What is this brick?

Recommended Posts

I have a few bricks that are similar to part 3065, however they are clearly older as the 'LEGO' on the studs is in a different font, and on the underside they don't seem to have a part number, I have two in my hand and one has a number 4 underneath, while the other has a number 44. Anyone know what these are? Unless they are just older versions of 3065, I can't find them on Bricklink anywhere.

3065 on bricklink is a 1x2 brick w/o bottom tube. Sounds like you have a few pre-70's bricks. Old Logo and such. Do they have little molding marks on the side? Could be old Samsonite 1x2s as well.

They do seem to have small marks on the ends that look like they could have been from moulding. Also, I haven't got a camera on this laptop so unfortunately I can't take a picture.

I've a few having end pips, can't say if made sans bars, or they broke off? End pips & bars both started in 1963 (longer 1969 & slope 1977) (trans' & with notch for wire made later). So are 1×2's end pips & no bars very rare?

Just check, I've 3 of each, broken off bar & with N°. Wonder if Lego used the same moulds changed to having end pips instead of on a corner? I'd not considered end pips to be an improvement.
