Also do you know how much Tan Tiles cost!

Brown Tiles I havent tryed yet.

brown tiles are 0.12 euro for 1x6 at lossestenen.nl

but a ship like this is priceless :]

I didn't used a tiled deck because that reduces playability in my view as minifigs would fall easily.

I totally get that. It's why I build sidewalks for my town MOCs with plates, not tiles. Funny thing is I found 1x4 brown tiles in a PaB wall and got all excited about tiled decks and bought hundreds of them. Always a tough decision.

freakin' awesome ship, guys! We shall rule the seas!

Tan tiles are REALLY expensive. 2x2 doesn't seem like much money, but it takes so many of them... And there is the fact that you put your admiral on the deck and he falls on his face...

what a gorgeous ship! the angled stern is really impressive. The rigging and sails are really well done too! from a distance it looks like a authentic ship model and not lego at all!

Congratulations, great work! It´s a real challenge to approximate curves in the side of the ship with straight lines what’s necessary because of the constitution of the legoelements!! You found an excellent solution for this problem! I’m sure there is much patience and endurance essential to form such a work of art! The whole ship looks simply perfect!

Beautiful! :pir-wub: It's good to see your huge sorting job paid off! I especially love the stern.

I have three questions;

1. Is it correct to have a grey deck? I would have thought tan or brown...

2. Does the famous CGH rigging actually work or is it just decorative? That is, can you angle and raise/lower the sails?

3. So what are you going to do with this now?

Thanks to HMS243 for the idea to build little toilets in the bow

Toilets? Toilets?! There are no toilets on ships, especially sail ships... :pir-tongue:

Great job, and my only complaint is that it's missing sophomoric jokes and a walrus. :shark:

Indeed! You can't take a MOC so seriously!

My next ship will have a tan deck, but I still had a pile of old grey so I used in on this ship.

No, it's not really functional. That would be a challenge to make. I'm looking forward to someone making the first functional rigging on Lego ship. I know some of the builders making a real minifig scale ship plan to have functional rigging.

3. So what are you going to do with this now?

It's just sitting in my room and I look at it every day. I'm still don't want to change anything on the ship, so that's a good sign. I do plan to show it in the future during some Lego expositions (probably at Lego World next year). I wished I could show this ship (and some of the ones I'm working on) at BrickWorld, but that would be impossible (because of the transportation issue).

The Prince of Wales has been seriously updated and rebuild.

It'll be part of a sailing ship battle diorama during the upcoming Brickmania Event, so I decided it was time to give it a serious update.

Major changes:

- New decks (now they are tan iso grey)

- The sides of the ship are now completely smooth while before there where some 'jumps' at some points

Smaller changes:

- New anchors (brick made)

- 4 extra cannons on the deck (chasers on the bow and 2 more in bow section)

- New flag (historical correct)

- Many deck details (bell, etc.) and a full crew

- New ladders in the sides of the ship (more historical correct)

- All railings are now with tiles (no more plates) to make it look more smooth

- A lot more rigging and ropes all over the ship

- The ship is now carrying 2 rowing boats

I'll take pictures of the battle diorama and later I'll do another photo-shoot only of the Prince of Wales II.

The diorama at Brickmania will also contain a new ship that took around 2 years to complete (a French frigate - 24 guns) which will also get a topic once I can take decent pictures. This new ship is again a co-build with Captain Green Hair and several others friends who helped during a number of drinking/building sessions.

Awesome! I can't wait to see the pictures!

I wonder how you did some of the changes like a smooth side and new ladders.

Did you also consider using hoses for the headrails? (like on the Achille)

I did make a largely functional rigging on the Vesta so that should also be possible, or you could add studding sails.

I expect a great update! (even though it already was one of the best ships around)

And of course dioramas kick megablocks too :pir-classic:

Have fun at Brickmania. Hopefully we can do something similar on Legoworld in the future.
