LDD MOC - Pure 8x8 TrialTruck

Hi there,

i´ve made my first 8x8 TrialTruck with LDD.

1787 parts.

Saddly i don´t have the parts to build it. Maybe anyone of you want´s to try it in RL :wink:

Looks good, but the suspnsion angle is waaaay too steep.

Do you think ? I've found many pic at IT with an angle simliar to mine. I'll try try it and change if its really too steep.

I can build that, I like your axle set up. I do agree though, the wheels have way to much positive camber. If you can just move the shock mounting points inward some and it should set the wheels better. I,d like to see the directions to this, very interesting. I ,d have to build it in

yellow though, not orange.

It looks heavy, and 1 shock absorber per wheel may not be enough to support this weight properly. I think the sideways stability may not be good, too - the truck is tall, the heavy battery boxes are high in the chassis, and with portal axles at this angle you make it even taller, but not wider. One more reason not to build Trial Trucks with LDD only - LDD can't test it. Right now you put a lot of work into designing a truck that is completely untested. I hope it works well when built, but I think LDD is better suited for designing more static stuff, like castles.

It looks good, I would be interested in building it, we have a lug 4x2 offroad challenge coming up it might be worth building it for. I think the suspension under load would settle enough to lower the camber angle anyway, it would still have plenty of droop travel, still it wouldnt be hard to fine tune the suspension, I have a selection of springs/shocks to test it with.

one shock absorber should be enough, because a soft suspension works much better than a hard one. but i think your center of gravity is to high in proportion to the actual trackwith. it will easily roll over the side. and are you sure that your steering system will work?

Hi all,

One more reason not to build Trial Trucks with LDD only - LDD can't test it.

I´ll use two virtual designers. With LDD I make the Model (design) and with SR3D-Bulder (with Animation Console) I´ll test the functions.

I think it´s first possible to see if the suspension fits or not if the model is build in RL. But it wouldn´t be to difficult to change it.

Your right with the center of gravity. Maybe one batterypack should be enough for these 3 motors, but atm i didn´t find another place for it deeper in the chasis.

Meanwhile this was the fifth version i´ve build virtual.

Another Concept with lockable differential and 2 gear speedbox

testing with the animation consol works only to look if anything is able to collide with moving parts. but driving around on uneven surfaces are something completely different. in your case a swingarm suspension like tatra works under load completely different than with the simulation of a program.

a tatra suspension looks really simple, but i think it is very hard to make it good working without sideway rollovers

can you please share the ldd file with us?

This battery position looks good. Maybe i need to strech a little between the two motors to get the battery between there.

I think i´ll re-design the truck a little bit these days.

Trying to get the center of gravity a little bit more to the bottom (maybe only using one batterypack) and changing the angle of the wheels.

For those who i´ve send the LDD-File an instruction; please wait a little bit for "update" :classic:

Ok, endrun... :wink:

The Chassis is ready. The cab should also fit in size and length, but need to positioned (not so easy in LDD)and some little corrections.

Parts will be between 1800-1850 if finished.

Hope you´re also satisfied with the new setup for gravity center and wheel angle.

Ok, time to compare:

1799 Parts

Both trucks had the nearly same size cabin

The trackwith is two studs more at the yellow one and the wheel angle is not so steep

Think the best position for the Battery pack. Easy pull out from the underside.

This version only uses one battery pack and only one IR receiver.

I guess the truck is now more useful designed for trail, but i like the style also from the first version.

Big thanks to efferman for his suggestion with the battery pack and also thanks to all other and their ideas.
