7184: Trade Federation MTT

Name: Trade Federation MTT

Theme: Star Wars Episode I

Set Number: 7184

Pieces: 466

Year released: 2000

Minifigures: 7

Price: Can't remember, but $50.00 according to Peeron

This was a good set back in the day. Number of minifigs and the design of the MTT are okay. Still, I would love to get the other MTT (#7662 Trade Federation MTT).

The instruction manual.

A random page.

IMG_6775.jpg

There's also a comic at the end of the manual.

IMG_6763.jpgIMG_6765.jpg

The minifigs in this set are good. Six Battle Droids with blasters and one without. He controls the MTT. The green groundplate is not included with the set.

IMG_6690.jpgIMG_6691.jpg

Finally a look at the MTT, which is short for Multi-Troop Transport (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/MTT).

IMG_6708.jpg

The bottom.

IMG_6758.jpg

I'll start with the cockpit. The two panels on the side can open up.

IMG_6683.jpg

Here's the Battle Droid inside the cockpit.

IMG_6680.jpg

A close-up of the controls.

IMG_6681.jpg

The Battle Droid is supposed to sit like this but when I moved the MTT around he kept falling out.

IMG_6925.jpg

So I connected him with his back to the back of the chair.

IMG_6931.jpg

The cockpit with the Battle Droid seen trough the window.

With one side closed.

IMG_6678.jpg

Here's the empty loading rack...

IMG_6688.jpg

...which goes inside the MTT.

IMG_6687.jpg

The loading rack with two droids on it.

IMG_6695.jpg

All of the Battle Droids and their blasters on it.

IMG_6697.jpgIMG_6698.jpg

Bottom.

IMG_6699.jpg

Let's put them in!

IMG_6701.jpgIMG_6703.jpg

IMG_6704.jpg

A look from the front.

IMG_6705.jpg

There are some guns on the front.

IMG_6706.jpg

Without the windscreen. I really don't like these guns, because they are very unstable and always fall off.

IMG_6707.jpg

At the back of the MTT there are a couple of small doors.

IMG_6709.jpg

Here they are closed.

IMG_6721.jpg

And open. There's a light/blaster inside it.

IMG_6723.jpgIMG_6724.jpg

The other side.

IMG_6725.jpg

And a look from above.

IMG_6726.jpg

The backdoor of the MTT.

IMG_6728.jpg

Open.

IMG_6729.jpgIMG_6730.jpg

By removing this black tile you can split the MTT in half.

IMG_6732.jpgIMG_6734.jpg

IMG_6735.jpg

It connects by these pins and holes.

IMG_6736.jpg

A photo of the two halves.

IMG_6737.jpgIMG_6738.jpg

It can open up like this (sorry for the cobwebs in the background  )

IMG_6747.jpgIMG_6749.jpg

A look at the complete set.

IMG_6757.jpg

Price: 7/10 - Alright. The MTT from 2007 has three times more pieces than this set and a lot more Battle Droids (20) and is 'only' $100.00. So, I think it's wiser to buy that set instead of this one.

Parts: 8/10 - Nice amount of brown parts, but not really any rare or exclusive pieces.

Playability: 8/10 - It can open up for it to be played with and it's fun to put the droids on the loading rack.

Minifigs: 7/10 - Nice amount of figs, but could have used a bit more.

Final: 7/10 - The design of this MTT is good, but the version from 2007 looks a lot better (and includes a lot more Battle Droids!).

Thanks for the review! :classic:

This MTT seems pretty good for a set made in 2000. It also has lots of features.

Thanks for reviewing. A great set with lots of features. Shame it was not just brown with a bit of grey here and there. With the tan it looks a bit jumbled.

Greetings,

JD

I agree with the color comments above. Great Review. Also, is the loading rack the same as the one in the battle droid transport?

No, it's a little bit different.

For its time this was an exellent set. I am very bummed I never got it. Even today though comparing todays sets it is still very remarkable. Nice review.

both compatible with eachother?

Well, the one from the MTT fits into the Battle Droid Carrier.

The one from the Battle Droid Carrier doesn't fit into the MTT because of the four grey antennas on top of it.

Very nice review Mischa07! Lots of pictures again

Voted average. I like the set, but it's outdated and surpassed by the 7662 Trade Federation MTT. So I'm not judging it as an 2000 set but by todays standards... Although as a collector I would like to get my hands on one.

pretty good set, but for me any set with only droids is just average

This is a nice set, even though I am not into the prequel movies or sets. My fondest memory of this set is being able to buy one used together with some other SW Lego sets (including a 7150 Y-Wing and a complete 7130 Snowspeeder) for € 25,- (!!!) back in 2005 and selling just this MTT on for € 85,- a week later! Beste deal I ever made! And during the week I had it in my possesion, I did admire the many cool features, such as the removable back, the hidden guns and the droid rack.

I have loved this set from the moment it came out, I bought it straight away when it became available in the Netherlands.

It is a large set that still seems a bit empty: all the battledroids are in the front half and the back is filled with some tiny controls and a large cargobay full of... nothing.

I used to place the little tan vehicle from the naboofighter inside it, but there was still room left for more.

The one thing I notice about your review (which is otherwise excellent) is that you misplaced the driver's seat in the upper segment of the front half. The battledroid is somehow designed to fit exactly into that old space part Lego used for a seat back in 2000.

Hey, I'm also from the Netherlands :classic:

I don't understand why I put the seat that way. It's clearly the other way around in the instructions. I'll make some new photos soon and add them to the review. Thanks for pointing it out!

This is an ok set, but the remake is waaay better.

Still this was a great way to build the battle droid army and a neccesity for almost any LEGO Star Wars fan.

Thanks for reviewing this

Nice review, it was very thorough. However, even for a set in 2000, this is one of the ugliest turds of a Lego set I've ever seen. I do, however, like the idea that it splits in half and opens up to the interior. I think that is a technique that should be used more often...

Thanks for sharing. :classic:

The worst Star Wars set ever made

I could build something better

It baffles me that people can defend it 'its one of the early sets the designers were still learning to build...'

Absurd - this was a set built in a single sitting, part of an entire line rushed out to cash in on Ep 1. Look at the old MTT and the new one - one was built by a pro, the other was not

As we can see from the new Republic Dropship set - Lego is more intrested in quality these days (and vast margins!)

I never knew that there was an older MTT, anyway I like the new one better.

So I see

I had the same problem with the battledroid in the seat bouncing around in the MTT, your solution of attaching him to the rear of the seat is very clever!

Thanks :classic: It looks stupid but at least you don't see it when the MTT is closed. It's better than hearing the Battle Droid going through the whole cockpit when the MTT is in motion

I really like this one .I remember when I bought it on ebay.

Great Review Mischa07 :sweet:

This was an alright set, a good attempt by Lego.

But the remake is Alot better!

I like the little blasters on the side of this one though.

Good job!
