The Baritones-the Conclusion

Recommended Posts

conclusion_001.jpg

Carter ran out of the restaurant as fast as his old legs could carry him, cursing himself for not quitting while he was ahead. He had wanted to kill the rest of the good citizens so he could proceed un-hindered, but it seemed it was too late.

"Stop!" Yelled Sky.

conclusion_002.jpg

"Agent Sky, FBI." Sky explained, "Carter, you're under arrest."

"FBI?" Darlene asked, "But, you haven't been doing anything...have you?"

"Well, no..." Sky admitted, "I was here following the Arsonist, but someone else killed him before I could discover who he was. After that I didn't have clearance to work on the Baritones case. I just got off the phone with my boss and he said it was cool if I wanted to stop Baritone crime too..."

"Where's your gun?" Carter asked.

"Oh, I forgot it at home." Sky admitted.

conclusion_003.jpg

"Ha! Reach for the sky, losers." Carter growled, revealing his shotgun, "I'm in charge now. Now for my monologue: You pitiful fools couldn't see that I had joined ranks with the Baritones. Ivan kept hinting at it and saying it couldn't be true, but it was. It didn't take much on my part to convince you I wasn't causing trouble anymore. Haven't you learned anything from other mafia games...of life? You found out I was a traitor and all I said was 'Oh, I'm not anymore' and you all believed me. Idiots! After I killed Patty, the Baritones offered me a choice. Join them or die. They weren't happy with Patty. That Iris wanted the top slot and they were pleased with what I had done. And what did I have to lose? I've had such a boring life and you people never appreciated my service as Editor of the Moonlight Tribune. What an exciting hobby to pick up in my retirement-murder. It's really made me feel fulfilled."

conclusion_004.jpg

"His gun's not loaded." Said the cross-dressing construction man.

conclusion_005.jpg

"You suck cross-dressing construction man." Carter snapped, "Luckily the other workers are still on my payroll. Get them, boys!"

conclusion_006.jpg

The construction workers drew their weapons and surrounded the good citizens of Moonlight.

conclusion_007.jpg

"The cross-dressing construction worker is right," Carter explained, "I only had one bullet in this gun. Due to all of my gambling debt, I couldn't afford more than one and Patty took that one. Once my minions knock down all the structures and build the casinos, I'll have all the money I need though. I inherited quite a bit through this little crime family. I guess I was in the right place at the right time."

conclusion_008.jpg

"Hold it right there." Cried Darlene as she drew a gun and pointed it at Carter's head.

conclusion_009.jpg

"You goons-drop your weapons, put your hands in the air and kick the guns away from you." Darlene ordered. The goons obeyed.

conclusion_010.jpg

"Darlene, why do you have a gun?" Asked Sky.

"Because I'm the Vigilante Killer," Darlene proclaimed to gasps from the others, "I killed Stan when I suspected he was starting the fires. And I thought Pete was another Baritone. A lot of us did. I'll never forgive myself for killing him. I thought I was helping us all out and avenging my sister's death. But now I can. It's time to say 'Good night' Carter."

conclusion_011.jpg

Click.

conclusion_012.jpg

"Oops!" Darlene said, "I forgot I only had two bullets."

conclusion_013.jpg

Chaos ensued as the citizens of Moonlight started to fight for their very lives!

conclusion_014.jpg

"Pfft. Not so tough if you can't take a jackhammer to the gut!" Cried Steve.

conclusion_015.jpg

"Please spare me cross-dressing construction man!" cried the construction man.

conclusion_016.jpg

Snap!

conclusion_017.jpg

"Where'd you get a chain?" The construction man asked.

"What does it matter?" Agent Sky asked.

"It matters to me!" Cried the construction worker, then died.

conclusion_018.jpg

"Hey!" Ivan cried and everyone turned to see what was happening."

conclusion_019.jpg

"You have done the knocking off of my hat from my head." Ivan sneered, "This is great dishonor! And pay you shall for this grievous grievance."

conclusion_020.jpg

"This is Russian Wrestling move: flying-perfect-man-throw." Ivan explained.

conclusion_021.jpg

conclusion_022.jpg

"Ha ha!" Ivan laughed, "This will be great! He will end up like construction man statue, just like he was looking, but now all gray, just like in the...how you say...moving drawing?"

"Cartoon?" Sky offered.

"No no. That is not word." Ivan said, "I will think of it..."

conclusion_023.jpg

The construction man came pouring out of the Cement Truck.

"Aye-that is not like the moving drawing so much..." Ivan observed.

conclusion_024.jpg

conclusion_025.jpg

conclusion_026.jpg

conclusion_027.jpg

conclusion_028.jpg

"Please Darlene!" Carter begged, "Show some mercy! I'm not a bad man. I just made a bad choice. I just wanted some excitement in my old age..."

conclusion_029.jpg

conclusion_030.jpg

conclusion_031.jpg

conclusion_032.jpg

conclusion_033.jpg

And so, the remaining good citizens of Moonlight...

conclusion_034.jpg

...and the cross-dressing construction man...

conclusion_035.jpg

...surveyed the carnage.

conclusion_036.jpg

"I'm glad that's over!" Sky said.

"It's nice to have our peaceful town back." Darlene admitted, "Want to hook up?"

"Do I??!!" Sky smiled!

conclusion_037.jpg

"That was a rough experience." The cross-dressing construction man said, "I'm glad everyone's OK. I couldn't bear to see those people hurting you guys anymore. I had to switch sides. You're really good with a jackhammer, by the way. That foreman was a real prick. It was cool to see him get it that way."

conclusion_038.jpg

"Want to hook up?" Steve asked.

"Do I??!!" The cross-dressing construction man smiled.

conclusion_039.jpg

Ivan surveyed the town, relieved to be free of the Baritone's oppression. He was happy to see the others find some comfort with each other...but wished he could hold his beloved Florence.

"I've been protecting you this whole time..." Ivan heard a voice say. He turned to see Florence's spirit one last time.

conclusion_040.jpg

And enjoyed one last dance with her...

There's a lot more for me to reveal, but I'm busy for the rest of the night. I'll join the discussion later. My favorite part was how and why Carter was able to kill Patty. Can't wait to explain that...

Wow! :oh: What a lot of stuff to get in a little bit of time... :oh3: There were a lot of suprises! Hinckley this is the best Mafia game ever! Can't wait to see what else is revealed!

Excellent conclusion! I'm now very happy (after all, I've just hooked up with another construction worker, who is a cross-dresser )

It's a good thing that I never tried to pursue my idea of Sky being a Baritone, that would have been nasty if it worked out.

And thanks a lot for running this great game... of life  Looking forward to the sequel, I hope surviving this one means Steve will show up again? Pretty please?

Oh my God! That was hilarious!

Awesome ending Hinck, even if you did screw it up the first time. It's even better with dialogue, for some strange reason. I love how nobody had any bullets left, that was funny. So was the munched up construction worker. And me kicking Carter's head into the pavement. As we all know, it is always left to the woman to take care of the big bad bastard baritone guy. Don't mess with a lawyer old man!

Wow that was awesome. I have to say that I have a lot of work to do to match that! Do another one, please oh please oh please? Oh right. Not till next year.

Oh and another thing...

Carter, your a bastard!

I take it your going to eventually reveal everyone's roles and what their night actions were? I would love to have a look at what each person did each night. I've pieced together most of it, I think, but it would be nice to have an official overview. Say, I remember someone asking me for one of those a while ago... :look:

I'm really looking forward to Baritones 2, and it better have more twists, more weird characters, the return of the cross-dressing construction man, more gore, and more everything! Well, I don't know, more of something anyway.

Now, for my final verdict. Yeah, I guess you did a pretty good job.

I didn't play in the game, but I followed your adventures every "game" day. I really enyoid them.

Next time I will try to join, this seems to be loads of fun AND a good strategy training.

I am looking forward to read the rules you came up with, Hinckley, and so I can study them at once, for the next Baritones game... :pir-wink:

Hinckley, you're the man here !

(PS: "Poor" old Carter... dying so cruelly)

Well done guys! I'm just a bit bummed Carter wasn't taken out before I was killed... ah well, it was still heaps of fun. :sweet:

Thanks a lot to Hinckley for doing this and to the players for making it fun. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing all the behind the scenes stuff.

I would... but your dead... and that would be just like... eew... gross...

Besides, I've already got my lovely FBI agent. Who I cannot believe didn't do anything about the Baritones because he didn't ring his boss... :look: Sorry I killed your case study.

Girls with Guns ON!

EDIT: Wait a minute! I just noticed something. Is my hair trying to eat my face when I'm kicking Carter?

That brings back memories.

Aw, that's a great ending. Florence.

I am not seeing anything wrong with my hair, and I, Ivan, am approvingses of the dialoging used to representative my speakingses, it was quite the accurate.

As I saw the part with Carter, all I could think was "pop goes the weasel"

Great job Hinck, seriously, and especially to the good citizens of Moonlight. I hope this guarantees the eventual return of Ivan in Part 2. Pweeze? :sweet:

Now, Agent Sky, once you're done banging her brains out, please arrest Darlene, she killed the serial killer, which was good, but poor what's-his-name-the-other-guy never did anything to anyone.

Hey, I thought you were on my side? Thanks for a great game Shadows, and everyone else too, it was loads of fun. You know, that was the first complete Mafia game I've played in, if you don't count the Roman Mafia which wasn't ever finished. I enjoyed it a lot.

And yes Hinck, seriously, I think you did a great job too. :classic: Darlene shall live on!

Great game, Hinckley, and brilliant conclusion. I love how the members of the town are even more merciless than the Baritones.

I followed most of the game and I must say, it was very entertaining. The photography was especially excellent.

Overall, great job, I look forward to seeing (and hopefully playing...) your Baritones sequel. :sweet:

*claps* Bravo!

Always good to see the town win...unless I'm scum, of course!

Firstly, a bit of an explanation for my notes on night 3 and my cryptic comment on day 2 - I had investigated Ivan two days in a row after finding him out of his house one night. The first night I found him out of the house, and three people died (If I recall correctly...), making me suspicious. I didn't get a chance to say it (my regards to the arsonist - may you burn in a locked house, or a megabloks factory, whatever you choose), but him being out of the house the next night confirmed my doubts that Ivan would be a baritone. The only death that night was my death by flaming, and so I figured that he had to be doing something else out there - and so I figured that he had a night action he could use for good.

What WAS his night action, anyways?

~Trexxen (I'm keeping my avvy as long as I can, by the way - I don't have my own, and I've grown rather fond of my charred corpse  )

[EDIT: Oh, and before I get, compliments to the chef - No, not you Ivan, you Russian/Italian wrestler you - but to Hinckley. For what I ASSUME is your first hosting of a mafia game, this was magnificent - you had everything a traditional mafia game should have, and then your own little twists to make it special. Though it didn't last long, especially compared to Mystery Castle (that went on for, what, three or four months?) or of course the Roman Mafia, it was nonstop action every step of the way. Three thumbs up (Yes, three - I grabbed one from the construction man chunks) for this game! =D]

Hooray, we've reached the end. I have to say, the most astounding thing about this was the speed. This was the fastest mafia game I've seen or participated in. A lot of that had to do with DJ Force's role as the vengeful spirit. I'll get into all this detail in a bit. I archived the sent messages so I have to wait until I can find them to show you what I sent everyone, but let me explain some of the special roles in this game that I really appreciated and start a bit of a diatribe about creating The Baritones:

Let me start by explaining how I chose the roles and the players. It was a completely random process. I didn't choose to make most of The Baritones female and I didn't choose to make the mayor character a goon. I made three lists: 1. player 2. role (i.e. Iris-cosmetic salesman) 3. affiliation/night action. There were twenty items on each list. I wrote each item out on a piece of paper and dropped them into three cups and drew randomly to combine the three into one character. The only exception was Darlene who I created as a replacement for a citizen (Tom) and beefed up the night actions-by a lot.

One thing I did that a lot of people will probably disagree with is change things that were set in motion already. Not much, but just little tweaks. I played more of a producer role than an organizer. I allowed little things to change to keep it interesting and wanted to focus a good story instead of really just letting the rules set in place.

The first place I did this was by adding Darlene to the game. I killed off Tom because the player wasn't participating (sorry Thomas B!-hope to see you next time) and added Darlene. The Baritones had a very successful first night killing off the bodyguard. Darlene was added as a bodyguard to give the citizens a chance to survive. For a moment, I thought The Baritones were going to dominate the game. Darlene was also the vigilante killer and she was allowed 2 day kills. She also couldn't be killed at night.

On the first day-since we had 20 players-I allowed The Baritones 2 night kills. The Baritones were allowed to discuss who they wanted to kill by night and reach the decision together. I allowed Randomparrot-who was playing Patty, the godfather, to decided who the second victim was on the first night. Randomparrot's first fatal mistake was choosing Florence as his/her victim.

From the beginning Florence was the bodyguard/vengeful spirit. If killed she became a spectral investigator. DJ Force guessed three Baritones in a row. For those of you who don't know, in a mafia game, the investigator can ask the organizer every night what the affiliation of one player is and the organizer has to tell them. So, while some people thought the ghost of Florence was "ruining" the game-it was actually a case of a very good player being given a powerful role. If Florence wouldn't have been killed, no one else would've been given the vengeful spirit role. It only happened to Florence if she was killed. Unfortunately for The Baritones, she was killed on Night 1.

My favorite character was Carter. There were two traitors in the game. They were both addicted gamblers who owed the mob money. In exchange for loan extensions they helped the Baritones sway the vote towards someone The Baritones wanted dead. This worked very well with Neal. Let me add an editorial note here: the random process I chose gave some of our younger, more inexperienced, sometimes more obnoxious players most of The Baritones roles. A lot of focus was drawn to some of these players because they were prominent posters in the game. I really love how well everyone did in the game, but especially Skinny Boy and I Scream Clone. Back to Carter: Carter was also the paranoid gun owner-my favorite little role. He didn't even know he had this power. The first person to investigate him or try to kill him would instead be shot and killed by him. Oh, I love it. That is how randomparrot made the second horrible mistake-killing Carter. The other 'Tones wanted to kill Veronica but Randomparrot made the final call and said Carter-and he killed her. Originally this role belonged to someone who didn't fully understand it. He actually posted his role from the PM I sent him in the discussion thread. I was really annoyed by that and I feel very lucky that Skinny Boy came in. Skinny Boy did such a great job at playing off the traitor role. How funny! All he said was "Oh, I'm not a traitor anymore" and everyone was fine with it! He was also good at playing off the clues I was sending to clue everyone else in that it was him. And I love that although someone was crying that if Carter was the remaining Baritone it would be cheating, that same someone simultaneously started a discussion about a mafia game where zombie monkeys changed people's affiliations! Which brings me to the final facet of the traitors: the Baritones got the option to recruit one traitor after the first Baritone was killed. Lee Adam was already dead, so Carter was the only one to recruit and they took the chance to beef up their numbers, since Florence was picking through them. love it!

Poor Rhonda and Dillon... :cry_sad:

Ivan also received some more night actions after Florence was killed. I didn't originally plan to do this, but after the investigator was killed on the 2nd day I thought the citizens could use some help. Ivan had to be killed twice to actually die and I gave him the role of the watcher-he could check people's houses at night to see if they were home.

White Fang played an FBI agent who could only protect people from the Arsonist.

Stash2Sixx had a 50-50 chance to burn someone's house down every night. I'd just flip a coin...

I Scream Clone got 2 kills his first night as Godfather and chose to kill Flint and Veronica. I gave him an extra kill since the Baritones were being picked right through...

Missed Clue:

day_07_03.jpg

Carter is wearing the killer's gloves at breakfast.

Missed Clue:

day_03_05.jpg

day_03_07.jpg

Stan is missing from the beginning of the investigation because he was changing out of the Arsonist's clothing.

More later...

Thanks to everyone for playing this game so well and making it so exciting and interesting! The players are truly what made this game a successful one!

*Clap clap clap* Encore! Encore!

I think this was THE best of the Mafia games, if not...games...on Eurobricks.

It was so enjoyable to read and the fantastic, detailed, (and inaccurate green brains) pictures just made it blow up like a colorful firework.

Cheers to Hinkley for hosting this game and providing the great pictures, and especially to the great members who played in it. ALL wonderful! :classic:

Yeah, well done Hinckley! *wolf whistle*

That's some awesome detail in there, and I must say that the stuff you came up with for night actions etc was outstanding! I notice you couldn't resist meddling just a little bit though. Not that I'm complaining, I was quite fine with it, since it got me involved in the game.

Those clues are very interesting, subtle, yet I cannot believe we didn't notice them. Well, the gloves were a little hard to notice. Hang on, how could I have missed the gloves, I'm staring right at them!

Paranoid Gun owner, now that is awesome. Did you come up with that yourself, or have you found some awesome one-stop Mafia-game shop?

Now, that bit about traitors. It wasn't that we believed Carter when he said he wasn't a traitor any more, the mistake we made was assuming that he couldn't change sides. Next time I wont fall for that. What me and Shadows thought was that Carter was a traitor that the Baritones could control, but yet still a citizen. Ah well. It made it much more interesting. Even at the end we didn't think he was a Baritone, just a tool. Talk about underestimating. Bravo to Skinny Boy for playing us all like cheap pianos, I certainly hope you take part in the next game, it was fun playing against you. :classic:

I'm looking forward to what else you have to tell us, it is all very interesting. I mus say you've given me a couple of ideas for Mystery Castle 2 when that eventually comes around.

There was defianitly some stuff I didn't. GREATEST GAME EVER! :cry_happy: So if I hadn't have been killed, I would have been the traitor? Carter played his role perfectly! He tricked me many times. Those clues were tricky...I should have been paying more attention....

Paranoid Gun owner, now that is awesome. Did you come up with that yourself, or have you found some awesome one-stop Mafia-game shop?

[that sound scissors make]

While it's not a new role, it's new to mafia games here and that's what's important - bringing new (traditional) gameplay to a current favorite was a very good move. As I implied earlier, this was very close to a true classic mafia game. There was a mafia group, a splinter murderer (Arsonist; a form of the "Serial Killer" role that so many mafia games adore...), peeping toms, abilities that triggered on death (ok, THAT I've rarely ever seen, and it's never been investigator, so full credit to Hinckley there...=D)...this mafia game was truly modeled after many other successful games, and with a touch of Hinckley (which makes anything 150% concentrated win anyways), it amounted to a great game.

Another thing I liked was the sprinkling of clues - a perfect bridge between the Western Mafia, which gave few if any clues and had us rely on cunning, wit, and eachother's posts to win, and the Mystery Castle, which gave plenty of clues - even if none of us figured them out...

I'll tell you right now, when I get to doing the Pirate game (still haven't even decided on a title yet - heck, haven't gotten together with Ivan - err, Imperial Shadows yet either =P), anything and everything can and will be a clue - and that'll play to everyone's advantage.

Now it all makes sense, though I must admit, those missed clues were a bit obscure (but great).

Ivan was very happy to being citizen and will be much sadness to giving up avatar. Will treasure this opportunity forever and never forgetting Florence.

I don't know how intentional it was, or if it was Hinck adjusting as the situation progressed, but there was nothing in my early notes about Ivan's personality or background, so between the accent and occasional references to the KGB and wrestling and such, I wanted to hint at him possibly being able to take care of himself, but I worried that it would be taken as potentially mob-ish.

It was a tough balance. The thing I appreciated was how Hinck used what I wrote, whether accidentally or intentionally, to take the character in the exact direction I had intended. It made me feel like I had some control over a real life, as opposed to just being an actor in a part written by someone else completely.

Damn fine job, everyone!
