lazy anymore! X-D

What kind of suggestions would you like? Your ship looks fairly complete to me. Do you want to improve on it?

Ah my good Administrator, are any MOCs ever truly done?

One thing I might suggest that would help the look would be to shift all the gun ports on the bottom over one stud so there are three studs without a port at the bow and the stern. This would give some balance to the bottom of the ship and would also make it so that none of the ports on the top deck are DIRECTLY over the guns on the bottom deck. They would instead overlap by one stud on two ports which I think would give a little better balance to the MOC.

A second thing, on the stern (rear section) on the quarter deck (where the steering wheel is) you have built up quite a wall to attach the smaller ratlines (brown ropes) and you also have a cannon sticking out of there. The wall is a little too tall for my tastes! I realize that it is an easy way to attach the ratlines, but there might be a better solution. My suggestion would to lower the wall and 'extend' the ratlines. Here are two examples of ways to extend the shorter ratlines. They are not ideal, but they may be better than the 'tall wall' approach! Click the thumbs to see the pictures.

34.jpg_thumb.jpg arbiter24.jpg_thumb.jpg

these are both very minor aesthetic things, but I think it would give a nice boost to the MOC! Good work, and I am excited to see the ship this guy is escorting!!

Yeah, I was fairly pleased with the way my Imperial Sentry box turned out after about half a dozen revisions. Too bad you made the final revision though, bad in the sense that I can't take the credit for it X-D

But I get what you're saying. Someone once said "Movies are never completed... They're abandoned..."

(And that was George Lucas when he re-released Star Wars in 1997 for anyone who cares). The point is, that statement can apply to anything that invovles creativity, whether it be a movie, a MOC or the skin for Pirate forum - I'm still not happy with it!

Ah yes fair points on the overly tall wall, i admit to again being lazy there when creating that part of the ship. I'm not entirely happy with that tbh. I like the unique location of the cannon enabling inventive firing by said cannon but its fixed and behind that overly tall wall. Hmm

N i'm always open to suggestions. As has been mentioned things can be pretty much always improved on as new things come out and new techniques become available. This ship originally was incredibly square but now it has all the nice slopes in it its turning out pretty nice.

The ship that is going to be escorted is quite special you see it will be carrying my gold and silver. Oh so elaborate and i shall have to get down to making at least half the structure complete so you can get an idea of what i'm trying to do. Its based on exactly the same basic hulls (from another BSB).

watch this space!

I could give you suggestions - but it depends how much you want this MOC to stay looking like the Black Seas Barracuda as to the kind of suggestions I provide.

If you go to this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sloop-of-war you will see that your ship is a brig sloop of war.

If you look closely at the top ZCerberus uses an ingenious way to raise the top of his mast. I have used it on my own sloop of war the HMS Expedition I have a progress thread for here at EB.

Yes, well I have some close ups of that same construction that I took for bonaparte's ship. But that is only if the Admiral wants to extend the masts, I, of course, was speaking of extending the ratlines only!

Fair enough!

What of my suggestion to shift the gun ports on the bottom over one stud?

Wow-wie!

Check out all these BSB-mocs in the last month!

The BSB is so inspirational, someone should make a review on it :)

I definitely won't be able to; both of my BSB's are being used in my DDW X-D .

Hey admiral, do you have any more pics of this vessel to get a better idea what it looks like?

I've just taken more pictures and with my proper camera and will upload them on to brickshelf tomorrow (going out now) but if you want any specific angles or pictures feel free to ask and i'll take a few more.

I will consider shifting the guns but it will be a while probably coz its a pretty major effort for a relatively minor change. Plus i wana get more on her sister ship done.

I'm really not sure on my second ships structure at the moment, the cargo requirement is the main thing she was originally built around and then i added in a nice spacious gun deck below the cargo deck. Now its just a case of getting the gun deck right and sorting out my tumblehome effect stuff. But i have the cabin nailed. Although it does have a somewhat eclectic crew. The main cabin is currently inhabited by a civil war general.... and also has a comunications centre with computer systems and GPS to enable smooth co-ordination between her and the escort ship. lol ahem.

I'll hopefully post more pics and a new topic with the work in progress tomorrow.

Oh and i'm not fussed about keeping it close to the original BSB, that was a nice ship that i love muchly but i just want my ships to be finished and cool. :)

That would be great! We need a new Pictorial Review for the month of April or May but since I don't have a build Black Seas Barracuda that counts me out.

I think I may do a small set for April and we can save a bigger one for when we get our Newsletter up and running.

What's the criteria needed for a review? My bro has a BSB sitting at his house and thinks it's a good idea to do a review.

That's a nice ship you have there Admiral Wig! I think it would look even better if you make it a bit longer.

Well, actually, I was planning to do a review of my Skull's eye Schooner soon...

Some information has been sent to you via PM.

By the way... Did Admiral wig decide what kind of ship this is yet?

Yer brig sloop of war seems to be the way.

N as to making it longer i quite like its length now and i think adding more length would mean more masts which i dont feel like tackling just yet, plus the only source of hull sections i have is the other BSB i have which is being built into the sister ship for this one.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions though.

Going into my BS account a came upon a newly moderated folder with this ship in it with other views than the one on the first post

Here's the BS link to the Brig Sloop of War :)

Here're some thumbnail links:

dscn0687.jpg_thumb.jpg * dscn0688.jpg_thumb.jpg * dsc00174.jpg_thumb.jpg

It's a nice little sloop. I'd probably have the cannons on the bottom deck spaced at least 4 studs apart (although 3 studs apart is ok)

And smaller cannons on the top decks.

I wish I had a ship like that! *wub*

I don't have many piece's, so my Interceptor is so far brick-built...

Can you show us a picture of them side too side?
