I plan to be there for the entire weekend although I suspect Monday might be the riskiest from a MOC disappearing act perspective. That being said, the larger MOCs such as those the size of St Pancreas or Westminster Abbey (two of last year's exhibits) can hardly be moved before the official close of business. One improvement this year is that exhibitors can display free of charge without attending AFOLCON and they will be given time to set-up on Friday night meaning that most stuff should be in place when doors open to the public on Saturday. As regards the 'first come, first served' aspect I suppose from a shopping perspective it might be better to arrive on Saturday rather than Monday. Some stuff may be more in demand! Last time around the Lego Show tickets were staggered so that crowds were spread evenly throughout the day rather than having 80% of the day's attendees arrive at peak time. There might be different arrangements this year given the venue change (it can handle much bigger crowds) and for those with weekend passes but I'm sure the organisers could clarify this for you. mrselsmore Posted February 21, 2012 I'm so glad you said that! I can't imagine handing that over to a courier - I'm not sure they'd understand the importance of being gentle with it! We did acutally hand it over to a courier to get it home again as we ran out of space in the van! It survived amazingly well considering, although it wouldn't be our preferred way of transporting it :-) I will almost certainly not have the use of a car for AFOLCON. Public transport to the centre itself seems to be easy enough, are there also regular buses to the recommended hotels? Also, unrelated to transport; do you guys do anything in the evening? I've been to a few anime conventions and they tend to have a lot of socialising in the evenings, do you do trips to the pub or anything similar? There are regular buses from the recommended hotels, which are all very close to each other, to the Trafford Centre, it's about a 12 minute journey. As far as possible all the displays will be there for the whole event, Saturday through to Monday. Certainly all the major/large displays will be . There may be specific circumstances where a disply can't be there for the whole event, but these would only ever be smaller displays and only in rare circumstances. There will be planned activities, watch the twitter accounts for information @AFOLCON & @LEGOSHOW There will not be award-giving to mocs; this is not a competitive display event. However, there may well be some friendly competitions as part of the evening social activities :-) There are no special bricks for LEGOSHOW-only attendees. Although, as someone has already mentioned, the various shops and vendors may have stock which will disappear faster than others. If you are not registered to display a moc, please don't bring your own lego with you: we cannot guarantee that it won't get mixed up with someone else and can absolutely guarantee that there won't be anywhere to display it :-) There will be activities during the LEGOSHOW which any attendee can take part in. As well as the chance to meet'n'talk with other AFOLs & display your mocs, you can... ...shop to your heart's content - or at least your wallet's limit ;-) - from our variety of vendors... ...listen to the talks from industry-experts... ...join in the free after-hours visit to the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, exclusively for AFOLCON attendees, see the AFOLCON website Agenda tab for details on this... ...take part in the activities planned for during the LEGOSHOW weekend, details to be published soon... ...join in the evening social activities for AFOLCON attendees, again details to be published soon... ...and if you've had enough LEGO (I know. Shopping - is on your own dime, naturally :) Activities during the LEGOSHOW - Building workshops run by Bright Bricks are chargeable, whilst the one by LEGOLAND Discovery Centre are free. Details of both of these are on the LEGOSHOW website, under Things to See, Building Workshops. Evening social activities - There won't be any additional charges for any of the activities, but all meals and drinks are on your own dime. the free after-hours visit to the LDC and the talks from industry experts are for full AFOLCON attendees. If you're displaying MOCs, yes you need to stay with them for Saturday through Monday. However, there will of course be lunch and other breaks where you can swap out with others and volunteers. You can wander to your heart's content on Thursday & Friday to chat with others and see everything - that is one of the major ideas behind AFOLCON.
