Awesome ballasting idea kyphur! This looks great and will be even better sprinkled with varying color round plates. How will you do the curves though?

Kyphur, your layout is looking awesome. I can't wait to see the additions of the Farm and Grand Emporium. Congrats on adding them. I'm interested in learning more about your ballasting design. I'd like to add baseplates and ballasting to my layout, but I don't think I know enough about ballasting to begin. The little info I've found on the subject is kinda tough to decipher. How do you determine how many 1x1 plates you need to even begin ballasting? I love the look of the layouts with ballasting and lots of landscaping.

WOW! Your tan version looks so much more realistic than the yellow one. And the work you did on the front with the steps is awesome. Please post pictures of the real one when you get it built. Great job!

Just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself. I've just recently found that I'm interested in Lego and now trains too. In October, we took a trip to Chicago, where we happened upon the Lego Store. We went in just to look, but our daughters, who had never had Lego before, both fell in love and all they wanted for Christmas was Lego. On this same trip, we had our very first train ride, which was also great fun. Since October, we have collected a lot of Lego sets, and after putting together the Toy Story train and the Hogwarts Express, I wanted a motorized train. Two weeks ago, we got 7939 Yellow Cargo Train, and so it begins... Now I'm upset that I missed the Emerald Night. I will definitely grab one if I can find one at a reasonable price, but from the looks of eBay and Bricklink, that's not likely. Looking at ordering power functions for the Hogwarts Express.
