Recommended Posts

I picked this set up at TRU the other day. With out further adeau, I present...

Review 2: The Fight for the Dagger

Set Information

Set Number: 7571

Pieces: 258

Set Line: Prince of Persia The Sands of Time

Price: $29.99 US

Release Date: April 2010

The Box

Front

legopop_020.jpg

I like the market scene used for the background

Back

legopop_021.jpg

An overview of the set, which displays the play functions.

Contents

legopop_024.jpg

Two bags of pieces, and a camel in its own individual bag fresh from China.

legopop_026.jpg

Parts de-bagged. The cape and red cover came in cardboard packages inside the bags. Mmm, I see lots of tan.

Pieces of Interest

legopop_027.jpg

A dark tan 2 by 2 jumper plate, pin, and trap door, as well as a 2 by 1 brick and half-arch in the new color. In addition, we have a new whip piece in brown, and the new quarter dome piece in pearl gold.

Instructions

legopop_025.jpg

Front, featuring same picture from boxart.

legopop_041.jpg

One small color problem I found in the instructions. The 2 by 6 plate is dark brown, but it's very hard to distinguish. :sceptic:

Mini Figures

The Cast

legopop_028.jpg

Asoka

Front

legopop_029.jpg

Asoka has some very nice pearl gold armor.

legopop_030.jpg

Without the body plate he has the same torso as the market salesman.

Lets take a closer look at those accessories

legopop_031.jpg

Yes folks, that is a pearl silver spear. The peral gold body plate and Dagger of Time are also stunning.

Market Salesman

Front

legopop_032.jpg

With chicken leg and knife.

Back

legopop_033.jpg

This torso features an excellent back print.

Without Head Wrap

legopop_034.jpg

I reallly like the face print on the salesmen.

Princess Tamina

Front

legopop_036.jpg

This is a beautiful figure.

Back

legopop_037.jpg

Lovely cape and braid.

Reverse Expression

legopop_038.jpg

Dastan

Front

legopop_035.jpg

I figure that everyone is farmiliar with his sword carrier, and he has no back printing, so I won't show him from behind.

Note that he does have a reverse expression on the back of his head.

The Build

Part One: Camel

legopop_039.jpg

The camel is very nice and I thought the crate carrier was brilliant. The new whip piece is used as a thether.

legopop_040.jpg

Inside the crates we find three jewels and three cherries.

Part Two: Fruit Cart and Stand

legopop_042.jpg

The dark brown 2 by 6 plate is used for the stand, and two 2 by 2 dark tan jumper plates are used in the base of the cart to keep the apples in place.

Part Three: Tower and Walkway

legopop_043.jpg

Halfway through the traps are in place, and the frame of the building is done.

legopop_044.jpg

The complete tower and walkway. I like the little pieces of vegitation and the dark brown torches, as well as the fish rack.

legopop_053.jpg

The red cover is held in place by this brown pole.

legopop_054.jpg

Back view. Here you can see the two pearl gold pins used to activate the traps.

Finished Product

Extra pieces

Play Features

Trap One: The Falling Balcony

legopop_055.jpg

Our fried Asoka will demonstrate.

legopop_056.jpg

Ouch! This is a neat little feature.

Trap Two: The Trap Door

legopop_057.jpg

Despite his painful injury, Asoka is as willing as ever to demonstrate.

legopop_058.jpg

Pull the pin and Asoka comes tumbling down.

Extras

The market sure is crowded today. :classic:

Another arrangement

I find that these two sets go very well together.

Rating

When I saw the prelims for Prince of Persia I new this was a set worth picking up, and I still feel that way. This is one of the best market scenes LEGO has produced. It includes plenty of produce to sell and a camel . The Minifigures are outstanding and the scene is just beautiful.

Mini Figures: 10/10 Another outstanding cast of minifigures. Prince of Persia doesn't dissappoint. The salesman and Asoka are my favorites. There accessories are outstanding and Asoka's armor is a must have.

Build: 9/10 A very smooth build although a bit simple for my taste. A couple interesting techniques are used for the fish rack and camel stand.

Pieces: 10/10 Amazing selection of pieces in beautiful colors, including 20 half arch pieces in the new color. There are a lot of pearl gold pieces as well. All PoP sets have an amazing parts selection and this set is no different.

Price: 10/10 258 fabulous pieces for $29.99 is as close as it gets as far as price to parts ratios go. I'm not complaining.

Playability 9/10 Two great play features and lots of minifigs. The possibilities are endless. Dastan could resue Princess Tamina or fight for the dagger as the name suggests. Still, there could be more added. Perhaps some more objects for Dastan to climp/jump on?

Overall 48/50 Amazing set. What are you waiting for? Go get yourself one!

Comments appreciated.

A poll would be nice too.

Nice review. I'm excited to get this set.

Does the camel come with a 1x2 brick, so you don't have to use the saddle?

Steve

No, unfortunatly it doesn't, but all you need is a 2 by 1 dark tan brick because the set comes with two 1 by 2 dark tan plates. :classic:

Well, you beat me! Nice review, dabulls03, as usual. I'm now much more excited about getting this set. I definitely agree it's the best marketplace set TLC has ever released. The minifigs are superb as usual, and of course, it has that awesome camel.

Thanks for sharing this!

Thanks for the review! You've officially earned your special Prince of Persia Dagger of Time tag!

You beat me to the post too, I'm just about to post my review! (But you have the extra Indy Ambush pics I didn't have time to assemble.)

Thanks dabulls03!

Thanks for the review dabulls03!

Looks like a very cool set for $30! A heap of accessories, a camel with two crates balanced on him (neat little addition the the set!), the cloth awning and the two traps are what sell this set for me.

Now all I need to do is wait for one of those Borders coupons...

Let the race to see who reviews Quest Against Time first begin!

This set has some really nice elements. I love the camel. The tarp is nice, as well as the new arches - oh, and a great dagger. I can't say that I'm real fond of the gold armor. It's that cheap, softer plastic, as well as the gold dome/roof pieces.

All things considered, I will definitely buy this set, mainly for all the neat items that it includes.

Thanks for the nice review.

Another good review dabulls03.

Good covering of the entire set with great picture.

My favorite things with this set is the Princess and the white new turban.

Dengar anyone??

Thanks for the review!

I was already excited about picking up this set, but the more I see it the more I find it appealing. This is one of those rare sets in which all it's aspects (looks, pieces, figs, playability, price, etc.) are outstanding.

Quick question. Is the cover about 5 studs wide?

Yup. Looking at it in front of me, I'd say it's almost exactly 5 wide.

Thank you. Could you maybe tell me if it could be put together with this bar?

I don't have that piece, but judging from that picture, I don't think that round 1x1 stud in the middle can fit through the hole in the cloth.

Thanks for the review. I love the set a lot. The food, camel and Tamina figure are what make me want this set. I may buy it if I find it.

I'm kicking myself for not buying this set when it was readily available, maybe I'll fluke out and find one on the bottom shelf somewhere... :cry_happy:
