Possible answers to ideas for new parts

Recommended Posts

In this thread there are some ideas for new parts. Some of them are already in my mind and some are still funny to consider. At least I have the possibility to give some of them a try.

http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=32846

Here's a first trial for the gun (which was already in my mind for months) and I will also do a swivel version.

gun-1001.jpg

and here you find the version already on shapeways where you can use the 3d view to look at the piece from different sides.

http://www.shapeways.com/model/75662/napoleonic_gun.html

Coming soon:

swivel

1x1 with stud on both sides

Looks like it fits the standard cannon base - ?

I love it!

And looking forward to the swivel gun, and the 1x1 doublesided plate may actually make me take that step and buy something! :pir-blush:

I've tried to overcome that with packs (multiple pieces), which decreases the price. There's even a point where the whole costs less as before since the volume price has decreased. For single items the $1.x per piece makes the change. But with the packs now also coloring is affordable and that is an advantage (i.e. 10 bayonettes old form colored in Limestone: $0.83 per piece)

For this item there's the possibility to make some hole in the middle, reducing volume and reducing price.

@HappyOwl:

the 1x1 with studs will be an easy piece :-)

also the Swivel Gun is available. But does anybody have an idea for the holdering with lego pieces or is there a need to design something?

Here's the 1x1 with 2 studs.

1x1.jpg

http://www.shapeways.com/model/75753/1x1_2_plugs.html

If there's really interest in this piece I will do a 10x 1x1 with 10 pieces connected together, which makes the price more attractive.

Then there's only a beta tester needed!

I think I also have to adapt a little the dimensions to the correct LDU measures:

Base: 20x20x8 = 8x8x3.2 mm

Stud: 12x4 = 4.8x1.6 mm

(edited: done)

I have a Idea for the holder of the Cannon piece!

A perfect Idea. Is there a way you could make a piece like this:

2584.1068350621.jpg

Smaller like make it 1x1 and tighter to hold the two clips of the swivel cannon? Then it will be just like a small 1x1 stud to clip on the side rail of your ship.

That's my current proposal:

bildschirmfoto-swivel-holder.k3d_-_k-3d.png

The cylinder is placable on a stud, allowing also to have different positions.

The complete set would be:

I'd make it fit a 'rod' instead of a stud at the bottom (oh, man this can be interpreted wrongly :pir-tongue: ), that way it can swivel on - for example - 4623.gif, plus you'd be able to make it slimmer.

That may fit a bit too tightly, like when you put a cone over a lightsabre blade, and make you damage the piece when trying to rotate it.

A hole in the bottom which fits first a stud, and then a bar higher up on the inside, like a 1x1 round brick, would allow for greater MOC integration.

That's even better, like the pirate telescope on the front/bottom. Excellent idea.

It's exactly designed like that (the hight is 2x8 LDUs) . There's a hole in the bottom, so that it can be placed on a stud.

Take a look at the 3d view to see the details: http://www.shapeways.com/detail?model=75881&mode=3d

love to see small cannons and some larger ones. Big ones for artillery peaces and the small ones for small deck guns (like additional weaponry on ships). Perhaps add in wider hull parts so you could make slave ships or huge battleships.

Quick question - what kind of plastic are these made of?

Take a look at the material definition (PA 2200):

http://www.shapeways.com/materials/white_strong_flexible

Here's a picture comparing the materials:

And here is a picture of black colored PA2200 elements:

There's also real ABS available but the minimal wall sizes of 1mm are bigger then many walls of my parts.

Very cool! Does your midshipmen's hat come in black?

edit: I see that the 10 pack does. Do you have any plans on selling the cannon, the swivel gun and the base in black strong flexible ten packs? I'd be interested. I'd also love a large land based cannon and base.

I've uploaded the 15th mold test piece. I will order this by the end of the week and do the corrections based on the first prints.

http://www.shapeways.com/detail?model=79768&mode=3d

Afterwards all items will be available in all W&F colors (Black, Limestone, Terracotta).

If there's the wish for a 10 pack then you will get it.

To be honest I expect another test run since the guns were the very first design and it would be a miracle if everything will be ok (dimensions, size of the plug/should fit into the original lego one) ...

How about making a signal cannon? :pir-oh3: would be real nice with the harbor MOCs.. (And I think I'll save my money for a stainless steel polished Napoleonic Cannon.. :pir-wink: ) Anyway, Pic of signal Cannon:

Also, I just found this AMAZING site, (where the picture came from) To buy Awesome 1700's antiques! Tortuga Trading

Look there for LOTS of ideas! :pir-sweet:

Today the mold has arrived:

Swivel gun/holder: ok

Napoleonic gun: nearly ok, the plug for the original holder has to be a little be thickened

M1 pot: perfect

Mortar: ok but needs adaptations

Plume: small changes needed: thicken the plug and enlarge the feather

1x1 Plug: small adaptations needed: thicken the plug and check dimensions

Horn: small adaptations needed: maybe to small?

Hi woody64,

those molds look really cool.:pir-classic: Is it easy to paint them in the correct colors?

Kind regards,

Teddy
