Constructable Astromech Droids

The 4x4 hemispherical dome is completely hollow - there's nothing preventing it from rotating, without detachment, on top of the 4x4 round plate. It's not free-spinning, there's friction, but it doesn't have to detach to rotate.

The R5 head can be attached with one of these:

so that it can rotate freely.

I think it's a great third leg and the connection, looks secure enough.

Nevertheless, it's an illegal connection because it stresses the plastic and isn't secure enough for your average kid to play with.

I like this idea. Though, of course, I'm not really a fan of the huge sticker.

I'm the last person that would espouse using stickers, but I guess they have their uses. I'm wondering if some kind of static-cling vinyl would work...

After a little googling...what the? Who's used these: http://www.brickstix.com

When did these get invented?! Cool!

Okay! So, let's use a static-cling decoration for the body sticker. I'm feeling better already.

I think they've been around for a while. I remember seeing them sometime in the middle of last year. Personally, looking at that picture of the German truck on the front page, I think their edges are too evident, (especially on the black minifig's torso) but I guess that's because they're made for kids who aren't going to be applying watersides.
