In addition to the packaging change an update has been made to the building instructions. The building instructions will have additional pages detailing the model’s connection to the movie and its development process. Much as the Creator Expert badge differentiates the larger models from the core assortment the goal of this change is to better communicate to builders that these sets represent our biggest building challenge in the LEGO® Star Wars™ theme.

    75220 Sandcrawler MOD WIP

I just couldn't resist to post a couple WIP pictures of my improved Sandcrawler. I purchased two of the new light bricks from B&P and incorporated them into the design. There are still some orders pending to arrive to finish the interior and some features but the lights look really nice. For the exterior I just performed the usual gap filling and increased detailing of surfaces. I will post more pictures once it's finished but feel free to ask if you want to see any specific area.

    [MOC] Sandcrawler

Ah 75059. My wallet shrieked, tore off screaming and hasn't been seen since. So I gathered up all the brown, tan and greys I could find and put together a sandcrawler, of the Tatooine + Jawa variety. Here's a MOC in the possible Midi-scale range; however it is also large enough for figs and features 4 custom Jawas... and a number of captured droids stuffed in the hold. I wanted something a bit more like the previous sandcrawler - but smaller. The result is something that fits well among the other Tatooine playsets and vehicles. In other words, I want a sandcrawler at a scale that won't compete with The Death Star 10188 for shelf display superiority. I didn't have a substantial number of brown and light brown plates around to make the exterior so this sandcrawler actually has more in common with 10114's than 75059. And of course, much smaller. The windows aren't exactly screen-accurate in their placement, however they provide an excellent view from inside the cockpit. I was able to score some simple treads for the bottom and although, they are also not the most screen-accurate representation, I feel they capture the spirit and also allow the crawler to move fairly smoothly. Here's the crew. Custom Jawas include torsos and feet from old Ewoks and black head pieces from Stormies. The brown hoodies are from surplus Obi Wans collected over the years. The yellow eyes are single blobs of nail polish. I didn't feel they needed decal torso prints but hey... maybe someday. The back area was the most fun to detail. I looked at some official schematics as well as some incredible builds from around the 'net for inspiration. The two cylinder things at the rear are distinctive and needed to be included. A couple of simple, strategically placed round studs provide a stopping point for the angled front walls of the crawler. The result is a snug fit when the door is raised - however the pieces are fairly worn and it won't hold in place. :/ On the top I had to take some liberties with the overall shape of the front since I wasn't using bricks that would allow such dramatic slopes. Here's the interior view from the forward bay. Junk and droids lay scattered along the entire first floor. You can see a maintenance bay above that - this piece is part of a large hunk that is removed for access to the interior. Here it is removed: The detachable part by itself: Overhead view of the cockpit and the hold below: The cockpit is just high enough for a Jawa to stand and the lid opens and closes easily. Over on the other end is a small platform where an engineer Jawa can access the main reactor. Well, that's that. I think the scale is good for my display, so I'm not looking to enlarge it but I do feel the shape of the upper front (cockpit area) might find improvement somehow. Also I'm looking to do a bit more color swapping in favor of the color pattern from 10114. I'm certainly open to comments and criticism. Thanks for checking it out and best of luck sweeping the deserts for salvage!
  4. I recently deleted from my wishlist the UCS Sandcrawler and decided to review it:) Although I am not a big Star Wars fans, this set was pretty special for me, because of its design, being a big UCS set and for not being another spaceship in the line. I also believe it has a great potential of being a great investment for the future.. When it first came out I was snob towards it because I had marshal banana's amazing MOC stuck in my mind... The review will be done from Mr Rambi (Royal Guard) and Sir Gunman with the help of some extra guys who are not included in the set Enjoy! Gunman:Here comes our wagon... Rambi:Boxes are ready too..! Inside view Gunman:A lot of boxes... Rambi:Ye.. damn... Sixteenth section finished, UCS Sandcrawler is now ready! Spare parts: Critism: Its one of the top sets in my opinion... Must buy even for the not so big Star Wars fans like me... It has a great design, an amazing series of minifigs and a very roburst construction together with a lot of functions to play with! Design:10/10 A great design with a very roburst construction based it technic bricks. Price/Pieces: 9/10 The set has an amazing collection of bricks, but in my opinion its one of those sets you should canibalize for MOCs... you just keep it for display or play with it. Playability:10/10 Its size gave the capability to its designer to include a lot of different functions to play with making it a really great PLAY set for all your scifi scenarios! Building:9/10 A bit tiring building procedure, but its expected due to its size... Though it has very inderesting details and technics from the designer... Specialy the technic part of the set. Total:9.5/10 Amazing set... No words to say... Just looking at the series of the minifigs included you can safely say its worth its money... I suggest you buy it if you are 50/50 before its price begin to skyrocket! Sandcrawler vs smart comparison Vadie relaxing... Thanks a lot! Gunman

    [MOC] Attack on Empire

Once every blue moon I build a Star Wars MOC. My last one was five years ago! As I was building for a local geek event I was displaying at, I decided on a mashup. The microscale Sandcrawler was built from a few pictures from the film. Luke is custom as I do not actually have a flesh-tone figure of him or even a New Hope version. I stole my brother-in-law's alarm clock. I really don't need to explain the reference do I? Anyhop, here is my MOC. Comment and critique as you wish.
  6. I would like to introduce you a combination of microscale and rather big volume vehicle, that roams Tatooine deserts - the Jawa's Sandcrawler: It took slightly over 100 brick to build, of which most came to the superstructure of the vehicle to adapt the original look of a desert battered hull. Despite the scale, the vehicle has retractable front ramp: As you have probably noticed on previous photo, there has been a change in the undercarriage - the first version had simple liftarm-style tracks. Those were gradually changed to movable ones - first using rubber tires, than chainlink system. Both fore and aft carriages can be rotated in limited range. Recreation from the movie: "Wait, what's that? A transport. I'm saved. Over here!" ... and something less official, cut from the New Hope footage: ”-We are looking for the droids, found by you in the nearby sector. Surrender them immediately. - Mombay m'bwa dooka. Ya e'um pukay. Utinni, nekkel juuvar obwegadada!*” You know what happened next... * This is my junk. I won't sell. Beware, you (cenzored)! Enjoy the rest of the gallery on Flickr.

    Which is the best set?

Welcome to EB. As this is a "What should I buy?" topic, I've moved its contents over to General LEGO Star Wars Questions.

    Jawa base ideas

Hi everybody! I've never really been into Star Wars that much before, but after seeing the new Sandcrawler, I want to start collecting Jawa stuff. I'm going to want to build a base for the Jawas, so that they don't all have to be in ONE sandcrawler. They seem expensive, so I'll only be getting one. Anyway, I want some advise for the base. I want an area for them to trade stuff with people, and a resting place. In the back I would like a loading dock to load stuff on and off the Sandcrawler. I would also like a resting place for the Jawas to take a nap. The building would be on a 48x48 baseplate. I will try to keep to the earthy color tone- brown/town with some medium nougat thrown in here and there. It will be a solitary building for now, but I will leave a doorway on the side so that I can eventually add a tunnel-like thing on and add another 48x48 baseplate- but first things first. :) any ideas? Help is greatly appreciated. Ps: does anybody know how to upload a LDD file here? I will start the basic ground plan in LDD, and want to share it. Thanks!
  9. The suns have set, and it's getting pretty cold on this godforsaken sandbox. But I shouldn't complain. At least, I'm alive. I was keeping a close eye to the ground, searching for signs of rebels, the Black Sun, or something else that could threathen our troops (not that that rebel scum could harm us in any way, but better safe than sorry. Besides, I had to make sure our groundtroops wouldn't fall into the pit of some desert monster. Well that was a threat!). I knew we were approaching the rebels, so I was extra focused. At first, I didn't even notice the slight shaking of my TIE. But when it grew worse, and when everything was getting way to dusty, I noticed the sound. The motor of a Star Destroyer couldn't match that sound. It was enormous, and it was all around me. It made my head and my craft spinning. Black was everything I could see when I regained consciousness. The inflatable cushions had worked, and they had saved my life. Drowsy, I managed to get out of my craft. It wasn't easy, since it lay at an unusual angle and because I had to be careful with all the debries. The suns were just above the horizon, and in their light I could witness the wreckage that once was my TIE Fighter. In the neighbourhood, I could see several Stormtroopers. Some were moving slowly, others didn't move at all. A commander came towards me. I convinced him the TIE was of no use. Obviously, it couldn't fly, and I had a power leak. The transmitter was broken as well. But I offered to stand on guard, because I don't now how to treat the wounded and I do now how to look around. So I ended back on top of my TIE. [soNE Ep. II] To rob a thief by Bert.VR, on Flickr And just moments ago, when the suns had set, a Sandcrawler appeared on the horizon. Hurrah! Life! Although it were those filthy Jawas... but they had a vessel capable of crossing this dessert. My mind worked like a mad man. Since a couple of years, the Jawas stayed away from us (this probably had to do with those few worthless Jawas that were killed in pursuit of some droids, I think). So just like our own companions, they must think we're all that. They just here to steal our equipment, but if we act quick enough, we could reverse this. I hurry of my TIE to inform the commander. He approves of my plan, and everyone still able to hold a gun is being prepared. The Jawas are coming closer, and we are ready. Our ambush isn't very refined, but it'll have to do. Soon, we'll be out of this place, highjacking a Sandcrawler. Soon, those Jawas will shiver and bring us to our companions in one of the mayor cities. Soon, we'll be able to shake this sand out of our suits. We're about to rob a thief. For those interested, here is what I saw through my binoculars: [soNE Ep. II] Sandcrawler close-up by Bert.VR, on Flickr This is what I didn't want to see... my TIE... broken. [soNE Ep. II] What a mess! by Bert.VR, on Flickr And O, In the first shot Tatooine may seem like a beautiful place, but when viewed from a different angle, you can see what kind of mess it is... It does manage to stay upright, however. [soNE Ep. II] What I don't want you to see by Bert.VR, on Flickr Extra parts: none, except for the baseplate and the minifig. That's why the colors are terribly of and I had to take (read: render) a picture with contours. It turned out pretty cinematic, I think. LXF-file: find it here Thanks again for organizing this wonderful contest! This really got my creative juices going. It was a great contest to have as my first one.
