Not sure what you would need longer pumps for.

I would also like to add: use a motorized pump like the Unimog, and add a air tank, ten it would be perfect.

I wonder, could they make PF switches so that the pneumatic functions can be remotely controlled, or is that going a bit too far?

A rock crawler would still be quite cool, especially if it out does the power puller in terms of tyre size (even though I don't have them myself)

If you want truely proportional and accurate RC control of a pneuatic switch, then we really could do with a proper servo motor. This would do the job of controlling the valve and a lot of other things too making it more useful than a specialised all-in-one RC valve unit.

That would be great to see but I think an NXT motor and NTX brick would be way too large and expensive. The servos that you find in many non lego RC models are much smaller and very powerful and accurate. Something like that with a PF like outer casing would be perfect.

There is some info about the log transporter. Set number is 9397 and it has 1027 pieces with power functions.

According to the short description on the site of a dutch online shop it is a truck with crane. The cabin can tilt and the engine rotates.

1027 parts? Considering the previously mooted 130€ I would've expected more parts, even with the inclusion of PF. How much was 8070 in Euros? 110€?

8070 is €129 in Ireland!with 1027 parts I cant emagine this set to be very big!

I have often found myself holding the box and putting it back on the shelf with just a single thought "why am I even comtemplating buying this set?"

I have two: I bought one with 40% discount and I got other one on our TT competition. This set is really just good for pneumatic parts, beams and some standard technic parts. There are no panels and almost no gears.

I don't think that the 2012 "Log Transporter" set is merely a small version of the 8258 Crane Truck. I believe that it could really be a "Log Skidder", like the John Deere 548G-III "Grapple Skidder" pictured below. Sometimes TLG's set names are not accurate for the model (recall the "Extreme Cruiser" name for the simple, black SUV Set 8081).

If one considers the US$80 8265 Front Loader set from 2009 (which has 1061 pieces), one could add Power Functions to the "B-Model" and morph it into a new Log Skidder/ Log Transporter model:

Although the Dutch description clearly states a truck with crane and a tiltable cabin, like most trucks have.

I still hope you are right though
