The French sidewheeler "La Gloire"

There were some very fine entries in our latest competition that deserve a decent discussion.

I'll give the example by posting my entry in a separate thread.

I would like to encourage all the contestants of the Pimp your IMTP ship contest to make separate threads for their ships.

The sidewheeler "La Gloire" build by the empire of France can run both on steam and sail.

It is a small but fast ship that can be used for a variety of naval tasks.

It's built in a black and white color scheme with a bit of brown.

Here we see the ship on a secret mission for the emperor somewhere near the North Pole.

* Special thanks to Legeaux who's ship 'Guerre de Roue' was a big inspiration. The design of the sidewheels is based on his brilliant ship.

Bonaparte, I absolutely *wub* this ship. Superb efort *y* *y*

In fact I voted for you on the first poll (silly me ;-) ).

I think it is a good idea for seperate threads as each entry deserved one *y* .

I will make a thread for mine once CGH's sails arrive (sometime this week).

She looks different now but I won't spoil too much...

A very good and original idea, beautiful executed! *y*

The way you did these side wheels is very smart too, and the proportions and the

color scheme 're plain charming too. A cool work indeed! :'-)

I've made it quite obvious I'm not a big fan of steam ships, however this doesn't dissuade me from acknowledging this is a very good MOC.

It's nicely structured and as has a consistent aesthetic, so the design is cohesive and appears to be well thought out. The rigging is masterful and I don't think I've seen Technic bricks used like, but they achieve a wonderful effect.

I simply love this ship! *wub*

I might have to borrow that pipe design ;-)

Will you be making sails for it now that you've lost?

I would have recommended some smoke coming out of the chimney though :'-)

And, of course, the stunning (if lucky) photomography... *wub*

I really love this ship, Bonaparte *wub* It's a very good size, and it's good to see some industrialized ships. The pipe and sidewheels are great, as is the railing. To top it all off, the colour scheme , with the brightly coloured French flags looks very eye-catching.

Great work, I always love your creations *y*

What are you going to be using pipes for SlyOwl? You're not going to build a sidewheeler are you? X-O

No, no, no - the one Steve's smoking - I'll be using it in Nassau Port :-P

This really is a fine ship B *y*

Sidewheelers don't show up very often in the Index of MOC Ships.

I think this ship is a good inspiration to venture outside the norm of square-rigged war ships.

Great work on getting second in the contest too.

What did you end up using it for?

You really should have won.

I love the pipe idea. I hope you don't mind if I use it in my future MOC's.

And how did you get the name plate on the back of the ship?

Regards, an envious Captain Zuloo :-D

I've been waiting to see a sidewheeler ship for a long time. La Gloire is a superb lego creation. What did you use for the iceburgs?

Um...a pipe X-D One of the old men having a picnic is smoking it ;-)

What did you use for the iceburgs?

I think B. got very lucky; his swimming pool froze over and the icebergs are small clumps of snow that settled on top; they have all the luck in Blegium |-/

Thanks everyone for all the nice compliments!

And how did you get the name plate on the back of the ship?

I designed it in Paint Shop Pro, printed and glued it.

What did you use for the iceburgs?
One this wonderful day in December our pool was frozen and there was a bit of snow on the ice.

Luck? Maybe :-)
