About Me

Hmm... About me, what a boring topic...

Let's see, I like to work with my hands; I've written four novels and a filing cabinet full of short stories. I used to write and draw a daily comic strip, and have produced a couple animated shorts. I'm a fan of Sci-Fi and Fantasy across all media. Years ago I designed, wrote and marketed a couple computer games but now don't even own a game console anymore.

At a young age, my dad taught me carpentry and trained me to be an electrician (like him); I went on to get degrees in electrical engineering, computer engineering and a PHD in computer science. Professionally, I've worn many hats including Graphic Designer, EMT, Computer Operator, Roofer, Movie Theatre Projectionist, Engineer, Security Guard, Strategic Planner, University Professor, and the catch all 'Consultant'. In my younger days, I pursued whatever opportunities I could find to be involved with theatre and film, appearing on stage in minor (forgettable) productions, as a movie extra, and filling all manner of roles behind the stage in make-up, wardrobe, lighting, set-design and other such 'out of the limelight' positions.

I've been a lifelong fan of Lego, though as a child money was tight and my collection was modest at best. After university, things changed and while most of my friends were spending their newfound incomes on club scenes, alcohol, ski trips and other 20-somethings' vices, I jumped back into Lego head first and have been making up to childhood "Lego-envy" in a big way. Fortunately I have a very understanding spouse who, while not interested in Lego herself, indulges (and occasionally encourages) my hobby.

I have a fondness for higher end kits that probably began with things like the Technic Space Shuttle in '96 and the Statue of Liberty a few years later. Some of my favorite themes include Technic, Trains, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Architecture, Sculptures and Castle (in its various incarnations). I also like ships (specifically wind powered, being a sailor myself) and have picked up the PoTC offerings, though the rest of that particular line does little for me. I never really 'got' the whole Bionical thing, but that's okay, I just figured I wasn't the target demographic - there were plenty of other kits to keep me busy.

If you've made it this far, you must be either genuinely curious, or not easily bored. :sweet: In any case, thanks for stopping by.
