Simpsons Collectable Minifigures aka Series 13 (non-official term)

Recommended Posts

Here is a link to an article confirming Series 13 will be the Simpsons theme.

http://www.nerdly.co...-sets-for-2014/

"There have been plenty of rumours regarding just what we’re going to get from LEGO’s forthcoming The Simpsons licensed range, including a myriad of buildings, characters et al. Well now we have word, from an insider at a special Fox/LEGO event, on just what the LEGO Simpsons range will entail…

LEGO are set to release (much like the Olympic minifigures) a complete wave of blind-bag minifigures (series 13 to be precise), with 16 Simpsons characters to collect – including Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Apu, Chief Wiggum, Moe, Itchy and Scratchy and many more of the show’s iconic characters – which will be launched May 2014.

And despite a list of proposed LEGO sets hitting the likes of Brickset and Bricks & Bloks, we can confirm that the *only* LEGO set to be launched in the first quarter of 2014 in the UK will be the Simpsons House, which is set to be made available direct to consumers (via the LEGO website and LEGO stores) in April 2014.

On top of that, this new LEGO range will also be supported by a special Simpsons LEGO TV episode (much like the LEGO Star Wars specials) in May 2014!"

I'm not sure on the reliablity of the source, but we have seen these rumours floating around.

Personally, I'm not happy with one specific brand taking over the colledctable minifigures. What I always liked about the CMF was the variety and no specific licensed theme.

EDIT (2014 01 08) - Official press release states " The line of LEGO THE SIMPSONS minfigures will launch in May 2014 in all major toy retailers for $3.99 (USD) each. " source: http://brickset.com/news/article/?ID=9575

Are you missing the word 'not' in the first sentence?

I'm unsure if I will like having Series 13 being Simpson's specific. It has been a very very long time since I ever had any interests in the Simpsons. Granted, Series 12 may be single-theme as well if it's tied to the LEGO-movie, but at least it's not a licensed brand and the minifigures will likely be very diverse. On the other hand, if the Simpson's minifigures use the same yellow skin color, then the series would be useful for CMF-compatible body parts (I suspect the heads will be new molds and thus worthless for non-simpson minifigures).

Sorry, edited - I am NOT happy about this. Series 12 being based on the Lego Movie I can live with, but I may have to skip Series 13. I hope this isn't a trend. Maybe The Lego Group has run out of ideas. If that's the case maybe they should retire the CMF series instead.

I'd rather have a normal wave but maybe have these as a side line like the Olympic minifigs were.

Hope specialised series won't be the norm from series 12, I like the variety of the sets

I wonder who this series will appeal to. Kids don't really watch the Simpsons much, especially Lego aged kids. AFOLs seem to prefer variety in a series to contribute to their special interests. This series seems like it would only appeal to hardcore fans of Lego and the Simpsons, a relatively small demographic.

I wish this would have been a special series like the Olympics series instead of wasting a standard CMF series release.

I couldn't agree more. :cry_sad:

That small demographic would include me so I'm happy...

Inevitably ending up in the bargain basket. More money saved for me though, I expect to buy a lot of S12 and 14.

This seems like a very strange and unwise move on LEGOs part. This series is clearly going to have a lot less sales than previous series. People who aren't fans of the Simpsons probably aren't going to buy it, especially people who normally only buy a few figs anyway. I'm thinking I might get a set of them just so I'll still have a complete collection of the numbered series, but even then I won't be getting any extras (and I normally get a lot of extras). In fact even people who enjoy the Simpsons would likely only get one or two of each figure. There is zero potential for army building. Oh well, at least I'll save some money. Looking forward to S12 and S14 though.

I thought CMF series is suppose to include minifigs that are not included in any other LEGO sets. But with this Simpsons crap, they're breaking the policy. Very lame, because they're gonna have these Simpsons sets, and then a whole CMF series with just Simpsons minifigs. Do not want!

I agree with you 100%. While the lego CMF series has had a wonderful run, I am unable to see the line continuing for much longer. The movie line, simpsons, and MMORPG seem to almost indicating that they are running out of ideas or they are trying to revive the line since those seem like they'd be special edition bags instead of main game bags..

I'd like to see images of the upcoming movie and Simpsons minifigs before I make a decision. But if TLG is going to moving more towards running a theme for each season from here on in then it looks like will stop collecting at season 11.

I agree with what most people have said previously in that it should be a side theme like the Olympic's minifigs.

I am looking forward to LEGO Simpsons. I love the CMF line. I hate that the Simpsons is taking over an official CMF release. I am not too pleased with the Lego movie hijack of the CMF line either but at least it seems like series 12 could wind up fitting in just fine since the movie is full of random characters just like the CMF series. (They may even have been put in the movie specifically for the CMF series) Simpsons, on the other hand, is very specific and kind of ruins the CMF collection for me. I can only hope that series 14 comes with a return to the norm and I could just have this missing black mark on the CMF series where series 13 was supposed to be. I certainly can't see adding Simpsons characters to the display of CMF figures I have been collecting over the years. I welcome Simpsons minifigures, I just wish they would keep them out of the CMF line. To me it's like having a random BTF Delorean in one of the Lord of the Rings sets.

Well if they compare it to the Olympic sets, maybe we STILL stand a chance that they won't replace CMF series 13. If they will replace with Simpsons, Lego will cut off its nose to spite its face, really.

If this is true, the number 13 is really an unlucky one...(

Though I doubt it will have a number, to add it to non'licensed ones. Target audiences are different for Simpsons and simply minifigs, right? So if it will be like team GB there's nothing to worry about, and even if not, everybody can simply say he's a superstitious person not to add the 13th series to the collection and simply waiting for 14th!

If Series 13 truly is the Simpsons, I will set the wave out. But I have no issue with a movie line of CMF or a MMORG line. Both of those seem to have a similar level of representation across the LEGO themes.

One wave of CMF focus on one topic with the exception of Superheroes, I fear would be a disaster. I don't think that even City, Castle, or Pirates can generate the same level of interest as the current line does as collectors from each of those buy these figs. The current CMF has expanded my interested in City and Pirates. Without it, I would have only been a LotR / Kingdoms guy.

Simpsons is too tame for younger minds nowadays I guess... hence why Little Timmy has 'graduated' to playing Call of Duty & GTA5 instead of the good 'ol animated tame toilet humor.

Where does it say this will replace CMF series 13? The British Olympics figures didn't replace a series.

"LEGO are set to release (much like the Olympic minifigures) a complete wave of blind-bag minifigures (series 13 to be precise), with 16 Simpsons characters to collect"

I still can't believe it. It... it just make no sense for me.

1.Blind packed named characters are always a bad idea because you don't need multiples of them.

2. Even if some torsos will be usefull (yellow!) they probablywill be made into Simpsons style and can't have hard time to fit in other themes.

3. In many coutries Simpsons are not very popular and people will simply not care about them.

4. Children have no idea what Simpsons are. I recal series was very popular in the past but now?

So why sell something that will fail worldwide and not make a series of Superheroes? I know, I know. Licence. :look:

Having some Simpsons characters in lego form sounds good, but I don't think I want to collect all. Some of my favourites from the listed are Homer, Bart and Moe. 9 characters are listed, what do you think the other 7 will be? My guesses:

Mr. Burns, Smithers, Krusty, Sideshow Bob (he would be awesome!), Ned, Skinner, Milhouse, oh and the list is full. But hey, there are only 2 females as I see. Maybe Ms. Krabappel and the twin girls (have to buy 2) but who to replace? Oh, this is so hard, lucky that it is not my decision. :)

I don't know. Didn't TLG say that there will be two series of minifigures based on the Lego movie? I thought series 12 and 13 would be movie characters. If this rumor turns out to be true, well that would be an easy pass for me. I'm not a simpsons fan and have no interest in any minifigures based on them. I'm not sure if I like those experiments TLG is doing with the collectible minifigures.
