Thought I'd collect my growing series of six-wide builds into one place as my feed on Flickr is getting pretty dense. I'd struggled to get the Speed Champions cars proportioned to my liking (I ended up with slightly outrageous 10-wide P1 prototypes), meanwhile my Flickr feed has a continuous drizzle of inspiring builds done around the slightly smaller City Scale fenders and tires. Somehow this scale just works. While there are a good many builders on Flickr working at this scale and all their work inspires in some way, I would like to call out ER0L, Tom Netherton and Adrian Barbour aka BrickMonkey in particular as their approaches, shared designs and instructions went a long way to kick-starting this series of building for me. I've adopted the techniques they honed which has given me a great platform to come up with some of my own tricks. Also, there's sort of an easter-egg in all of them; rather than filling the inner spaces of the chassis with big bricks a la Speed Champions, I like to tuck in plate-built details like engines and chassis structures. Hakosuka and McLaren instructions are available at Rebrickable: https://rebrickable.com/users/prototyp/mocs/ 1972 Datsun 510 A cooler version of my college car (if I weren't so broke the and had actually hopped up my Dime); fat MiniLites tucked into some flares, front and rear skirt work, and a twin-cam engine swap under the hood. Nissan Skyline KCG10 '72 Early work on the 510 ended up developing into the even cooler, lower, sleeker, meaner Skyline GTR "Hakosuka" McLaren P1 Unrelated in every way to TLG's Speed Champions P1; very long, very low, very curvy... Even the color is opposite. Particularly proud of the trick nose build and that TT wing plate as a rear diffuser (which, interestingly enough the new 720S Speed Champions model also uses) Built up in some colorways. Ferrari 458 Italia Distantly-related to BrickMonkey's 'chibi' style Ferrari 458 caricature. Like the McLaren, this one is also quite long and low. There's a plate-built V8 tucked in the mid-rear, too. (will need to build this one in more colors, too) Honda NSX Type R Adapted from Tom Netherton's Acura NSX with a new nose, new tail, and a v6 under the rear glass. Ford Mustang GT350 Another Tom Netherton-based build. His work on the nose and side panels is fantastic stuff. I reworked chassis to move the whole roof/cockpit area back a stud in order to play up the long-hood coupe proportions. Under the hood is just enough space for a hint of plate-built V8 and the GT's strut-tower cross brace. The tail is extended and incorporates a custom exhaust and diffuser setup. Porsche 935 '77 This MOC started out as a build of a 911 street car but got sidetracked by the desire to make something a little more outrageous (and to use the Speed Champions fender/tire combo). The turbofan wheel covers and front suspension camber are small design and technique triumphs. Some good bones here for a series of stickered replicas. And yes, there's a turbocharged, air-cooled flat 6 engine under the rear hood, too.

What Would You Want to See from a Revival of the Racers Theme?

Would you want to see a reboot of the multifaceted, everything automobile centric Racers theme? If so, what lines or subthemes would you like to see introduced or return for such a revival? Introduced in 2002 and ended in 2012, with Speed Champions informally replacing it three years later, I've always been fascinated by the theme in concept, as its many subthemes were so varied and distinct from one another in a way unlike many other lines' handling of their own subthemes. Though many Racers subthemes from then were too odd or goofy for my likening, I think Lego could do better with such a conceptually restraint-less line nowadays, with much room for a great number of possibilities. -
Hi there, some of you may know me as contributor to mostly GoH and BoBS, but I took the liberty to create some "fantasy old fashioned racing cars": (old and new gray clashes a bit but pls note the horn!) .. and these made me think of Mario Cart... Has somebody used the trash bins before? I hope you like these automobiles. Constructive criticism is welcome!

(This may apply to the Action & Adventure theme forum, but since it's just a bunch of vehicles I put it here. Sorry if this topic needs to be moved!) Tramp Steamer I built this ship from two Adventurers sets: I used the boat from set 5975 (T-Rex Transport) and modified slightly to resemble set 5976 (River Expedition). The ship features a boiler, steering wheel and a bigger smoke-stack. I have also added a complete bridge with removable roof instead of the open topped one on my previous version of the ship. The top floor of the ship is the bridge - this area contains a nautical telegraph (to control speed) and the wheel (to control direction)... and yes, there is a piece out of place. I fixed it after taking this photo. The lower floor features the boiler room. It is empty right now, but could be re-purposed into a captain's cabin. Island Hopper seaplane This is a seaplane based off 2008 Indiana Jones set 7628 (Peril In Peru), along with inspiration from 2000 Adventurers set 5935 (Island Hopper) thrown in for good measure. This part goes on both sides of the tail: http://alpha.brickli...=87079pb006#T=C The plane now has a interior that seats five people: 1 pilot and four passengers. Treasure Chaser - Johnny Thunder's ride This model was inspired by sets 7622, Race for the Stolen Treasure, and 5918, Scorpion Tracker. Ford Model AA truck This one was heavily inspired by set 10222, Winter Village Post Office. I originally built it from the pictures before instructions came out. 1922 MOON Automobile This car was originally a Rolls Royce Phantom MKII first designed by Carl Greatrix that got transformed into a MOON Touring car. (no, the the jalopy from the Apollo Moon missions, but the car company from St. Louis MO!) once I realized how close they were to each other in style cues. I guess I did the usual car building process backwards: build the car, then find a real life counterpart, instead of building the car off a specific type. Roaring 20's Gangster Sedan This model was modified from set 7682, Shanghai Chase. Perfect for smuggling illegal alcohol or setting up a drive by for friendly meeting with the rival gangs. Gasoline tanker truck Built from set 7683, Fight on the Flying Wing and modified to have a radiator grille and a better fuel tank. Island Racer mark II I modified my copy of set 5920 to have a longer wheelbase and a spare wheel. I also modernized the engine area with special attention paid to the grille. Lord Sam Sinister's personal vehicle This model was inspired by the recent announcement of the Super Man "Action Comics Number 1" exclusive San Diego Comic Con 2015 LEGO set, which I then extended and improved into the model seen here. This part goes on the rear license plate spot: http://www.bricklink....asp?P=3069bpa1 and as a bonus here is my favorite picture: A Sinister Encounter In case you wonder what is so sinister about the picture, the name of the person who owns the house is Lord Sam Sinister, an evil man who hates the owner of the plane: Johnny Thunder and his friend and aviatrix of the seaplane, Pippin Reed.
