Heroica RPG - Quest#3: The Missing Matriarch

Recommended Posts

The battle was over, and the demonic bed transformed back to Archmagistrum Zed Ziegfried. The purple light still lit up the room with its ominous glow.

The old wizard staggered as he stood up. Tears rolled down his cheeks.

"I... don't know what to say..."

Then the rest of the family suddenly burst in.

"Tell me it isn't true, father!" Altair shouted.

"Where you responsible for mother's death, like Chesterine claims?" his brother said, glenching his hands into fists.

"What did you do to poor Zelda?" Beth demanded.

"Did you really cause Chesterine's disability?" Mabel asked.

"I like that chair", Chesterine chimed in, pointing at the ornamental chair.

The Archmagistrum hung his head down.

"I cannot express how sorry I am, but I did not have choice. This house is cursed, and if I didn't do exactly as I was told... No, I cannot say more, or you will all be in danger. It is too late for me, but please, all of you, find a way to end this. My mother Zelda might still be alive. You will find him in the cellars, behind a secret wall that will open up if you utter the word... ABRAXAS."

As the word escaped the wizard's lips, vile green flames lit up all over his body. The booming voice spoke from the fireplace again.

"DAMNED BE YOU WHO SERVED ME SO LOYALLY ALL THESE YEARS! YOU WILL DIE, BUT THE CURSE WILL NOT. THIS HOUSE IS MINE THROUGH THE CONTRACT WE MADE! I JUST NEED tO FIND A NEW FEEDER!"

The other wizards tried to help the burning Zed, but the enchanted flames quickly consumed him. The eerie purple light vanished at the same time.

"It cannot be..." Altair said shaking his head. Everyone just stared at the charred corpse of Zed for a while, then in a common agreement they left the room. The party followed the wizard family downstairs.

Back at the parlour, the wizards gathered to discuss the matter. Altair turned to the party.

heroicaquest3-endwizards.jpg

"We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping us out, but we will take it from here. This is a family matter, and we cannot risk you getting harmed by someone as powerful as Abraxas because of us. So please, just accept our reward and return to your everyday lives, won't you?"

"We will call you if we need your help again, as you six have earned our family's respect. Here is the 900 gold promised, and you know what to do with the gems I gave you, right?"

The three mages in the party can keep one of the gems that they got from Altair, but they have to give one gem to a non-mage companion, and give one gem back to the Ziegfrieds. How will the gems be divided?

"Well then. I'll keep the Amethyst gem for myself and offer my other two out. Whoever wants them can have them. :sweet: High Conjurator, if you ever need our help with Abraxas, I assure you that the Halls of Heroica will be at your service. "

"Well, I think I'll have to keep this nice Opal, so someone can get either a Ruby or a Garnet."

"I knew Zed wasn't the one in the seat of power! I am most intruiged by the Zeigfried's plight.

On to loot distribution. Although I joined this quest aspiring for an Amythest, I now hope that Nyx would be so kind as to bestow upon me her Emerald or Topaz gem (preferably Topaz, but either is acceptable.) And also, I think I'd like the ice bomb from the group's loot."

High Conjurator I am honoured to have been able to serve your great family, and of course I would be honoured to do so again, should you require me to.

Nyx curtseys once more, and turns to her victorious team, smiling warmly and thinking how surprised she was to have enjoyed fighting side-by-side with them. She will look back upon this successful quest with a surprising lack of wanting to kill or maim anyone; rather she will remember her fellow heroes affectionately, and possibly with a smile or two.

Althior has requested the Lightning bomb, and Sylph the Ice Bomb, which leaves the Water Bomb and Fire Bomb to be divided between Bacari and Cronk. The 900 gold will be divided equally between the 6 of us, so 150 gold each.

As to the gems, I loathe to part with anything so pretty and so powerful, but I respect the Ziegfrieds too much to go against their word.

I will keep my Topaz (Lightning), and will offer up my Emerald (Wood) and Diamond (Light).

I will say that I believe the purchase price of these gems to be 100 gold pieces, and thus the selling price will be 50 gold pieces. I would be willing to meet a fellow adventurer halfway in the acquisition of either, or indeed both, of these gems for 75 gold pieces each. I don't think they can be sold yet in the marketplace, but I'm sure that will change in due course if you do not wish to take me up on my offer, but I think I am making a fair and potentially advantageous deal.

The three gems not claimed by Bacari, Cronk and Sylph will be returned to the Ziegfried family, naturally.

Now everyone! I've booked us all in for beauty treatments! Yes even you Cronk, they've fired up the angle-grinder for your pedicure and everything.

"How thoughtfull of you. I will take the Emerald." he said as he dealt with Nyx. he then backed up and addressed the whole party. "Thank you all. This has been an excellent learning experience. I cherish the time we have spent together." Sylph then regarded his companions from within his cold iron helm. He would remeber their strengths, their weaknesses, It was good to be back in the game after such a lengthy period of inaction. He could feel vestiges of his former strength returning to him slowly. But he could wait. He was good at waiting.

Thanks Zeigfrieds, call on us anytime. What a great quest.

OOC: I might scratch Bacari, after seeing the good/bad things about my job class, and switch to a new one, after all, it's not that hard to regain levels of experience. So if anyone wants, take my gem, I'll give it to whoever claims it.

Cronk would like to help bash big evil in basement. If Mages need help don't hesitate ask Cronk. Cronk feel bad that party not actually find Mages' GramGram. Cronk wish Mages good luck and hope they will be safe.

Cronk was hoping for Diamond (Light) gem for better bashing of evil but if Cleric Sylph taking Emerald make that not possible then Cronk will take Ruby from Mage Namyrra.

As for what bomb, Cronk not have preference for any kind. All go "Boom!" As long as bomb not blow up Cronk, Cronk happy.

High Conjurator Altair crosses his arms.

"I appreciate your courteousness to each other, but could you please state clearly what will happen to the gems. All these may I pleases and if nobody mindses are not helping you to reach a decision. Each mage should state what gem they will keep, and who they will give another gem to, and which gem they will return to us. If Bacari wants to give up his gem, please do so after leaving our manor."

High Conjurator, in the interests of sorting this out quickly and thus having us removed from your noble house, can we just ensure that three of the original gems are returned to you? As such:

Nyx keeps Topaz

Althior keeps Amethyst

Namyrra keeps Opal

Sylph takes Emerald

Cronk takes Diamond

Bacari takes a remaining gem (preferably Sapphire if you are willing to give it to me! )

Gems returned to you: Ruby, Garnet, Aquamarine.

Would you (and everyone else for that matter) find this acceptable?

Otherwise, we'll be here all day. :sceptic:

If that doesn't work, Cronk chooses between Ruby/ Garnet/ Aquamarine/ Sapphire and depending on what he chooses, Bacari takes either Garnet or Sapphire and Cronk gets the two remaining bombs as compensation (instead of just one). The other gems are all returned.

The mages return three of the gems to the family of wizards, and leave them to plan how they will save Grand Wizardine Zelda from the clutches of the mysterious "Abraxas". Schuester escorts the party out. The reptilian butler waves goodbye to the heroes, wishing they would one day return to rid the house of the curse once and for all.
