Great Brick War General Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

A player recently asked about collaborative builds and how they would work.

So if multiple players design and contribute parts to a build, there will be a split amongst those involved of any points earned. It would be impossible for the staff to judge each part of the build that a person added separately. If players want to do a joint build they share the points.

There are obvious loopholes (like having everyone on your side build a vehicle in LDD and stick it in the build and expect everyone to get points). Can't get more than 4 points which means it makes no sense to have more than 4 people. But if you attempt to take advantage of the rules, you will be given a grade of zero. Use fair judgement.

My personal recommendation is that you plan builds that play off of one another, that way you each get your fair amount of points for your effort you put in. It adds to the story. Work out a little storyline with a teammate and have each of you build a project that relates and intertwined with the other.

Does anyone have any issues if we retool some of the maps?

The goal is to create more detailed maps geographically and in a higher resolution. Country sizes would remain the same and any natural land features would remain the same with some possibly being added, none of which would impact the current state of the game.

You have probably considered this suggestion, a map scale to realize the distances between points.

Best regards.

I had a question about neutral countries. Can neutral countries got to war and form alliances? Or can neutral countries remain neutral but sell/send support, like troops, to other countries?

Neutral countries are not currently playable, though they may be in the future. Right now the staff is controlling neutral countries to help move the game along. They could wind up doing any number of different things as the game progresses.

I speak for the staff when I say we are very proud and humbled by the response we've received to the game in general and today's campaign. You guys are doing great.

Before we start scoring builds and get you guys on our bad side, we wanted to reach out to all of you and ask what you think about the game so far? are you having fun? are we varying things up enough? what can we do to make it better?

We want your feedback- good, bad, or otherwise.

I think the campaign builds have me blown away! Congratulations everyone!

@Thebeeze111 I think you guys are doing good in the game. The only improvement I can think of would be to potentially create new types of side builds?

Um, maybe building a new base/border patrol? Or perhaps some other potential side builds that could be unlocked at a higher ranking?

I'm sure you guys will have better ideas than me though!

Maybe we can do some mini-challenges in between campaigns with simple objectives, just to keep the community active during the wait. For example, training new recruits(training course/shooting range), building up your arsenal(vehicles/tech), escort missions(supplies/politicians), etc.

Just an idea, but everything thus far looks great, campaign and build wise.

I wasn't big fan of Eurobricks until a friend of our LUG (Gricks, the Greek LUG) and player of the BoBS told me about the annoucment, of this game. Then...I stucked !!! 5 medium to big builds during 1,5 month...I like he game and how it goes. How gives the opportunity to build and to embody many ideas and stories into the main scenario

Nice idea. Probably one side build can be in a very specific theme and must be build during a certain period

I'm writing all of this down. Note we do have some unlockable side missions already. And I also want you guys to read up on the FRAGO missions. They will be coming, so you may want to setup notifications for your team's chats so you don't miss out on those.

I have a few ideas for other side missions.

Read up on the FRAGO missions in the rules area. We did not do any before the first campaign because 1. We wanted everyone to get off to a nice rolling start and 2. We're unsure if people were ready for them. Like I said, we will definitely be rolling these out soon.

What about the home front to show how the war affects the country whether civilians or the families of troops

You can cover things like that under Media or Supporting the War Effort Builds

I've been very happy with the way things have gone so far. Leadership seems fair and helpful, the player's looks great.

The builds have been good, the strength of the campaign will be in how much we are able to tell stories inside the restrictions of the campaign we are in at any given time.

My experience with another of the rpgs on EB was soured when the builder running the story arc completely overreacted to a player led initiative and really bullied his own version in rather than let the players express themselves, I've basically not really gone back to it in the last four or five months because of this. I don't see that happening here though as the leadership is clearly interested in both sides developing and I've been very pleased with the honest approach to feedback which although maybe occasionally hard to take for a builder helps is all do better jobs in the future.

If there is one thing I'm unsure about it is is how "progress" or "victory/failure" will be measured. Because we are essentially against each other will one group be made to build losses while the other is allowed to focus on the victories? Otherwise will we end up with a war where everyone is winning all the time, and that seems wrong. I'm not expecting an instant answer to that, it is quite a big concept and I don't think we will need anything decisive to happen for a while...

Tl:dr all is good, curious to see how the game develops :)

I am sharing the same impression. I understand what you are saying on another EB RPG game (myself I took a hard decision concerning this event) and I am sure it will not happen here !

I am happy of how the 1st Campaign started and hope to see more high quality builds in the future. The comments given by the leader team are great and it is rare to have such comments on builds. I will try to follow them and try to better my building skills !

Thank you @Thebeeze111 and his team for this game ! Keep up the good job !

Please see my below response to a question which was raised in the COAC Comm Net:

Just now, Thebeeze111 said:

Okay, so you raise a good question. @Spud The Viking reached out to me prior to his build with the plane and asked the best way to approach it. I advised him what I thought would be acceptable- to either foreshadow the plane or have it in the background or something so that it would not be the primary focus. Given that the plane wound up being the primary focus of the build, it will hurt his score a bit. At the same time, aerial operations are what need to be unlocked. So showing the plane sitting on the runway is not really an aerial mission.

So this is a kind of grey area. It borders on the fringe of legality just like @BoBKiD's tank does.

I know you're all eager to build other things, but I ask that you please stay within the point guidelines we have laid out. Different types of missions and vehicles need to be unlocked in order to be used at all. That's the whole point of the system, you earn your way up to be able to do bigger things. You want to build planes and ships? Make more quality builds to earn points faster.

That being said, we are trying to be lenient given that the game is in its infancy. Please don't take advantage of that leniency. We are trying to be fair to all players on all sides here. If you have questions as to the legality of something, I ask that please you pose those questions in the public general discussion thread (without any country or team specific information) so that all members can be given the same information.

More on this.

Finally I know this isn't my game and I hope @Thebeeze111 doesn't mind me butting in but for planes, tanks and all the other things we are yet to unlock I would try and hold back for now.  The reason I say this is you think you have a great build that will get you a heap of points the most you can get if you use it early in a side build is 4 but if you wait and use it in a campaign you might be looking at 7+.  Also the way I understand the rules is if you introduce something in a side build this will hit your score if it appears again since the scoring criteria includes originality, hopefully a mod can clarify if this is right again.  Like I say this is just my opinion but think strategically, why use something that could be an 8 pointer now if you only get 4 from a side build?  Maybe use only a part of the locked item in a side build, for example I am hoping to build a naval vessel of some kind and do a media build of it being launched where you will only see the bow with the majority of it hidden until I can hit the high seas.

You are correct that more intricate details will earn you more points in a campaign vs a side build. So if you've got some big bomber or a Destroyer you're working on, it might be wise to save it for a Campaign or to foreshadow/preview it in a side build.

However, vehicles and the like can be reused. If something is brand new, it will certainly help your originality score. Reusing vehicles will not hurt your score, but it won't do much to build it either. The goal of your builds is originality to build great stuff. If you've had the same tank as the primary focus of your last build, don't make it the primary focus of a new one. Have it square off with another tank, have it get blown up, have it drop some guys off and then they go do something else.

Hope this helps.
