    UK Sales

Just been to Smyths Toys. They have a lot of 20% off, but if you have a TRU gold card and surrender that, they will take a further 20% off! Just got a 75179 for £45 and a 42078 Mack for £89. Bargain.
  2. And I thought Sariel's video was actually way better than that documentary. He has shown far more about the manufacturing process than that ever did. Thanks for sharing.
  3. Since this thread has been revived, I thought I might as well add to it... Since all the Porsche's had sold out, I bought a complete 813 model off of eBay last night and I must say it is pretty awesome. Chap selling the model was not doing it for profit, so morally OK I think. Arrived ready built, so I'll have to rip it apart and start again so I can really appreciate the mechanism, fill the bed in, and replace the few minor colour substitutions. It was my first experience of the sbrick too. They aren't half clever! So much better than the IR controllers. Still need to figure out to make a proper scheme for it though. Thanks Madoca for putting the designs out there, it is awesome. There is so much pulling power in the low range, my 4yr old daughter was tractor pulling all sorts of things round the floor from Hogwarts to Elsa's castle.
  4. The 3 for price of 2 is available in the actual stores until close of Tuesday. Wouldn't have known they were available early without the other posters, so thank you. I picked up 3 today... seemed a bargain and hopefully a few parts for any MOCs that come up in the near future. The difficulty is finding a store with that many, when you can't search online. Need to go instore and look at stock levels at customer services who were really really helpful.
  5. Thank you both for the heads up. It is on 3 for 2 until tomorrow aswell!
  6. Hans: Tipper Truck and Plant Trailer Load Loader Artic Truck Nico71: Unimog V2. Brick forge.de: Mercedes Actros tipper FSB: Wheeled excavator. Jurgens: Backhoe Ultimate 8043 Jaap's: Land Rover Defender. Currently building Grazi tow truck and Thirdwigg's spitfire. Blimey, I did realise quite how many I'd done. Thank you to all those folks that share their designs!

What did you get for Christmas?

One was of eBay I think, the other was the cheapest one on Bricklink at the time. Virtually no change from £400 for the pair. Was not really worried about boxes / completeness, since they'll be going in to the tow truck. Bit pricey I know, but the 5571 is one of the last of the larger models I have missing from my childhood. Just the space shuttle and the black control centre to go at some point.

What did you get for Christmas?

Batman 3, 2x5571 to start off the Grazi Tow Truck build and 400 odd plastic Chinese takeaway cartons so that I can finally sort out my parts in to something logical. Should keep me out of trouble for a few days.
  9. Reminds me of a life boat tractor. Looks cool anyways.
  10. I think it is a great model, but for me, it would have been perfect if the spec-lift could have pivoted at the head. The lack of movement in the head of the spec-lift of the big black tow truck 8285 was also a mistake, one of the main reasons I think the 8285 is way over-rated. This problem reduces the playability for me. It will be a mod I'll try to incorporate I think. The 8462 got it totally right!
  11. I have the 10x4 Truck & trailer, with the all pneumatic backhoe strapped by lego chains on my desk at work. Always get good comments from people when they come in to the office. Really elegant and sturdy model, with all the functions correctly enngineered for the size with no sag or droop. I can't wait to see if Han offers us any thing later this year.
  12. Don't forget one of the most efficent uses of the rubber band is to twist it, not to stretch it, if that makes sense. We once had a how far can you get an elastic band powered vehicle to run competition. The most a catapult type vehicle ran was 15m. A twisted band ran +70m.
  13. I've just finshed the model. It is a cracking piece of design. Especially the use of the panalling on the tipper, it looks great along side the crane truck. The lifting 3rd axle is also really clever. I now can't wait for the nooteboom drawbraw trailer to be released. And then, looking ahead, I reckon the remote controlled excavator will just fit on the trailer with an appropriate amount of overhang of the tracks. Will need to look whether the boom will fit between the ramps when loaded. Thank's again Han for sharing such quality work. In response on which sets to get, I have every major technic set since 1980, and still needed to spend $40 on bricklink to get the extra parts. A starter maybe the Cherry Picker, the Dump Truck, the crane truck and bulldozer, but you will still need to purchase the pneumatics. As blackbird says, there is a considerable effort to just aquire the parts. The BrickStore software on this site http://www.brickforge.de/ is really useful is you have an MLcad model and want to import it in to bricklink wanted list. (Note with Han's model, it works best if you remove the pneumatic tubing). Plus there is a nice actros to build on there too. I think that cost me about $100 in extra parts!
  14. http://www.designer-han.nl/lego/index.htm There are some cracking models on here obviously. I can't wait for the new tipper instructions... although I'm sure I'll need to get a couple of extra parts.
  15. There was a gear box aswell though that you could add straight on to it. I liked the yellow crane that used the flex-system for steering. Quite functional without using many parts.
