Comprehensive 10025 to 10022 Conversion List

Having recently purchased the entire Sante Fe line in MISB condition, I thought I would use it as a reference to compile some lists that may be helpful to the community (and your wallet). Following is the list originally complied by Dfenz in 2007 for converting 3 sets of 10025 to the 3 versions of 10022. I have modified it to read left to right, in the order you would add the parts to a BrickLink wanted list (type part number, select color, and then enter quantity). I have also cross checked and cross referenced this list against my sets and BrickLink inventories, and have discovered several discrepancies, noted with an asterisk (*). Also, the -1, -2, and -3 imply 10022-1, 10022-2, 10022-3.

*Discrepancies:

3023 Light Grey 5 Plate 1x2 (*one leftover from 10022-2 conversion)

-Dfenz was correct in stating you need 5, but I wanted to clarify how he got that number: You will need 3 for 10022-1, and 3 for 10022-3, however, you will have one leftover from converting a 10025 into 10022-2, bringing the total down to 5.

2877 Pearl LG 68* Brick, modified 1x2 with grill (78 in -1, 64 in -2, 76 in -3)

-Dfenz originally listed 46 needed, a difference of 22 from what I figured (78+64+76=218 - 150 [50 per set of 10025] = 68. After checking my lists and inventories, it appears that he was counting 22 that were left over from assembling a 10025 into a baggage car. Hence, if you already own a 10025 in baggage car form (on top of the 3 sets you bought to make your 10022) you will only need to purchase 46 more pearl light gray bricks, otherwise its 68.

4864b Trans-Clear 35* Panel 1x2x2 open studs (20 in -1, 17 in -2, 16 in -3)

-originally listed 29 needed, a difference of 6 from what I figured (20+17+16=53 – 18 [6 per set of 10025] = 35. Again, he was counting 6 you would have left over from 10025 in baggage car form. The same baggage car that is donating the 22 pearl bricks to your 10022s will also be donating the 6 left over trans-clear panels. If you don’t own this car, then you will need 35.

4073 Trans-Yellow 2* Plate, round 1x1 Plate(4 in -1, 3 in -2, 4 in -3)

-originally listed 4 needed, but because of extras in the 10025s (3 total per set) you will only need 2. (4+3+4=11 – 9 [3 per 10025] = 2 needed.

The Left-Over List

I have seen some posts asking what parts you will have left over after assembling the 5 different models of the Sante Fe line. After I built my sets, I bagged and inventoried the leftover parts, which provided me with the following list. This may not be that handy, but by doing this I was able to check it against the BrickLink inventory, and figure out what parts are used in each of the 3 variations of 10022 (which will bring me to the final list further down the page). A side note: you should also have 6 left over light grey 2 x 6 plates because you were smart and replaced those plates on the bottom of the cars with tiles, to clear the tracks and keep your train motors happy

Converting 10025 into 1 of the 3 versions of 10022

This list is intended for someone who owns the entire line and wants to add another 10022-1 Dining Car #503 or 10022-3 Sleeping Car #66 to their train by converting a 10025 into their desired car, without buying the whole original list or forking out big bucks for another 10022 (I did not mention the Observation Car here because it is obviously the last car in the series, and having two observation cars wouldn’t make much sense). This list is also handy for those who may own one or two 10022s, and wants to complete their Sante Fe line the cost effective way. By combining Dfenz’s original list with the inventories of which parts are in each 10022, I was able to determine a list of which parts are needed for each specific 10022 model.

I could take this process one step further and see how many parts it would take to make another one of the wagons with the left over parts from all 5 sets (as SavaTheAggie has pointed out in Dfenz’s original thread here). However, this would be a little more time consuming, as there are more variables and possibilities.
