    First Set You Couldn't Buy

The first set I distinctly remember REALLY wanting, yet knowing I would never have, was 10185 - Green Grocer. I was in grad school at the time, and visited the newly opened Lego store in my mall, and just couldn't believe how awesome Lego had gotten since my childhood. It was at a point in my life where it was a choice between buying the set or buying groceries for the next month, so... sadly I passed and it retired before I ever had income to even consider getting it. I've been slowly Bricklinking it, though, so one day my dream will come to fruition, even if slightly modified. As as a kid, I think my parents must have hidden the catalogs from us, because I don't remember ever wanting specific sets. But between the three of us (all KFOLs turned AFOLs now in our 30s), we always got most of a wave between birthdays and Christmas, and my mom was big into auctions (before people knew Lego was valuable) and regularly supplemented our stash with cheap buys of bulk loose pieces. So yes, I was Lego previliged as a child.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

The 4/1 release date is throwing me. Unless April Fools day isn't a thing in Denmark and it's just a coincidence? The fact that they acknowledge the 10th anniversary and call it the "ultimate" modular is getting my hopes up..... so much that when I saw the RRP (and naively assumed it was in USD), I started thinking of what I'll need to sell to get a $2,700 set edit:...... aaaaand I just realized that if the RRP is in kroner, the date is proboably also in DD/MM/YY format. D'oh

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I have heard (third hand, originally from someone who claims to have seen the new lineup), that it will be a bakery + dentists office. This was definitely about one of the Creator sets (the townhouse was also mentioned), but the implication was that this was the modular, specifically. No idea how legit it is, or if it would be one building with two functions (a la bank + laundromat), or two buildings (a la Pet Shop). No matter what it ends up being, I can't wait to see it.

    What Modular Should I Buy?

Like other have said, I'd start with the Pet Shop. It's right on the cusp of retirement, and if you do end up collecting the whole series later, you'll kick yourself if you have to pay a premium for something you could have gotten at MSRP. Plus it's an easy build to start off in Modulars, and you get two buildings out of it. It's also good for parts. Next I would focus on other available modulars, and prioritize the older ones (you'll have to decide if you really want to collect them all or just get the ones you like). For the actual build, my favorite of those is Parisian Restaurant. Either way you can't go wrong... The modulars are great!
  6. I love it! So many great features, but my personal favorite is the lady's wide-legged trousers ... Such a cool (& period-appropriate!) touch

    [MOC] A little red barn

Thanks everyone! Good point about the pigs - maybe less greenery and more mud? :-)

    [MOC] A little red barn

Hi all! Ive long admired all of your amazing MOC work on this forum, but we've all go to start somewhere ... this is the beginning :-) I wanted to share with you my latest creation - a little red barn. I was inspired by the Series 15 CMF - Farmer w/ pig, because I needed a place for all of the pigs I was amassing. This barn has the traditional roof shape, red exterior, sliding barn doors, and is completed by a small barnyard and chicken coop out back for the animals. All positive feedback constructive criticism, or tips for next time are welcome. More pictures in my Flickr album, if interested As a side note -- how do people get images in the post? I'd prefer to embed from outside host, so I don't have re-size them all to make them fit, but that seems to be the only option?
  9. I dont have a firm budget (though maybe I should...). I spend maybe $150/mo in hobby / "fun money", a lot of which goes to Lego. Big set purchases (>$100) tend to be planned and budgeted for, but stuff in the <$25 range isn't really counted - they're more like impulse purchases (and a lot of these are for my toddler son, too, so I don't count them). Even with one or two big-$ buys a year (with Christmas money, during a double points, etc), most of my Lego spend tends to come in lots of frequent little spends... Picking up polybags, stopping into Bricks & Minifigs, eBay orders here and there. Just slowly accumulating pieces that I want.
