soundwave_sw Posted November 6, 2011 (edited) V-LF-5F This is my model of a B.C. Ambulance. Commonly found around Vancouver, B.C. Included are lego compatable electric LED lights (lifelites) The cab is six studs wide and the back is 7 studs wide. The frame is a generic 1-ton with dual rear wheels. There are 16 LED lights in total. 8 flashing & 8 non flashing. All decals are from Lego sets. I hope to build another version with functioning doors and perhaps a smoother angled side stripe. I also have a video clip here of the flashing lights - I havnt had a chance to resize the files yet, so if there is a delay in loading please go to: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=488228 or http://www.flickr.com/photos/43769067@N08/sets/72157625254593926/with/6317022154/ to see the full set. danthaman11 Posted November 6, 2011 Very nice ambulance. I'm not familiar with how ambulances look in vancouver so I googled it and yours looks very accurate from the pics. I like the brick work on the red diaganol stripe on the back and the 6 wide cabin, 7 wide back works well. Love all the lights on the vehicle, they look great in your video clip. Look forward to seeing your next version.
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted November 6, 2011 Incredible building technique! I love that red diagonal stripe on the side ...and those lights are simply amazing!
lightningtiger Posted November 6, 2011 Okay, now it's a nice design except the front end wheel arches plus please could you resize your images there is a 800x600 limit on EB.....your's might tick off a moderator ! Impressive only for the LED lighting, for that a huge I say ! Brick On Rescue On 'soundwave_sw' !
rriggs Posted November 6, 2011 Lights are awesome and design is nice but wheels are too small. Cheers Rog
Ralph_S Posted November 6, 2011 I agree with rriggs. It's a nice ambulance, the stripe is excellent, and I love that you've managed to fit lights into it, but the wheels let it down pretty badly. IT would look better with the wheels that LEGO use for most of their city vehicles, or perhaps, given the fact that it gets to be 8 wide (including mudguards) even a slightly bigger size. Cheers, Ralph
soundwave_sw Posted November 7, 2011 Thank you for the feedback so far. I will consider the tips when I work on my second version. I won't be restricted by LED lights and wires the 2nd time around. I did come up with a better prototype using the curved arch for the fwd wheel well but it was not compatable with the lights. Hopefully I can still pull it off. @Lightningtiger pictures have been resized @Ralph aka mad pyhsicist, when i was looking up ideas for my ambulance i did notice your door technique on your version. I really liked it and may incorperate it into my next version.
jackson233 Posted November 7, 2011 Awesome work! They are going to be needed today after the coppers go in and bust some heads clearing out the 'occupy' site!
Big Cam Posted November 7, 2011 My only thing is the ambulance sticker on the good is supposed to be written back wards so that when you see it in your rear view mirror it reads ambulance properly. Otherwise it looks awesome, those lights look great.
HighFlyer Posted November 7, 2011 Brilliant job, I always love to see 7 wide vehicles, and this is no exception!
Mrcool1804 Posted November 7, 2011 I agree about the stripe! Its absolutely perfect! I also agree with Ralph about the wheels. They look out of place. Great job on the body!
Ardelon Posted November 7, 2011 Very nice, especially the stripe (probably the highlight of the build)! And in contrast to lightingtiger, I also like the use of the PoP arches above the front wheels - creative usage of the piece.
fhomess Posted November 7, 2011 My only thing is the ambulance sticker on the good is supposed to be written back wards so that when you see it in your rear view mirror it reads ambulance properly. This always entertains me. I mean really, which person is gonna check his rearview mirror when a large white, lights-flashing, siren blaring truck comes roaring up behind them and think, "You know what, it doesn't say ambulance so he's just gonna have to wait while I mosey on through this intersection." Also, why don't the fire department and police force do this, too?
Ricecracker Posted November 7, 2011 Instantly recognizable as a BC ambulance! I do have to agree, though, that the wheels are way too small.

Also, why don't the fire department and police force do this, too? I was wondering how long it would take for someone to point out the decal. I cut the decal out from the larger Spider Man ambulance set. like fhomess said, what the real decals should say is. "IF YOU CAN READ THIS THEN GET THE ---- OUT OF MY WAY!" peterab Posted November 10, 2011 (edited) This always entertains me. Well as it happens, this sort of happened to me yesterday. I was towing my mowing trailer along through a strip of shops, being followed by a police car. I heard a siren and saw lights, from an ambulance about 200 meters back, but I had to check it wasn't the police car behind me before I worked out what was going on. I pulled over out of the way, just as the police fired up their lights to escort. Had it been the police I would have gone further to a better place to pull over. Since I prioritized getting out of they way I had a crap time getting enough room to back the trailer back out, since nobody would give me any room. Bastards. About ten years ago all our police fire and ambulance vehicles got switched to the same light systems (before police were blue the others red) because more people would pull over for police than for fire and ambulances. Some people are douche bags. Edited November 10, 2011 by peterab

Capn Frank Posted November 10, 2011 Excellent work on this Aparatus! I havnt had a chance to resize the files yet, so if there is a delay in loading please go to: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=488228 or http://www.flickr.com/photos/43769067@N08/sets/72157625254593926/with/6317022154/ to see the full set. In case you don't know, it's kind of a pain, but you could use flickr for the resizing of your pics. Recently, I have been doing this more often to downsize large pics when a photo editor is not available on the computer I am using. Using Mozilla, I go to the Flickr set; click on the photo I want to post, downsize, or whatever; I right-click on the photo and select "Medium 640" or whatever size you want, but 640 is the largest that's 800x600 or less; Right-click on the photo again and select "Copy Image Location" to post the photo down-sized or "Save Image As..." to save the downsized photo. The main thing I find annoying about this is that the name of the photo is lost.
sens1992 Posted November 15, 2011 Nice work on your ambulance! You are bang on, it is exactly like a BC ambulance! Great work.
wokajablocka Posted November 15, 2011 You've done a really good job on the build. I love the paint work with the cheese slope stripes in the sides and the light a re a nice touch to finish it off. Can you get a strcher in the back or is it full of the light function?
Dish90 Posted November 19, 2011 Love the thought behind this and the working LEDs. Really nice touch! :)
soundwave_sw Posted November 21, 2011 You've done a really good job on the build. I love the paint work with the cheese slope stripes in the sides and the light a re a nice touch to finish it off. Can you get a strcher in the back or is it full of the light function? There are 2 light systems both with a 2-AAA battery box which takes up most of the space. The wires also take up some space so there is currently no room for a stretcher. There are smaller power modules avaialble (size of a 2x4 brick) which should allow more room but i don't have any in that size yet. I plan to make another similar sized model without the lights and with working doors and inside detail. Thank you for your comments
NIKITAMILOVIDOV Posted November 22, 2011 Wow! The orange stripes are exiting! How did you do that?
