Here are the mecanum wheels i've been able to make in LDD.

The first one was used in vector racer, its the smallest, but creates quite some vibrations.

The next one is 2 studs bigger and because it uses 12x2 wheels the smoothest of the lot. Mahjqa tested the parts of the wheel, but none of us was able to build the whole one due to lack of parts :sceptic:

Third one is a thinner version. The pins fit in real life, but the whole wheel is untested.

If anyone has the parts and will to try wheels, I would be gratefull for feedback.

Wow! These are great LDD designs! :thumbup::thumbup: I used LDD Manager to create individual parts lists for each of the three wheels separately. I'm going to print out the lists and order the missing parts from Bricklink.com to try them out for real! From left to right,

Dont forget, the first (smallest wheels) dont have rims, and the third wheels use 4 Y shaped pieces, which werent in LDD, so I had to use 2 studs long half beams arround a half bush.

I mean, the wheel in LDD used in vector racer doesnt have these parts inside smaller wheels, because LDD wont allow them to fit there:

I have build the biggest wheels. Due to a lack of parts i had to redesigned them a little bit.

I only have enough rims, not enough tires. So i have replaced the rims with gears (12 Tooth Bevel Gears)

And for the inner work I had only 8 Technic, Axle Connector Hub with 3 Axles for all the wheels.

I used 2 in each wheel.

so i used Technic, Axle Connector with Axle Hole insted of

Technic, Axle and Pin Connector Angled #1.

Thats the only improvement. Because the angle between this parts on the inner en outher side of the rim is 90 degrees. so the wheels are a little bit stronger.

A big disadvantage is the lack of the tires when it drives.

But overall, a great smooth driving wheel, fun to play with!!! Thanks Zblj!!

They even drive better now on all kinds of surface.

Yes, at the moment i was building on the wheels, I received my new education solar cells. I thought, WOW, thats a nice combination. To let the wheels even look more futuristic. But it does not work. They can only store 100 Joules of energy. Enough to drive about ..........20 cm. But it looks great. So I left them on it.

Does anybody think these could be built in a smaller version? Something around a 3-4L diameter? This would work well for a future project of mine, but only if I can get the size shrunk down.

Not if you want to have a smooth running wheel. You need several small wheels on the outer rim and that is not possible at such a small size (or at least really hard to achive).

So you either have to scale up the rest of the model to suit the wheels or use other wheels.

The second movie was made on LegoWorld. I was there from Wednesday till Sunday.

And Mahjqa was there also, and has seen the wheels.

You need to use that XML file to create a wanted list. Once you have the wanted list, you need to click on the "Wanted" tab and then on the "By shop" tab. It will tell you which stores have the most parts. It may not be possible to get them all at one store though.

Thanks for the help. After some hours spent, I was able to get them all by modifying the color of the items :)

It would have been nice if there was a way to "change" the color to the most available one :]

Hi,

Finally my package has arrived :)

I got all the parts to build 4 wheels..

A few questions:

1) The angle of the wheel, you can put it at a 45 degrees or 30 degrees, depending on how you build it - is there any significance to the degrees?

2) When you use it in a car, is there any significance to how you put them? i.e. when you build it you can build one set that has a 45 degree angle to the right, and the other that will have the opposite angle, is it important which angle to the main axle each wheel has?
