New Cannon/ Gun design

Recommended Posts

I don't know much about cannons, but it looks to me like a very nicely built and detailed cannon. It is hard to see from the pics though, (as I can't see how it's attached) but can the cannon be moved to point up and down?

Nice but...

How many guns will you need?

Isnt the front of that a Palm tree bottom?

Dear Faramir,

thank you for your comment! :pir-classic:

The gun cannot move up or down. Its fixed to its current position.

This was the only way i could use those pieces.

Kind regards,

Teddy

Hi Joey Lock,

Thanks for your reply! :pir-classic:

Sharp eye Joey! The front is indeed a black palm tree piece. In fact i used two and a lego technic tube connector. The back of the gun are two pots and a pan. :pir-tongue:

These where the only objects with the right diameter I could find.

In the end I will need 102 guns of this type. Of which 30 are exactly similar and the others will vary a bit in length (be a little bit shorter). :pir-classic:

Kind regards,

Teddy

Indeed, as others have said it appears to be a great cannon I love all of the detail that you've put into it. I'm just wondering will you be able to get all of the necessary parts to build as many of these cannons as you need for your ship, I don't know for sure, but I think Black palm tree bases are rare, so you may need to substitute other pieces in for them. In any matter this cannon looks great, and i wish you best of luck on building the HMS Victory.

What is the caliber of this cannon?

Didn't the Victory have one deck of 32 pounders, one deck of 18 pounders, and the top deck with 9 or 12 pounders?

This is a very well built cannon.

How many of these are you able to build right now?

They seem to be made of some semi-pricey bricks.

I love the usage of pots and pans for the cannon.

That's pretty awesome! :pir-classic:

I may have to steal err borrow some of your techniques. :jollyroger:

Could we see a Scale between and minifigure and the Custom Cannon?

WOW! Once your HMS Victory is finished I will probably be the best (and biggest) pirate MOC I've ever seen! :pir-wub:

Hey Teddy,

That looks like a real nice cannon, especially the front of the barrel and the carriage look really cool!

The rear part of the barrel does however looks a bit blocky IMO, have you considered using this part for the rear?

Keep it up mate!

That's a mightily great long gun Teddy! The best one I've seen for sure!

I'm sure the HMS Victory will look great with those.

That would look great, but from the pictures it looks like Teddy already put on of these: 4081b.jpg on the end of the barrel.

I can't help to wonder, why did you put one of those at the end Teddy?

Dear Mr Tiber,

the main reason for using that specific part is to attach the breach rope.

A breach rope is used to controle the recoil of the gun when fired.

The breach rope is attached to the back of the gun, as can be seen in this image:

gun32.jpg

I designed an alternative base which allows for a slightly lower profile of the gun.

The lower profile of the base comes closer to the original gun base.

As requisted by Joey Lock I have used a mini-figure to give an indication of scale.

The gun with the newly designed base and minifigure is shown in this image:

Dear Mister Phred, the armament of the HMS Victory at Trafalgar was:

Lower Gun Deck 30 x 32 pounder

Middle Gun Deck 28 x 24 pounder

Upper Gun Deck 30 x 12 pounder (long)

Quarter Gun Deck 12 x 12 pounder (short)

Forecastle 2 x 12 pounder (medium)

2 x 68 pounder carronad

The 32 and 24 pounder guns will be made using the black palm tree trunks.

Currently I have enough black palm tree trunks to construct 20 guns.

As requisted by HMS243, I made two photos of the used pieces.

From what I know all the admins are very friendly. So I hope there would be no talk of banning :pir-cry_sad:

Anyway I have got to say that the Cannon is brilliant! The right size too!

Well done! I might use that technique for my new MOC if you dont mind?

Dear all,

I will not update this gun design.

Would it be possible fo this design to be indexed?

Kind regards and thanks in advance,

Teddy

An amazing design, your guns look very good.

Your spelling isnt that bad and it clearly has improved, you are also very friendly in your posts.

Knowing the mods and admins I dont think (and hope) you will be banned or anything.

Your MOCs are great,

Your MOCs are great,

Thanks, for the compliment about my MOCs!

Don't worry about the warnings I received. I haven't had any since.

I do admit I was somewhat shocked, since I write many scientific articles in English for my work.

But it was tracable to a late night post. :pir_laugh2:

I saw the gun was indexed. So many thanks to the admins!

However, it is modeled after a 32 pounder gun in a 1:40 minifig scale according to original specs.

So, I'm sure the scale of the gun is correct for a genuine 32 pounder, although it is currently listed as a 12 pounder.

I can understand since the design is sleek :pir-tongue: , but its barrel is 1.5 suds larger than the original lego gun in real life. :pir-classic:

Kind regards,

Teddy

I can't wait to see the Victory under full sail and filled with cannons! :pir-sweet:

Your cannon design is magnificent Teddy as I'm sure you already know yourself :pir-tongue:

You say this design only covers the 32-and 24 pounder guns of the ship.

Do you have an idea yet as to how you're going to design the 12 pounder guns?

That's a really nice one. It's always good to have an alternative to the original cannons, especially as good-looking as this one!

Dear all,

thanks for the compliments on the gun! :pir-cry_happy:

For the smaller calibre (12 pounder) guns I wanted to, more or less, stick to the same design.

But, make them somewhat shorter and probably without the palm tree trunks.

The carriage will stay more or less the samen, but one stud shorter.

I still haven't made my mind up though. I just solve these design steps as i go allong. :pir_laugh2:

Kind regards,

Teddy
