Modular Madness: Parking Tower

Hello,

This is my first participation in a contest here. Seeing the high quality of other entries, I do it just for fun :look:

I wanted to make a multi-level parking lot with ramps between the levels. When the contest was launched, I thought it would be a good way to join it.

Due to the contest rules, I had to use a 32x32 basis*, which is a little small for such building. I had to replace the ramps by an elevator.

Actually I used this 16x16 plate: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=30225 + a standard 16x16 and a 16x32, all grouped together for a total of 32x32. That special 16x16 plate looked better for the entrance. I used a similar style on my previous MOC.

I was a little disappointed when I discovered another parking lot posted before mine, but quite different in style. That one is in category 2, I hope that mine is right in category 3 (as it has a size closer to the entries of that category, I thought it would be better). I swear that I didn't take any idea from that other one: the big white-on-blue "P" was already made long before that.

Coming back to mine. Here is a view of the roof from the rear:

The windlass has a large wheel allows to easily operate the elevator manually (but it could be easily removed for a more realistic look). The red small axle is there to block the elevator at a level.

It's modular!

Better view of the elevator, which has wheels for a smooth move along the rails:

Thanks for your visit! :classic:

What do you mean? How I made it?

I used wheels turned by 90° to run vertically along old 80s 12V rails; at the top a pulley (not visible on the pics indeed) and a windlass (well visible on the roof picture); between the two there is a simple thread :classic: (an official Lego one!)

The wheels are:

Excellent work! I like the elevator very much, especially as its functional

Cool that you did it in the Octan color scheme too, the cars are also very nice :classic:

I like this a lot - it's an innovative twist to Category 3. Is that some kind of Technic spoiler you've used above the doors on the ground and top floors?

The fact that you've given each floor a different colour code is a great and realistic detail. And I love the way you've used medium blue 1x1 tiles to give the impression of rounded edges on the P. Clever!

I counted a total of 14 parking lots. That is really good for the space you used.

Although I wouldn't like to park any thing bigger than a very small town car.

This is interesting, unlike other mocs which focus on residential buildings. I like your idea and will buy it over the 4207 garage. Good job man!

Although we had the same Idea, your entry certainly is unique, the Octan colors are a very nice touch. What's the capacity, 15 car spots I count *huh*

What I find most amazing is, besides the elevator, the fact that you even added stairs

Good luck!

Thanks  Good luck to you too

Only 14 spots actually: the ground level has only two (space used for entrance & payment terminal)

At first I wanted to use http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=2046 for the stairs, but it is difficult to fit in a tiny space and I only had two of these (one yellow and one pink).
