  1. Blacktron I rises again! "You are now entering the Blacktron sector! This is the absolute limit of the Classic Space quadrant! You have been warned!" ...sorry about that. Had to get the legal stuff out of the way first! Anyway: Blacktron long-range fighter "Buzzard" Above is the two copies of the Blacktron XL-15, which are now dubbed the "Buzzard" type starfighter. So back in January of 2023, I decided to convert the XL-15 spaceship from the film "Lightyear" into original Blacktron colors. The blue became yellow, and white was turned to black, with all the trans-green removed. I added laser blasters under the wings where some technic pins are and put a different control tile in the cockpit. I was thinking about building a second ship, but then again, getting some of the parts from Bricklink was a total pain due to extremely low quantities in the needed color. (I'm talking about you, 3 x 3 wedge plate in yellow!) Thankfully, I bought one too many of both kinds of the yellow 12 x 3 wedge plates, as they are very rare as well with only one store selling four of each kind in the USA, which made making the second one easier later on. Blacktron command vessel "Executor" In addition to the two Buzzards, I wanted a Blacktron capitol ship. I had no ideas of my own ship, so I spent most of the afternoon of 10/5/23 taking Benny's beloved spaceship from The Lego Movie and corrupting it into a twisted, evil version. I revamped the nose, removed the expanding wing assembly and snub fighters. Of course I then recolored it almost exclusively in black and yellow. (some gray was unavoidable!) I armed it with a turret on the top rear where the sensor array once was, and put the commanders office below where the wing mechanism used to be. To keep with the one-word naming scheme of the original Blacktron, I borrowed the name of Darth Vader's Super Star Destroyer, decreeing this ship the Blacktron Executor. I struggled to think of an engine flame color that fit OG Blacktron, but eventually trans-light blue was selected. Since the wings don't extend anymore, I added a third section for figures with a turret on top in their place. The rear-most section lifts away, but the rest of the roof sections are supposed to fold open. The ship seats seven troops and 1 commander. Blacktron giant robot "Destructor" For this model, I used parts and ideas from the Eternals line's "In Arishem's Shadow" set 76155 (body / head / upper legs / upper arms) along with claw from the old Agents 2.0' "Robot Attack" set 8970. The lower legs and laser arm are (modified) holdovers from the "Build Better Bricks" Iron Giant instructions. (I need to fix the laser arm's elbow joint but I keep forgetting!) Blacktron "Shadow Runner" space car Recently, while I was on my Blacktron kick, I decided I needed a vehicle for the commander. So, after a few false starts with other models, I dusted off this old TRON Legacy Light Runner model and went to town modifying it. The model originally was made five years ago (was 2018 really that long ago?!?), and is based off the two-seater TRON set 21314 MOD that was made by BrickBrosUK and posted on Brickset here. The name Shadow Runner is a play on the Light-based vehicles from TRON. Blacktron minifigs These pilot minifigs are from the GWP with back printing (gotten from Pick A Brick) while the commander is mostly from the Series 19 Galactic Bounty Hunter CMF. NOTES: To be honest, I've had these built since at least last November, but finally got around to taking all these pictures just yesterday. Thoughts? EDITED 3/12/24: real world photos added and text changed around.

    SPACE DROID XL - SP081

Greetings! Let me present my newest Lego Ideas project. This is an homage to the droids included in Classic Space sets on the late 80s. The robot comes with a flyer and a rover which can be hold inside the unit's body. Also, the head serves as the cockpit. If you like it, Please support on IDEAS: https://ideas.lego.com/.../30c1323e-08cf-47a3-98e5...
  3. In-universe backstory: Long ago, the world of Zonia (home-world of Classic Space) was a peaceful planet, with it's own interstellar spacefaring fleet and a moon brimming with lunar bases and habitation domes for the minifigs who lived there. They had no real major weapons development for hundreds of years, and no need for it anyway... it was a happy place with smiles everywhere you looked. This peace was not to last. Just beyond the moon orbiting Zonia, there was a rip in spacetime that formed slowly over several millennia. This strange tear was generally unnoticed by the various space fleets. However, ships did disappear occasionally in that area, and thus it became a cursed quadrant, as more ships vanished and the rip grew in all three dimensions. Eventually, it became big enough in size to be seen visibly from the moon's surface. Then, as the unease and restlessness caused by the tear in spacetime grew to near paranoia, a very large being appeared from the tear and crashed into the nearby moon, seemingly injured, if not dead, from it's trip through the nether between the universes. The planetary government of Zonia, sensing the mood of the populace, silenced all non-official communications between the moon bases and the surface of Zonia. A blockade was also effected, sealing the area off from everyone but the command and scientific arms of the Government. Immediately, the curious populace used whatever they could find to observe the creature from the planet: telescopes, binoculars, and those with good eyesight and a little know-how saw what the rulers didn't want them to - the stellar being was injured and dying, and the Zonia leaders were fighting amongst themselves on what to do about it. One side (the scientists) wanted the severely burned and blackened being merely stabilized, and moved elsewhere to study and eventually be released into outer space quadrant where it had come. The command arm, however, wanted to augment the being with advanced weaponry while clearing it's mind of everything personality-wise for use as a war drone, as it could be this being was an accidental advance warning of an incoming invasion. The commanders won out by sheer power of numbers via a electronic vote, and the work was begun begrudgingly by the science arm. The ruined lower arms were removed by the scientists while the being was incapacitated by it's journey and impact on the moon. They added a laser arm to the left side (originally designed for drilling into the core of meteor samples) and a immense gripper claw to the right... a hand design couldn't be worked out due to difficulties with copying the quite mangled original hand. This is where things went south: the command arm responsible for the decisions just described was touring the facility while the mind wipe was being done. Conscience and feeling of guilt had been removed, while most of the emotions were going out when the being awoke. (It is worth mentioning at this point that Compassion, care, and love were gone. However, rage, hatred, cunning, and the original intelligence / memories remained inside the mind when it emerged from it's long slumber) Needleless to say, it was a massacre. The being culled only those that purposely had hurt it during it's sleep: the command staff. The scientist there that day were spared death, as they had been doing no intentional harm and had wanted nothing to do with the plans it was forced to carry out. This wasn't the end, however. The moon of Zonia began to move under the telekinetic power of the being, and some of the remaining science staff were allowed to flee... about 1/2 of the entire Ministry of Science left the moon and returned to their world, while the remains of the command staff and their allies stood motionless. They were being remotely mindwiped by the towering being, becoming drones themselves as they had wished to do to the celestial stranger. The being then warned the Zonia people directly with a broadcast to every device on the planet: Do not interfere with me again, or risk becoming drones like your countrymen. It ended the broadcast by first signaling the logo of the lunar base on which it has been experimented on, albeit with a color change to black background (signifying the burned skin of the being) with three yellow triangles in a pattern now synonymous with evil. Then, that faded away with the robot's ingrained military designation from the now-dead CS commanders coming onto the screen: Blacktron-1 Then the moon disappeared into the space rift to a destination unknown, leaving the world of Zonia in peace once more. But for the galaxy at large, there would be no peace - only the rise of Blacktron! Model and notes: For this model, I used parts and ideas from the Eternals line's "In Arishem's Shadow" set 76155 (body / head / upper legs + arms) and "Hydra Stomper" set 76201 (Laser power / jet pack thing on the back of the robot) mech models from Marvel, along with claw from the old Agents 2.0' "Robot Attack" set 8970. The lower legs and laser arm are (modified) holdovers from the "Build Better Bricks" Iron Giant instructions. I think he looks quite menacing, what about you? This "war-bot" is supposed to be an opposite (yet equal in strength) foe for my Classic Space fleet, and an enemy to "fight" at any future displays and on my space layout. He is slightly shorter in stature than my Classic Space robot, but his laser arm and crusher-claw hand make up for it! I thought robots were "To Serve Man".... Any thoughts? Comments, questions, and complaints welcome! Edited 10/24/21: Added real world pictures of the model.
  4. This Classic Space version of Build Better Bricks' Iron Giant with the head of the previous @hachiroku version of the Giant's head added on. (consider it a mashup of the two Iron Giant models!) The car was also inspired by this Hachiroku build here, and was originally made by me in September 2020. I have just now revised this early 1950's car for Benny with new mudguards that cover the (enlarged) two rear wheels. I made both MOC models into CS colors (black, both "new" grays, and blue, with white for the car roof) with red and green indicator light parts (on the robot only), and two yellow / black bumblebee stripe tiles with a printed 4 x 2 slopes on the arms / car trunk lid. (They aren't shown, but have this print) The gray jumpers near the robot's waist are for power conduits, so he can be recharged without consuming (costly!) metal products via his opening mouth. Speaking of which, the mouth now can open to allow for posing... but unfortunately, it doesn't play nice with the shoulders, so the mouth must remain closed until I can figure out a better solution. Another thing that didn't work well was the rotating waist: it operated too jerkily and was hard to operate, so I removed that feature. The rear of the robot. Not sure if it's a feature, but the arms won't go down any further to the sides... I tried everything I could think of, but no dice. This is because the arms can't be removed without destroying the awesome-looking - and very intricate - torso. Looks pretty classy, right? The two doors open, but the obligatory black space seat is missing, because any more height and Benny would not fit inside. The rear has a license plate, the classic space logo, and two coverings mostly obscuring the rear wheels. As a courtesy to the driver instead of the space seat, I have included a light bluish gray upholstery for the back of the seat. As usual, Thoughts, Suggestions, Comments, & Questions of any kind are always welcome! So, what do you think?
  5. Long before the Iron Giant began hurtling towards Rockwell, there was a prototype model, which landed on Earth close to 64 years earlier than the Iron Giant's 1957 landing. They were very similar robots, made by an Ancient race of beings that wanted to gather as much information about the Universe as possible. They first created this prototype model which was made mostly of brass, copper, and iron, but was powered by a highly advanced Fusion reactor that was powered by metals the robot consumed, usually uninhabited asteroids floating through space. Unlike the Iron Giant, this prototype was not able to re-assemble itself as it had a error in it's programming. In the year 1893, the then un-named Brass Automaton landed in the Pacific Ocean near the long-forgotten Dino Island. It created a tsunami and unhinged the island from the Earth's crust and as such the land began to slowly sink. The robot was first sighted by nearby Australian military sailors, who upon seeing the giant being arise from the water, tried to describe the being the best way they could through their wireless telegraph: they named it the Brass Automaton. Johnny Thunder and his Adventurers crew would later go looking for this great metal being after saving as many dinosaurs as possible from the sinking primeval island in 1923, but never saw it, as it was hiding in South American coastline to gather information on the dominant beings of Earth, also known as Humans. After staying relatively hidden in various secluded ocean floor places around the globe for around thirty years, the Brass Automaton was finished reading the minds off people for information on humans as a species: Our past, our present as of 1924, our origin (as it was then known), and our many languages, along with defenses, politics, and technology. After gathering all that intelligence, the Brass Automaton headed to the North Pole along the sea floor to transmit the required information to it's home planet using a faster-than-light sub-dimensional beacon. (Basically, a fancy radio) That is just about when a major solar storm hit the Earth, with the radiation hitting the atmosphere of the Earth and scrambling the outgoing signal into nonsense. Now the garbled signal was received by the home base, and as a precaution, the Iron Giant version of the Brass Automaton was dispatched as fast as possible to earth. (That would take it nearly 35 years for it to get there at all possible speed, which would require it to refuel once arriving on Earth, which is why the Iron Giant was at the power plant at the beginning of the movie, whereupon it's memory was scrambled by the high-voltage electricity.) After sending the garbled message and being struck by a passing icebreaker-ship on his trip southwards, the Brass Automaton was temporarily incapacitated. It was then discovered washed ashore at the southern tip of Greenland by Dr. Harold Wormwood and brought back in pieces to his stately laboratory / mansion in Legorado, Colorado, where he ran test after test on the alien visitor. By 1926, the mad scientist-type Doctor Wormwood had the resembled robot nearly reassembled, and was preparing to restart it when a Lord Sam Sinister came upon rumors of the robot and wanted it for his own nefarious desires, with Johnny Thunder close on his heels... This steampunk version of the Brass Automaton a recolored and modified version of Build Better Bricks' Iron Giant with the head of my previous @hachiroku version of the model (seen above) of the same robot's head added on... I consider it a mashup of the two models. I made it into steampunk colors (black, brown and dark gray) with an exhaust steam pipe at the back of the neck, and yes, that is a monocle / targeting computer over the right eye for use with the gun arm (it was included in the Build Better Bricks instructions) that I'm still considering trying to use. You also may have noticed, the model is incomplete in places - some things just don't lineup properly in LDD like they do in real life. When fully assembled IRL, it should look much better though. Here is the Brass Automaton's laser gun... probably not going to build this, but I MIGHT place it on a tank or something. This is what I've found so far for this model.... 100 parts down, about 650 left to go. Comments Questions, Complaints are welcome!

  7. I built a new ride on vehicle for Brick 2015 at London Excel. It was super popular and I am so tired now (3 day event, 20,000 + people) Uses 10 NTX's 22 motors, rotacaster 125mm wheels! Made in 5 evenings powered by RedBull
  8. I've been on a steampunk kick recently... here are the fruits of my digital labors. The building's a WIP in the real world, while the rest will come later. From a WHAM product brochure (circa late 1909): "Here at WHAM (Wayne Highly Advanced Mechanisms) we always have our eyes on the horizon of the future. From our humble beginnings designing our first line of industrial hyper-reactors, to our more recent ideas of regular rockets to the moon, we here at WHAM are always striving to make our world - and beyond - a better place for us, our children, and so on out into the great unknown of the distant future. I should know, because as son of founder of WHAM, Dr. Lucius Wayne, I, Floyd Wayne am here for YOU. Don't believe me? You can see inside this brochure of our upcoming products for 1910 and decide for yourself. If you have any questions or requests for specific machines, please write to our Marketing and Public Relations department as shown on the back page and I'll see your special needs are filled. Remember: Don't buy a scam, buy a WHAM!" Here are the models I've worked on / revised: the giant robot, frog translator chair, laboratory building, automobile, and personal rocket. Because why should you not have a steam-powered mobile translator device for your highly intelligent pet Frog? Oh, and the inventor of this and much more is Lord Floyd Wayne, an eccentric Victorian inventor with whom failure is not an option. (In case anyone couldn't tell I was listening to Pink Floyd songs while creating these as that's where the inventor's first name came from. Oh, and as a fun note, the frog's chair actually began life as Davros' (creator of the Daleks) chair from Doctor Who. ) This rocket (named the Golden Bullet) is designed for atmospheric travel only, as it does not have a complete canopy nor air tanks for outer space travel. (actually, it was inspired by LEGO Universe' steampunk rocket, but with more recent parts and several recolors) The ship is powered three smaller booster motors and one larger main engine. (The rocket's original inspiration was taken from the first LEGO MMO from 2010, LEGO Universe.) The Golden Bullet comes apart in three sections, with the nose cone, cockpit and engines all being removable from each other. (NOTE: This print is missing from the dark tan 1 x 6 tiles on the driver's compartment.) This giant robot (named the Brass Man) was created by Lord Floyd Wayne as an tool for outer space exploration. Everything the robot sees is transmitted back to it's home base via a hyperspace sub-channel to be recorded and viewed for scientific study. The Brass Man is powered by a experimental hyper-matter reactor, which gives off steam as a safe and harmless by-product. (The robot was originally inspired by @hachiroku's Iron Giant, seen here) The monocle seen here is supposed to have this print. as a sort of targeting computer for weapons and for long-distance magnified viewing. The robot's main weapon is this laser pistol that disintegrates on contact. Only Lord Floyd (it's inventor) knows how it works, as he doesn't want any Earth governments to discover it's dark secrets. This device is only to be used for self-preservation and at that only as a last resort. I plan on using my version of the 2018 Marvel Comics 'infinity War" set 76108 (Sanctum Sanctorum Showdown) for a 1920's-flavored steampunk take on a mad scientist trying to open a time doorway into the beginning of the universe. What he doesn't know is that creatures from before our universe began were destroyed at that moment, so they will come through the doorway to the mid-1920's as a way of sheltering themselves from that fate. Unfortunately, being from that time frame, of course they want to end our Universe so they can live again in peace. As this takes place in my Adventure-verse, Johnny Thunder is tasked with shutting down the doorway before our universe sinks back to before the big bang... and Sam Sinister is trying to use the time / space doorway to achieve vast riches by robbing ancient cultures of their valuables using the Time Window, which draws the attention of the giant robot seen next to the building, leading to a cascading domino-like series of events that have not yet been written. The rear of the building has a ground-floor conservatory. The rearmost window on the bottom floor opens up 90 degrees to allow for figure placement in the conservatory. As a side note, the original Marvel model's exploding walls and drop-floors have been removed. The means from getting from one floor to another is a spiral staircase, and a small skylight has been added to the roof. The inside feature the following: The lower floor has a fireplace with clock on mantle, table with a pizza, and lamp on a side table. The middle floor features a marble bust on a printed safe, and a bed. The dark red thing in the greenish jar is a beating human heart. The upper floor features a desk with some sort of electricity storage machinery, several flasks, two bookcases, time portal computer and microscope. This early-1900's automobile was designed with the tan off-road model in set 76003 (Battle of Smallville) in mind, with a bit of 7628 (Peril in Peru) thrown in for good measure. I was aiming for continuing my Steampunk theme, but ran into a mental roadblock with regards to this car, and about four other prototypes that didn't make he cut. (Sadly, they were accidentally saved over and are now gone) The rear of the model with the spare tire, brake lights, and dual exhaust pipes. ...And that's it for now! Any questions, comments, complaints, and suggestions are always welcome!
  9. Yes, this is a giant F1 car. It's around 1.2 metres long and large enough to sit in. The main features: Pedal-driven rear wheels 8-speed sequential transmission shifted via paddles on steering wheel Rear disk brakes activated by button on steering wheel Electronically-controlled limited-slip differential Rack and pinion steering connected to steering wheel Display showing pedal RPM, gear and wheel speed The car uses MINDSTORMS EV3 to operate the functions. It uses one standard EV3 set's worth of electronics plus an additional Large motor. The gearbox is a 4-speed design expanded with a close-ratio 2-speed (ratios 1:1 and 1:1.2) giving 8 speeds in total. A single motor controls it - each gear requires 180 degrees of rotation. Rotating by 90 degrees puts the gearbox in neutral. A Geneva mechanism is used to control the 4-speed - when the 2-speed goes from the high gear to the low gear, the 4-speed is advanced one gear. This is how it shifts from gear 2 to gear 3. In order to reduce the amount of torque handled by the gearbox, it is geared up very highly. This increases friction and reduces efficiency, but there is no shortage of power (I calculated a human’s power output at over 100 EV3 Large motors!). The limiting factor here is how much torque the parts can handle. The disk brakes use a 49mm tyre as the disk and red rubber pads from the EV3 Expansion set. There are two sets of callipers on each wheel (4 pads per wheel in total) giving huge stopping power. A rather complex linkage allows a single input to control both sets of callipers at the same time. An EV3 Large motor pulls on the beam which activates the brakes via a bell-crank linkage. There are two brake motors so the EV3 can operate them independently - this is important for the next step. The differential is very ruggedly-built to prevent gear slippage or parts breaking. An extra small differential measures the speed difference between the two outputs - this goes to a Medium motor used as a rotation sensor. This allows the percentage differential slip to be calculated - if it exceeds a certain limit, the faster wheel is braked slightly (via the disk brakes) to give more torque to the slower one. The clutch ring is manually operated by a switch under the steering wheel- when engaged, it locks the output to zero, making the differential operate as a solid axle. This is a very similar system to the one used on the million-dollar McLaren P1 hypercar. The wheels are made from tank tread links bent backwards into a tight loop. Not sure if this is considered a "legal" solution, but it works very well. The front wheels have 42 links and the rears have 48. The rear wheels have very tight spokes in order to allow them to take the massive weight of the driver. The wheels started gaining camber (tilting) and falling off under load, so I added extra support on the other side of the wheel. The beams are set up to be under tension to push the wheel towards the axle and prevent it from falling off. The rear section uses many layers of beams and frames to make it strong enough to withstand the weight of the driver. Extra diagonal beams (the white ones) are added - they are positioned in a perfect 3:4:5 Pythagorean triple to avoid having them under compression or tension. I used a Warren truss for the central structure - that bit is virtually indestructible. The front section doesn’t look very strong, but the extra vertical beams allow it to withstand plenty of load. The chassis is very sturdy, but with a driver on board, it tends to bend quite a bit and suffers from some serious body roll issues. The steering uses a rack-and-pinion system with just over half a turn from lock-to-lock. This is similar to the steering ratio used on F1 cars. Two large custom-built universal joints are used for the steering shaft. The shaft is reinforced to prevent torsion - even a little twisting would result in inaccurate, floppy steering. The steering wheel is made to look like an F1 wheel. The two rear paddles are for the gears - right for shifting up, left for down. The front left paddle activates neutral gear when held - as soon as it is released, the transmission returns to the last gear selected. The front right paddle activates both brakes simultaneously. Each paddle presses a button on the EV3 infrared remote which is in the middle of the steering wheel. Its signal shines through the turntable and is captured by the IR receiver on the other side. This allows signals from the steering wheel to reach the EV3 brick wirelessly. The paddles have a very short throw and a crisp feel - they’re one of my favourite parts of the car. The car has a full display with features like an RPM bar and wheel speed shown (since the wheels have very little grip and are liable to doing burnouts, actual speed will be quite different). The gear number is also shown. The RPM is measured by a touch sensor and a cam connected to the pedals. The cam bumps the touch sensor every 1/7th turn of the pedals. I initially tried to use a Colour sensor to detect the black chain links against the greys but the difference in reflected light was insufficient for it to be reliable. Strength-wise, the chassis can easily deal with 20kg on the seat. Perhaps it would be ideal for a 6-year-old gearhead. Unfortunately, I'm a lot more than 20kg, so I kind of broke it. Here's the aftermath: Here's a video of me explaining and demonstrating the features of the car. You can also skip to 10:56 to see me try out the car... [All music is composed by me. My F1 V10 impression is not edited in any way!] In the end, I think it was a successful experiment. I intended this MOC to be a testbed for various ideas I had, and you might possibly see a scaled-down version of some of the mechanisms (such as the differential) in a normal-sized car of mine in the future. After all, that's why real-life car manufacturers build concepts and sell low-volume cars at a loss. If it wasn't for that, we wouldn't have the Bugatti Veyron, Pagani Zonda R, Lexus LFA and other amazing machines.
  10. Hi everyone! Hopefully, this is ok to post here as I'm not really sure where else I'd post it. So recently, I had some time to build and I decided I'd build something ridiculous and absolutely absurd. So here it is: My basic idea was that it is a mobile base made for a few people after an apocalypse or something. Made from nearly 1250 pieces, it features a full interior living space for 2, crow's nest with a machine gun turret, 2 giant propeller engines, and the theoretical ability to float (Since this model is only in LDD, I have no idea if the boat hulls making up the pontoons would be able to hold the weight of the plane or not). Another view of the plane. Another goal of this build was to try and use specialized pieces in odd new ways. For example, using a helicopter blade and fence parts as wing detail. A closer look at the crow's nest. The door and ladder to get in and out, which is mirrored on either side. The small kitchen and dining area. There is also small storage areas with boxes and a chest. There is also a small bedroom in the back with bunk beds. I think my favorite part to build was the cockpit. It just has so many buttons and things to do in, plus it gives the plane it's unique dual windscreen look. I know it isn't perfect or stable, but it was really fun to build. I think it will go down as one of the most bizarre builds I've ever done. If you would like the LDD file, let me know. Thanks for looking!
  11. So I finally decided to make another MOC (well kinda a MOC) and this time it's something that I think is really fun cause there's a ton of possibilities for more stuff to be added to it. Clash Royale! Here's some pics: And I also made it modular, so you can have different arenas, just like the game! To demonstrate, I built an Arena 7 build, Frozen Peak: What do you guys think? I think I'm finally getting the hang of building techniques, although I know I've got a long way to go! I put it on Lego Ideas, as well, if you want to support it! The link is here.
  12. The Black Spire calls for reinforcements. The gears of war are finally put in motion and the terrible, most devastating fate of the Darklands takes its course. While the armies of Historica march to Nocturnus, a single colossus comes down the northern Rakath at the border to Mitgardia; the giant seeks neither glory nor riches, the pure lust for destruction and chaos makes him leaving his home in the mountains and entering the vale. Where he plagues the land, he erases villages. He devours the cattle and leaves nothing but desolation and death.

See the previous tales: Wyndor's Saga: Chapter 1 -What Has Past- Chapter 2 -What Has Past- Chapter 3 The Green Dragon Inn Bustle at Treacleheim At the Gates of Budd-apest Dragon-Forged Blade in Treacleheim Charlemagne's Residence Dragon Taming Stuck in a sack, Charlemagne, Hildegard, Morpheus and Balthazar found it difficult to breath let alone move. They felt themselves being carried over a great distance, but they didn’t know where they were headed. They had been snatched one-by-one by a giant and unceremoniously stuffed into the giant’s bag. Certainly not the smartest creature around, what the giant lacked in brains it made up for in size.

  15. On the Island of Okoto, a new breed of rahkshi has been born: rahkshi that no longer have the need for a kraata to control them, now they are sentient. After makuta fell into a deep slumber, his consciousness contacted the strongest rahkshi on Okoto: Marahk, giant Rahkshi of Density Control. With perfect control over his powers, Mahrak is already a force to be reckoned with, he now commands an enormous army of rahkshi that threaten to overrun the Island of Okoto, but who can stop them? 16. Well, it's certainly about time I made a work in progress thread for this monstrosity. A while ago, I decided that I wanted to build a 9 axle mobile crane, similar to a Terex AC 1000, with all of the features. I chose the crane for several reasons, including: -The fact that it has star formation outriggers, rather than telescopic ones, which would be easier to make strong. - The Sideways Superlift, or SSL. On the real crane, it is used to maintain tension on the boom, allowing the crane to lift heavier loads. A problem with many Lego cranes is that the booms sag, something I hope this will remedy. -The sheer size of the thing gives more room for including functions, like steering and outriggers. (more on that later) As a model, I want to be able to have: Fully remote control drive and steering Swapable steering modes, from normal to crab steer Automatically deploying outriggers, using only one channel Full crane functions, winch, luff, slew, and boom extension. SSL, to maintain tension on boom Minimum amount of parts to be fitted by hand, instead having everything attached. Lights A red and black Mammoet inspired livery Be able to lift 42009 at minimum radius. Now, with those goals in mind, I made a prototype boom: The colors are awful, but it was a good proof of concept. It weighed 2954 [2366 in revised version.] grams, extended to 263 centimeters long, and was 105 cm retracted. I say was because I took this apart and made version two, which sadly hasn't been photographed yet. This version of the boom uses an XL motor for extension of the first section, operating through a very long drive shaft, a reinforced bevel gear box, and then a worm gear to 40z gear setup. The second section has 2 slaved M motors for power, which operates through a nightmarishly complex gear train, and extends the 3rd and 4th sections together, via a rope system. The SSL spreader mechanism was just as bad, having to operate through a spline shaft. This version had a number of problems, including drivetrains that were needlessly complex, and it weight too much. The new version is lighter and simpler. The boom head. The reel on the side is one of two that operate the 4th boom section, through the pulley system described here: Jennifer Clark also describes this on her site, and it is used in 8421 and 42009. However, I had to actually use string reels, because nothing else was long enough. This is actually my 5th or sixth try at this, because initially I had a motor at each section, but when that proved too complex, I employed this solution. Another snag I hit was getting the 3rd section to extend. I was for a time using a custom gear rack made out of pins, but that ultimately proved to be too unreliable, so I went through my boxes of stuff, and got enough gear racks to make it work. Moving on, this was one of the easy parts. The base of the boom, with the mechanical cylinders that would have elevated it, and the XL motor that extends one of the sections. The LA brackets carry the gears that would have driven the SSL from motors in the superstructure. The SSL The above picture shows the extension mechanism, with 2 u joints to make an awkward connection, and the SSL mechanism. The SSL would have been elevated by a linear actuator, then spread by two small ones. The spreader actuators are driven through a worm gear, which is free to slide along the red 12L axle, maintaining connection to the rest of the drive train at all times. However, this mechanism is over complex and flimsy, meaning that it will receive a redesign. And now, for the pictures of this boom fully extended: So far, the boom is mostly complete, and I have prototypes for most sub systems, so this should be great once finished. Progress Edit: I have made some progress on this project, namely working out some of the stuff involved with the outriggers. The below picture is a mockup of the crane on the turntable, with all the wheels in their correct locations. The lime beams in the foreground are my width guide for when I'm building axles. The crane is going to be about 23 studs wide when complete. Most of the outrigger is figured out, but now my real challenge is figuring out how to integrate the superstructure and the lifting cylinders. Below is a picture of the outrigger mechanism as it is complete right now. More Progress: I have built most of the superstructure that holds the boom. It is made with some Znap truss pieces, and is quite strong. Also shown is the chain drive, which switches on a set of recievers in the superstructure. The winches and all that will go behind this unit, on a piece that is detachable, for ease of transport. Slowly, but surely, this project is coming along. Be patient.

    Human- sized arm

So i took apart all my creations and used their pieces and my spares to make this giant, well human- sized arm that goes all the way up to the shoulder and heres the link, and yea i know my old pics are there too, but just pay attantion to the pics of the arm. http://www.flickr.com/photos/96238326@N04/8989130874/in/photostream/
