General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread

But that error was easy to avoid- other Potc's had 1700s union jack... and it seems that we indeed see topless ladies in disney movie- but not very closely :pir_laugh2:

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is a little bit peeved by the historical inaccuracies in the POTC movies. :pirate_sad2:

I'm not sure how the disneys' top-less lady discussion was sparked......uhm..OK , so anyways judging from past license themes that were brand new , when do you think we'll get some pictures?

i was just thinking how TLG can do accurate figures of mermaids if mermaids in move have nothing to cover their breasts :pir_laugh2: movie can show mermaids being underwater and so on but minifig would be hard- will they add seashells or something there then?...just thinking :monkey:

Ah, 'historical inaccuracies'......Hollywood's true calling.....never let real history get in the way of making huge amounts of cash ! :pir-devil:

Also I highly doubt Lego would do a topless torso......I don't think they would like to have soft porn made with minifigs would they.....maybe a figure similar to the Islander's girl from the early days of the Lego pirate theme (late 80's/early 90's).....she had a rack but was covered....to a point.

Keep on going ARRRRRR ! :pir-grin:

I'm still a huge fan of the original pirates that came out in 1989 and was hoping for more sets to go with the ones released in 2008. Not into licensed themes so no pirates for me this year :pir_mad:

I hope the POC theme doesn't last long. Sorry POC fans

Can't wait for the sets.

As for the topless mermaid thing I think a normal fleshy torso with maybe a few details on it - you know, like on the Slave Leia figure, obviously - but of course no breast or anything, then just a new hair piece with hair that covers that entire area? obviously that would work. Not sure if Lego would have that, either. It's obvious she's not naked, but it's also quite obvious that the figure is supposed to represent a topless woman. It could be seen as suggestive and might spark some sort of needless outrage that could drop TLC in some hot water. But we'll see how it goes.

I hope we'll get a Black Pearl, like most everyone does. Some decent ships might give the die-hard classic Pirates fans a reason to enjoy the sets a little anyway and would be lovely.

Skeletons indeed, or a new mold of a large skeleton. I'm just afraid of large pieces. :pir_wacko:

I can't wait to see the Queen, I hope it is probably already one of the best ships ever made.

I don't know if someone has said this but they have cancelled the game with the Spanish sailors in.( It wasn't based on movies anyway)

I don't think the mermaids will be topless with just hair covering them, maybe they'll have seashells over them or something ocean related, like starfish. :pir_laugh2: LEGO could probably take a creative liberty if it were to make things appropriate.

A footnote to the "will Disney ever have topless women?" debate: there is no debate. Disney has had topless female humanoids in its cartoons before. The centaurs in the original Fantasia were all topless for several scenes, and only cover up with artfully arranged hairdos and flowers later on. I believe the fairies in the same movie are also nude for a while. And there is the "Night on Bald Mountain" segment that is actually quite horrific and explicit, with plenty of breasts on display. In Fantasia 2000 there is another fairy figure that seems to be naked, although it's hard to tell as her hair turns into robes in a very fluid manner. But the Fantasia movies weren't made for kids, and they are notoriously boring and scary in turns for small children. All the mermaids in the Disney kid-targeted movies (Peter Pan, The Little Mermaid) are consistently covered by hair or shell bras.

LEGO has already done one mermaid figure on Brickbeard's Bounty. She had a shell bra. I seriously doubt that's ever going to change. Neither LEGO nor Disney can afford to take the chance that their toys will be pulled from Wal-Mart's shelves or get a PG-13 rating because of nudity. POTC is probably going to be PG-13 anyway, so the movie mermaids will probably be naked-but-artfully-obscured - but the toys will be G-rated.

well that topless thing was mainly just a joke but still... we have seen severed hearts and brains in potc so why not natural breasts :pir-tongue: there is bare breasts even in some pg-7 movies like Voyage of Columbus (and isn't it ironic that small babies see breasts all the time and then when they are slightly older it's inappropriate :monkey: ) lego won't make topless girls for sure but doing accurate figs is kinda hard- but there is topless men and lego figs don't seem to have nipples (any more than noses or ears :pir_laugh2: )- and female figs already have boobs - are they going to do what kind of prints to their torsos is a good question- perhaps printed hair covering invisible nipples :pir_laugh2: and then molded hair that covers print that is kinda useless... it would still be a topless torso- lol- very useful for humour mocs :pir_laugh2:

Attention!

No more talk about topless torsos, unless it's something completely relevant to the topic. This is quickly turning into childish humor.

Thank you. :pir-classic:

Does anyone think that (if they make the flying dutchman) there would be glow in the dark hulls. :pir-sceptic:

I highly doubt it. I think making very large glow in the dark pieces like that would be quite expensive. LEGO hasn't been making too many glow in the dark pieces lately anyway. :pir-classic:

No pictures yet. I heard speculation that we would see pics about when we saw the first trailers for PotC: 4. I think this should suggest to us that while we can continue dreaming and discussing, we should temper our expectations and not accept anyone's speculations as fact.

Seeing the trailer gets me excited for some sort of carriage set. I also have a strong feeling we are going to get a large hat much like the one from the musketeer in series 4 and powdered wigs!

I'm not that excited for a carriage set, but the thought of large brimmed hats just makes me really excited for this theme! :pir-classic:

But I'm thinking, maybe they would just reuse the wide brimmed hat from the Musketeer from series 4? it would give the same effect, I think.

Now that would be awesome indeed, if Barbossa is part of the LEGO line as well, I'd love to have his torso!

We'll see what the future brings. :pir-cry_happy:

I must admit, I don't really care about a Black Pearl or a Flying Dutchman ship, as I'm not interested that much in the Queen Ann's Revenge.

Far more I would like the Dauntless or even more the Interceptor, as I prefer an East India Company fleet and army, more than a big lot of pirates.

Also intersting would be the Chinese ship from movie three, especially with a turning map. I think, that would be difficult to do, but not that difficult, if you just make only the inner circle turnable...Anyways, I hope that royal soldiers will not only be in the carriage set, even though I think, I'm gonna buy it.

One question: Why does Barbossa work for the British in the trailer? Was that mentioned?

On the Barbosa working for the English gov't aspect,

some pirates were contracted by government officials or the monarchies in said countries to hunt for treasure and the other non-"licensed" pirates.

In a way, they were pirate hunters that were also pirates

The term is "privateer" and the license is called a "letter of marque". I can see Barbosa turning privateer, with the right to loot ships that carry flags other than his employers. I don't think he would give them their due share of the haul, though.
