jodawill Posted August 16, 2014 Who remembers this? The first person able to say where this is from wins my respect.
gads Posted August 16, 2014 I remember the sets as I'm a proud owner of the western collection :D About the movie, I haven't a clue of what is it...
Debrick Posted August 16, 2014 Not 100% sure where it came from but i had this as a screen saver back in the day. Believe it was aquired from lego.com.
TheLegoDr Posted August 16, 2014 Stop motion sure has changed over the years. Interesting watch. I've never seen that before.
m0dulo Posted August 16, 2014 Given the year and quality of experience, I'm guessing a super-mega-hyper-interactive CD-ROM! (ridiculous overenthusiastic reply only provided to match the hype of the era)
Lind Whisperer Posted August 16, 2014 (edited) I'm afraid that this is the first time that I've seen this, but thank you very much for bringing this to all of our attentions! This commercial is especially worth noting in that it features no less than three undiscovered "official" combinations of minifigures for the Western theme! I've assembled a list of them by part, with placeholder names: Clumsy Bandit: http://www.bricklink...Item.asp?P=3629 - Brown This is an interesting head choice, as it was always(until now) thought of as only having been used for "good guys", http://www.bricklink....asp?P=3626bp62 - Yellow The photo makes it look brown, but the video clearly shows that it's actually Black: http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=30133 - Black It was hard to determine between this and the Cowboy Red Shirt piece, but the front view at 0:33 suggests that it's this one: http://www.bricklink...sp?P=973px56c01 - Red http://www.bricklink...em.asp?P=970c00 - Black Skull Bandit: http://www.bricklink...Item.asp?P=3878 - Black I'm guessing that the rather unique use of the classic skull piece is to suggest a mask? I hope? http://www.bricklink...sp?P=3626bpb001 - White http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=30133 - Black http://www.bricklink...sp?P=973px54c01 - Black http://www.bricklink...em.asp?P=970c00 - Black Stagecoach Driver II: http://www.bricklink...Item.asp?P=3629 - White http://www.bricklink...sp?P=3626bpb025 - Yellow http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=30133 - White http://www.bricklink...sp?P=973px53c01 - Red http://www.bricklink...em.asp?P=970c00 - Blue It's surprisingly poor animation, even for back then. LEGO was capable of some very high quality animation for commercials. There was an even better example, that I can't find, but here's an example of what they could do: Even so, it's a lovely find, and many thanks for sharing it! EDIT: It looks like we won't be seeing too much animation from LEGO unless it's in a movie. It turns out it's illegal to show toy sets that require construction assembling without showing a pair of hands(scroll down to the bottom). You can still download this screensaver here -> http://www.ultimatesavers.com/index.asp?ID=253 Last night, I installed it in a virtual machine and recorded it with Quicktime. It's surprisingly poor animation, even for back then. LEGO was capable of some very high quality animation for commercials. There was an even better example, that I can't find, but here's an example of what they could do: It's from a screensaver, and the entire file is about 1MB. I think it's pretty impressive for the file size. EDIT: It looks like we won't be seeing too much animation from LEGO unless it's in a movie. It turns out it's illegal to show toy sets that require construction assembling without showing a pair of hands(scroll down to the bottom). That's incredibly stupid. I can't believe that at some point, someone actually thought it would be a good idea to create that law. Edited August 16, 2014 by jodawill
m0dulo Posted August 17, 2014 (edited) That's incredibly stupid. I can't believe that at some point, someone actually thought it would be a good idea to create that law. I agree it is ridiculous. It was probably created in response to a lawsuit because someone bought a set and it didn't magically build itself. I'm not joking. Ever read any of the negative reviews on Amazon? Pick anything, not just LEGO products. Edited August 17, 2014 by m0dulo
