2013 City Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Recommended Posts

But could we be getting said police minifig in the chase or museum set that's the question ?

IMO more likely in that one other set that's missing from the 14 (we got information on the other 13, but not on one. . .).

Here is some news for you the police officer is called Chase McCain this is the exclusive minifigure you can obtain by pre-ordering the new LEGO City Undercover game according to http://kotaku.com

However in the UK no sites have the exclusive listed and here is a better image of Chase McCain

Now to the 2013 fire sets:

All in all I have to say that this new Fire theme is really cool since there are even things the firefighters have to douse or rescue!

The only big thing which disturbs me is that we get three "ladder trucks" (which is completely overdone), but no single equipment car! Plus it would be nice to see even a car accident where firemen help with hydraulic cutter - or a fire crane with a tree which has to be removed from the street.

Thanks for a run down of the fire theme Klaus-Dieter! I agree with you regards having 3 Ladder trucks if they are on the basis of 7239 and the ladder from Station 7208. It would have been good to get a Specialist rescue truck/Emergency Tender/rescue Squad truck as a seperate that could go out on these special service calls/car crashes.

Big Fire Station

I see lego are continuing the long established Ladder truck small car combo. Seeing as there is a seperate chiefs car I personnaly for a while have hoped that TLG would go for a Ladder and Pumper combo that would suit not just American and Euro market but it reflects Fire service world wide.IMO

Burning Hut

Good to see something for the firefighters to put out.

"Ladder Truck"

About time TLG replaced 7239. An ugly truck IMO[/i]

Fire Motorcycle

This set includes a red fire motorcycle, a green brick-built burning dustbin and a fireman.

Many UK fire services are looking to bring in smaller firefighting vehicles to save tying up pumps at small incidents.

Can't wait to see photo's of this theme

*Sigh* I still hold hope for a series of zoo sets.

Totally agree a Zoo theme is needed! For me it will also work for the Circus scene I am building!

Yeah, I would really like more animals! (Maybe, since we got a CMF zookeeper in S5. . .)

I'm actually a bit disappointed with the new sets save for the Great Vehicles. We could use a Bakery, store, warehouse with shipping logistics, or just something different. Friends is a success and they have a bakery (or ice cream parlor, I'm not too sure). SWAT isn't too bad but it seems like an excuse to continue repeating the Police line.

Yes, sadly Police and Fire yet again. I thought last year's Forest sets would cover the themes for a few years but disappointing to hear that City brings up the same old stuff yet again. I didn't like police and fire sets when I was a kid and nothing much has changed.

I still live in hope that my safari truck no.6672 from 1990 will one day get to explore the African Savannah. The documentary crew are pretty fed up with trying to make new films starring the monkey and want to glimpse other animals like a Lego rhinoceros before they die out. Mind you, I suppose for a species to become extinct it would have to have been made in the first place!

Come on Lego, please stop reproducing the same old rubbish and give the real Lego fans some variety. Hippos, giraffes, zebras... and bring back the Ostrich in a non-licensed set! I thought the golden days were back when the Farm subtheme was released but it has been poor since then, even the Harbour sets were poor.

Thumbs down for City 2013

Oh, I love 6672 - I still have mine! (And my two year old found it recently and clearly loves it himself!)

Not as disappointed in the City range for 2013 as most say. It is terribly dull to have even more cops/robbers stuff, true. And like many I think a lot of the supposed 'gender imbalance' in LEGO could be corrected with some more adventurous City themes (or the return of Legoland/Town sets, etc).

But I'm also fascinated that there seems to be some connection to the content of the Wii U LEGO City Undercover game, and am glad that sets like the jewel heist have some inventive/uniqueness to them. My issue with the 2012 wave's 'story' of 'the robbers have fled to the hills' in order to create a connection with the mining sets was that it was tenuous and felt a bit cynical.

I'm only interested in those three. :sceptic: That's pretty good considering how I wasn't interested in anything this year though.

At the very least, it sounds better than previous Police/Fire rehashes, but I'm still not happy about it. :hmpf_bad:

Huh, I hoped TLG would give Police and Fire a break for at least one year...

At least the sets seem to be getting better and more original, with a burning house and a museum crime scene. Though I was pretty disappointed with how the forest police/fire sets turned out, so I'll still wait and see.

I wonder whether TLG's consumer research validates yearly updates of Police/Fire, or whether the kids (and their parents) simply buy what's on offer and would actually prefer more civilian sets. I know I as a kid preferred civilian sets (like one of my all-time favorites, Pizza To Go) over Police/Fire. I hope the Friends animals at least won't be too cutesy, so they could be used in the City theme...

"60006 Police quad with Police guy, Thief + new red thing to put stolen things in it." - Great another police quad bike, I'll buy it anyway...but why not another police motorcycle instead....better for high speed chases.....oh, wait it's chasing a wheel barrow !

"60017 Orange load vehicle with dark red car on top of it, driver of loader and female driver of red car." - Now this is AWESOME news....better than a simple tow truck, these flat beds are more common ! :excited:

"60010 Firehelicopter with burning oil installation" - this sounds interesting, when I first read this instantly thought of an old John Wayne film about oil rig fire fighters.

Though we can see only three great vehicles, I have been told four....I could have been spun a tall tale ! :doh1:

It's because love it or hate it, City is still ground zero for Lego's classic toys for boys, which at heart means "what do you want to be when you grow up?" The "fun" answers still remain the jobs that have a certain element of adventure. Police, Fire Fighters, getting to drive a really really big truck! Quite frankly it's kind of appalling how few 7 year olds state that they want to spend most of heir lives in a small 2 meter cube bathed in the rays of fluorescent lighting while listening to disturbingly innofensive music and trying to breath through microwave popcorn fumes. I think we need to better educate the young regarding such career paths.

We really do need a Lego "office cubicle" set. Possibly as an second wave of the Monster Fighters line?

Well, when I was a young boy a few centuries back  I wanted to be a firefighter....but a fear of heights put an end to that dream !

One thing I will say about this list is that just about every set has a story to tell.....either a fire to put out or someone to arrest. Even at least one great vehicle set....the flat bed truck has a broken down car on it, so there is a story to tell too. :classic:

As quoted from Brickset, a German toy website is listing out 2013 LEGO products, with the English translation below with price. For City, it is pretty much the same as yours, except 60008/60009, and the 3 Great Vehicles sets are not there.

City:

• 60000 Fire Motorcycle $6

• 60001 City Fire Department (with police cars?) $10

• 60002 Fire truck $20

• 60003 Firefighters $30

• 60004 Fire Headquarters? $80

• 60005 Fire Boat $30

• 60006 Police Quad $6

• 60007 Police Chase $30

• 60009 Museum Robbery $60

• 60010 Fire Helicopter $35

A Zoo or Circus theme would be amazing! They have a few exotic animal moulds now (ostrichs, elephants) to fill a small zoo.

I'm surprised enough we got Farm sets a couple of years back. Really regret not buying any of those now, mainly because I wasn't that into Lego at the time.

I really am disappointed with the selection for next year. I get that Fire and Police are popular, but too much is too much. It's boring and redundant, even if the sets themselves are well-put together.

Oh, and in addition to Zoo sets, I wouldn't mind seeing a stab at some School sets. A school bus, a classroom, etc.

Haha! Yes, the office can be more frightening than any zombie attack at times!

I don't think fire and police jobs should be the only alternative options to a desk-based career though but sadly these are the two themes that seem to be made too often by Lego in my opinion. When I was a kid I didn't want to be a policeman or fireman. I actually wanted to become a farmer! There are lots of other alternatives too like coastguard, pilot, medical, veterinary...

It would be nice to have more civilian houses so children can build a community. There always used to be lots of houses. There are plenty of other themes to choose from if action is the only incentive for a set. Some more civilian vehicles and transport would be great.

As a kid my favourite theme was always the 'leisure' theme like the beach and canyon river retreat of the mid-90s. Personally I'd like a proper winter sports subtheme (in addition to the annual Winter Village set). A working ski lift, ice skating rink (with Zamboni and more ice skates), a bobsleigh team...

In the 90s, the Lego motto was 'Just Imagine'. Sadly to me it seems that nowadays the choice of City sets show a lack of imagination from The Lego Group.

I also would love more civilian buildings from city. I love the creator series, I just wish TLG would mix those two themes together or just create more buildings. I am happy there will be a burning house, but I'm guessing it won't be very detailed.

@ Lightning Tiger: Wheelbarrow! that was the word I was looking for.

@ Alywin: The number about the museum theft could be different

The three big vehicles looked were on a different page,so they are probably later in the year.

60018 Concrete mixer is yellow and has also red wheelbarrow

I'm glad it seems like we might be getting a fairly inexpemsive wheelbarrow, but other than that I can't say I like any of these too much. But who knows, they might turn out nicer than I expected!
