Star Wars Episode 8, The Last Jedi discussion. **SPOILERS**
TheAmazingDarkKnight replied to Stash2Sixx's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Finally, someone gets it. All the Star Wars films have had a bit of humor / cheesy lines, but it's always depended on when the film released. Empire is actually a lot more comedic than I recall, but it's very subtle; reflecting the time it was released. I will agree, however, the very first joke fell flat. So much so, I was actually concerned it was going to be too humorous, and not take things seriously as I was hoping. Thankfully, the rest of the movie happened and my concerns were alleviated. The film needed some times to lighten the mood. There's literally a scene where the heroine shanks two people; gotta balance the darkness with some light. -
The LEGO Batman Movie Set/CMF Rumors & Discussion
TheAmazingDarkKnight replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Licensed
I'm also certain the movie's performance in the box office didn't help either. Domestically, the movie was very successful; but not The Lego Movie successful and in Foreign areas it made even less. That's not to say TLBM performed terribly, in fact, quite the opposite. But, that's not to say it was great either (same can be said the for the sets). In contrast to the Lego movie, which had a budget of $60 million, The Lego Batman movie's budget increased by $20 million (Not including promotion for either film.) And, of course, the Lego movie still performed better - making it's total profits smother the Lego Batman movie. If that weren't enough, here's another issue: the demographic. We've repeated the word "kids" numerous times...but how many little girls would actually go see a boy's batman movie? Let alone purchase a wave of sets dedicated to boys. Hate to stereotype, but think about it. It's not that uncommon that a girl would prefer to see another movie at that time, instead of some movie her brother would want to see. Despite the legacy of Batman and the film's heavy marketing, Batman just isn't as accessible as the Lego brand itself. The fact that girls could see the Lego movie was another reason the sets flew off the shelves, everyone wanted a piece of that movie. Literally. Just my two cents. -

Out of curiosity, would you say it's worth its full retail price? Or wait till a discount of, say, $99.99?- 3020 replies

LEGO Ninjago Movie Videogame
TheAmazingDarkKnight replied to Ashnflash's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
Seeing as how this game will tie into the movie, similar to the previous The Lego Movie game, I don't expect any innovation. Maybe some new puzzle gimmicks, but that'll probably be the extent of the new content. Movie tie-ins are always rushed, but I don't think the game will be bad. Just more of the same. -

After everything we've seen thus far, I really don't think getting your hopes up for anything extraordinary out of these sets is a good idea. Pray for the best everyone, but bridle your expectations. Otherwise, these forums are just destined to be riddled with more disappointment.- 3020 replies

DC Superheroes 2017 - Set Discussion
TheAmazingDarkKnight replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I think the sets will be fine. From my perspective, making these sets great is a requirement. Given the controversy behind the DCEU, Lego can't solely rely on the property to sell itself. Spider-Man / GOTG V.2 sets on the other hand, absolutely. Those properties are way too popular with consumers that Lego doesn't really have to put as much exertion into them, because they'll be purchased regardless if the builds are decent, or even if the films they're based on aren't well received. (Fat chance of that though) Justice League on the other hand, at least I would assume, is very sketchy territory for investors. If it flops, there's no way casual consumers would purchase garbage builds with decent minifigures. They'll put their money towards something else. Look at prior movie sets from Lego, particularly the one's that only get one wave of sets. Lone Ranger comes to mind, as those sets were really awesome. The movie not so much, but Lego put a lot of resources into those sets because they had no idea if the movie would be that good where the sets would sell themselves. Even GOTG 1 sets were way more masterfully crafted than the latest ones; Lego just didn't know if their sets would sell if the builds themselves were bland. I suppose it's just a matter of being comfortable with the particular theme, something Lego clearly exercises with Marvel. It's such a household franchise that they probably don't really care as much. But that's something they cannot afford when it comes to this Justice League movie. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if BvS took a lot of manufactures by storm, as a title and concept like that would surely make money. But, it probably wasn't what they anticipated or hoped even to sell. I'm expecting high quality stuff in order for the sets to stand on their own.- 3020 replies

The LEGO Batman Movie Set/CMF Rumors & Discussion
TheAmazingDarkKnight replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Licensed
While I appreciate all the unique variants, I would really love a Beyond suit too...Considering it's in the trailers, it'd be nice to have something that's practical alongside the goof suits. Summer wave I can only hope. -

The LEGO Batman Movie Set/CMF Rumors & Discussion
TheAmazingDarkKnight replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Licensed
Apparently, Target's in OH are running a special 20% off on all existing sets. Anyone per chance know if this sale is applicable to the four released Batman sets? Given that they're not even supposed to properly be released, I highly doubt it. I'm heading up their tomorrow to face the truth. If it's true I'll contemplate pulling the trigger on the more "costly" ones. But if anyone has any knowledge about the deal, I'd very much appreciate it. -

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
TheAmazingDarkKnight replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I highly doubt Lego would request the locking of a thread purely based on criticism. It's probably just because there were a plethora amount of comments dedicated solely towards pictures that were unlicensed by Lego themselves. Lego could probably careless about what owners of the previous set think regarding the "new" model. -
Rearranged Lego Death Star Scenes
TheAmazingDarkKnight replied to vinchente000's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Coincidentally, I also started to clean off my Deathstar. I suppose the anticipation for seeing the same model in a new box motivated me to do so. Anyways, I must say you managed to do a much better clean up job than I did; still got some dust lurking on the edges of studs. Regarding the photographs, I love the simplistic look, reminds me of when I first got the set and would pose the minifigs in a similar fashion- 9 replies

Marvel Superheroes 2017 - Set Discussion
TheAmazingDarkKnight replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
For sure, but I don't necessarily think that's the issue. Lego has already proven they can loophole their way around getting what could be regarded as "not kid friendly" characters into sets. Take a look at Suicide Squad from DC, they managed to make a set featuring many of the characters who appear in the upcoming movie, but didn't tie the set into the movie itself. (Personally I don't think that's an issue, or that SS is pushing the "kid friendly" but there are some that would argue that). What I'm saying is if Lego can create a set featuring "darker" characters into a normal comic based set, surely they could sneak some Defenders characters into Comic based Marvel sets.- 5809 replies

At this point I feel getting a Coulson figure was so long overdue to the point that I could really care less to get one. 2-4 years earlier and I would be on board, but now I would much rather have another Comic/TV themed character (DareDevil, Jessica Jones, Punisher, Zemo etc.).- 5809 replies
