[HELP] Feasibility of a Wire Tram
Dreadredbeard posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi everyone, I recently got back into Technic and I wanted to look into making a tram system similar to a toy I had as a child: The system ran on a cable very similar to what you load into a gardening edging tool (weed-wacker), and had tracks that allowed it to change angles. My thought is to use the same type of cable, and maybe use one of these: with some sort of connection to a motor and battery box hanging below. Couple concerns: How could I make this go around corners if I try to do this with 100% lego? Am I going to have issues with the wheel slipping on the line? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! -

Everytime I see a build with the buggy motors I get sad that they are ~$50/ea in the USA :( I would love to build a 2 speed rock buggy with 4 of them.- 63 replies

This is INSANE! I can't even imagine trying to build anything of this magnitude.... Do you have a drawing or rendering of the final idea of what you are building? -

I've actually never done anything with the mindstorms before, It's one of those things I always wanted to try but couldn't stomach spending $300 for a 600 piece set before. But after spending the last couple years with exclusively Technic it seems like the next logical move. Thank you for the welcome! -

I can't wait to be able to afford these high end technic sets again... My wishlist right now is the EV3 followed by the mobile crane... soon I suppose! -

Indeed, I think I'm going to try a trailing arm independent suspension like that. -

Ultimate Rock Crawler course. (Ideas are welcome)

Not a "drive through" obstacle like your map, but in the actual 4x4 world they have RTI ramps (Ramp Travel Index) to measure total travel distance of the front and rear suspension combined.- 103 replies

Trophy Truck Project

I think a trophy truck is my next project as well. I think 2wd is fine with a selectable diff locker in the rear.
