German LEGO Adventurers Audio Dramas

Recommended Posts

Yeah, there was a transcript of sorts for the Orient Expedition one, though it was hosted on Majhost, which has since died. You can see the discussion of it and some more info on the whole thing here, though. I may still have a copy of the transcript saved on an old laptop... Though it was done with an audio-to-text converter, and then run through Google Translate, so the results were less than stellar, haha. Here's a small surviving snippet of it that was posted in the topic linked to previously:

Quote

Unglubiger mixed mode in the underlying her eyes fell directly on the Yeti , who was lying in a corner and grabbed threatening to have been angry disturbed in his sleep , the Yetibewegung sat .

You drckte three consecutive times on the shutter button , the light from the flash offset the Yeti an immense terror. His eyes were so blinded that he blindly stumbled back and forth until he hit his head on a rock and lay unconscious.

As far as I know nobody's done a proper transcription + translation yet. There's also a transcript of the other Adventurers audio drama in the same topic, and a few others too, though done with the same method.

Oh, and here's some other topics on Eurobricks about other LEGO audio dramas (Pirates, Castle, and Time Cruisers), with transcriptions + translations done by someone who actually speaks German:

There's also Western audio dramas but to my knowledge there's been no attempts of translating those whatsoever.

Let's give the Adventurers stuff a try.

Jahrhunderte später… weit weg… in Europa….

Nanu? Was steht den hier? Linda Lovely… Linda? Linda Lovely? Also eine Reporterin! Hmm… (Telefon klingelt) Was denn? Was sagen sie denn da?

Mal sehen was uns hier erwartet. Hmm… Was könnte das sein? Mal fühlen… urgh… ziemlich kalt, wie… wie Stein. Noch eine Figur? Dies Mal liegend? Hilfe! Ganz ruhig Joe, ganz ruhig, geh langsam rückwärts. Ganz langsam und vorsichtig. Hopla, was? Fast wäre ich darüber gefallen. Das ist doch… der Professor! Fast hätte ich die Schlange vergessen. Sie ist weg.

Articus: Joe… sind sie das?

Joe: Aber ja Professor. Was ist den passiert? Warum liegen sie am Boden?

Articus: Ich…

So. Etwas sehr wichtiges.

Articus: Ach ja, das Papyrus. Ich habe es in meiner Jackentasche. Genau hier.

Joe: Aha. Nanu?

Articus: Es ist verschwunden!

Joe: Also doch, Jemand hat es gestohlen.

Articus: He he he he, macht nichts.

Joe: Wie bitte?

Articus: Ich habe das Papyrus ganz genau abgezeichnet.

Joe: He he he.

Articus: Doch wohl in weiser Voraussicht.

Joe: Uh huh.

Articus: Eine Schlange? Eine Naja Naja?

Joe: Was?

Joe: Kleopatra?

Articus: Meine zahme Kobra.

Joe: Ja, sehr, sehr beruhigend.

Slyboots: Hallo? M-m-m-mr. Hates? Hier is Slyboots. Ja… ja… he he….

Articus: Nein, was denn?

Joe: Haben Sie schon was gefunden, Professor?

Articus: Nein, noch nichts.

Joe: Und was ist da hinten? Waren sie da schon?

Articus: Nein. Sehen wir mal zusammen nach.

Joe: Aha!

Articus: Nein. Dann gehen wir zu Ballon zurück.

Joe: Ihr Rucksack ist aufgegangen, Professor. Soll ich ihn wieder schließen?

Articus: Was?

Articus: Ein geheimer Mechanismus.

Joe: Aha.

Joe: He he, nett….

Articus: Nein, nein nein, nein nein! Wir rühren sie besser nicht an. Sie könnte sonst zu Staub zerfallen.

Joe: Uhuh.

Aber was steht hier? Ich meine direkt neben der Mumie.

Articus: Nun, das sind auch Hieroglyphen. Jedes Bild steht für einen bestimmten Buchstaben.

Joe: Na und?

Articus: Das Bild das so aussieht wie eine Tasse ist ein C. Die Schleife ein H. Die Schlangenlinie ein N. Der Kleinere Vogel ein U, und der Raubvogel ein M.

Joe: Und das ergibt?

Articus: Chnum. Den Namen Chnum.

Joe: Chnum?

So!

Articus: So?

Sonst nichts?

Joe: Eine Pistole.

Articus: Wie?

Mr. Hates: Ehe he he, ha ha ha, Ich habe nämlich die Hülle ihres Heizluftballons zerschnitten.

Linda: Eh, Linda, Linda Lovely.

Joe: Linda Lovely? Der Name kommt mir irgendwie bekannt vor.

Articus: Na egal.

Joe: So so.

Articus: Nur so… 40…50…

Linda: 50?!

Linda: Was?

Slyboots: Was denn? Ich sehe da nur einen Totenschädel.

Mr. Hates: Eben.

Joe: Linda, was machen sie denn da?

Articus: Gut, Joe. Aber beeilen sie sich. Wir haben bestimmt nicht mehr viel Zeit.

Joe: Keine…keine Sorge.

Linda: Seien sie vorsichtig.

Joe: Ja.

Linda: Hier.

Joe: Danke.

Articus: Und sonst nichts?

Joe: Nein…Doch! Unten hier ist etwas. Da schimmert etwas.

Articus: Ja?

Joe: Es ist…eh… ja! Eine Rolle, sie ist Weiß.

Articus: Das Papyrus!

Joe: Scheint so.

Joe, Schnell!

Joe? Joe?

Linda: Joe!

Joe: He he, so schnell wirst du mich nicht wieder los. Ich bin in letzter Sekunde dort drüben rausgesprungen. Hast du das den nicht gesehen?

Linda: Nein.

Articus: Hmm, ich auch nicht.

Joe: Das Papyrus habe ich auch gerettet.

Articus: Ausgezeichnet.

Komm her.

Linda: Ja.

(Sie verlassen den Grabtempel.)

Joe: Ah, endlich wieder frische Luft.

Joe: Ja, hier.

Articus: Danke. Ja, das… eh… das ist in der Nähe von…

Mr. Hates: Hey! Was machen sie da?

Danke.

Articus: Bitte.

Joe: Ein wundervoller Sternenhimmel.

Linda: Ja, märchenhaft schön. Was uns wohl morgen erwarten wird?

Joe: He he he, na ganz einfach, Linda, wir werden auch noch das letzte Papyrus aufspüren.

Linda: Und dann?

(Irgendetwas sagt Pssch.)

Joe: War da was im Gebüsch?

Joe: Gutenacht.

Linda: Gutenacht.

Articus: Gutenacht meine Freunde.

Mr. Hates: Wozu?, reine Zeitverschwendung.

He he.

He he he. Gutenacht Chef.

Linda: Joe, lass ihn doch.

Lauter Schlangen!

Mr. Hates: Diese falle kennen wir doch schon.

Linda: Was war das? Ist hier etwa auch eine Schlange?

Joe: Selbstverständlich, im Rucksack des Professors.

Linda: Was?

Joe: Sei still, Linda.

Mr. Hates: Ach, zu spät. Slyboots?!

Slyboots: Ja Boss?

Slyboots: Okay C-chef. Einen Kinderspiel dank meinen M-m-muckies.

Mr Hates: Nein, nein, nein nein, einen Moment da, einen Moment.

Slyboots: Ja, was ist denn, Boss?

Mr. Hates: Gut.

Slyboots: Ugh, es klappt. (Der Mechanismus auslöst irgendetwas.)

Mr. Hates: Das hätte mich ja fast erschlagen.

Slyboots: Boss?

Etwas beinahe Albtraum artiges.

Linda: Aber was?

Mr. Hates: Slyboots? Slyboots?

Slyboots: Ja, Boss?

Slyboots: Gleich, Boss.

Linda: Begraben unter einer Mumie. Fast tut er mir leid.

Mr. Hates: Slyboots?! Boots!!!! Befrei mich endlich von diesem Monster!

Slyboots: Ja, Boss, ich komme ja schon, Chef. Hält mich ganz s-s-schön auf Draht.

Linda: Träume ich? Sieh doch, Joe, der Obelisk.

Joe: Na nu, er steht plötzlich schief.

Articus: Joe! Linda! Kommt schnell! Was sagt ihr dazu?

Linda: Das Versteck!

Articus: Ja.

Mr. Hates: Mach doch ein bisschen schneller, Slyboots!

Slyboots: Ich beeile mich schon, Boss. Meine Arbeit gefällt m-m-mir immer weniger, Boss.

Articus: Noch sind sie beschäftigt. Schnell!

Mr. Hates: Der Ramses Rubin gehört mir!

Articus: Was? Eine Eisenkette? Nicht berühren, Linda! Auf gar keinen Fall berühren!

Linda: Eh…eh… In Ordnung, Professor.

Ehrm, passt genau auf was passiert.

Linda: Nicht auszudenken.

Joe: Diese Klinge hier…

Lind: Und?

Joe: Nein! Sie ist weg! Und das Skelet auch!

Articus: Aber… Aber sehen Sie doch, Joe! An ihrer Stelle steht jetzt ein durchsichtiges Gefäß. Und darunter, das ist der Rubin!

Joe: Der Rubin… Und was ist mit Linda? Linda?

Linda: Gut so.

(Man Hört jemand näher kommen.)

Mr. Hates: Gute Frage, Professor.

Linda: Mr. Hates und Slyboots, sein Komplize. Hey! Was wollen sie von mir? Lassen Sie mich los…

Mr. Hates: Ich sage ihnen eines, Professor.

Linda: Finger weg!

Articus: So so, verstehe.

Hates.

Joe: Huh? Ein Sarkophag. Ganz schwarz.

Da! Sogar ein Foto von Kleopatra ist dabei.

Linda: So so.

Joe: Nanu, was steht den hier? Ach das gibt’s doch nicht?

Linda: Was den, Joe?

Du? Also wirklich, Linda, du bist immer noch eine lästige Reporterin. He he he.

Joe: Wie wahr.

Joe: He he, da hast du wohl recht.

The hunt for the pharaoh’s treasure

Narrator: It happened one decade after the death of the great Ramses the fourth. After many others had failed previously, grave robbers broke into Ramses’ burial temple, greedy for gold. They stole everything they could find, and in the end even opened the sarcophagus of the dead pharaoh. They finally found it there, in the headdress of the mummy, the most valuable possession that the pharaoh had in life: A giant ruby. This jewel wasn’t just priceless, it was rumoured to have magic powers. The grave robbers didn’t get very far with their treasure though. It is told the curse of the pharaoh struck them. All but one of them died from a mysterious poison, still in the tomb of Ramses. The survivor escaped with the ruby, hiding it somewhere safe in the desert. Once done, he too died from the bite of an eerie red snake. No one had ever seen a snake of this type in the area.  The stories of the ruby survived however, and since then researchers and adventurers have searched for the magic ruby of Ramses.

Centuries later…far away…in Europe.

Joe: Ah, it’s so nice to be back home again, sitting in my favourite chair in front of the fireplace and reading a newspaper. Hey? What is this article? “As we know from reliable source, the famous adventurer Joe Freeman has…” …Joe Freeman? Joe Freeman! They’re talking about me! Let’s see how it goes on. “the famous adventurer Joe Freeman has…” And so on…ahaha… “returned yesterday on the 6th of October 1910 from a secret mission in our city.“ That’s true, but I’d love to know what ‘reliable source’ they got this from. “Joe Freeman is said to have helped a well-known individual out of a dangerous situation.” Well then… “The situation is said to have been about stolen secret documents.” Hmm…also true. How can this pen pusher have gotten to know so much? This…this…wait, it says a name down here…Linda Lovely…Linda? Linda Lovely? So it’s a female reporter! Hmm…she’s good, I have to admit, but a too nosey for my taste. (Telephone rings)  What? The telephone? Who’d call me at this time? It’s almost midnight. (He picks the handset up) Joe Freeman? Ah, it’s you, Professor Articus, old friend. Come again? You’re in the museum? In the middle of the night? In the Egyptian section? Eh, umm, why are you whispering, professor? What are you saying? You think you’re not alone? But who would….what? You’ve made a sensational find in…in the pharaoh’s sarcophagus…Ramses the fourth…ah, I understand. A picture covered papyrus text rolled together inside of the sceptre next to the mummy. What clue? A clue to…the magic ruby of Ramses…erh…you’ll have to explain that. Professor? Professor? Are you still there?! Professor? What was that noise on your end? Professor?! Why aren’t you saying anything?! (He taps the handset a few times) What was that noise earlier? It almost sounded like…something falling over. Something heavy… he must have hanged up. Argh, operator! Operator?! We were disconnected! Hello? (He presses the telephone hook frantically.) Hello?! Ach, useless, (He hangs up.) it’ll take far too long. Strange, the professor would never just have hanged up without explaining. And why did he think he wasn’t alone? In the middle of the night among the exhibitions. Hmm…something isn’t right, I can feel it. But, perhaps he just fainted from the excitement. No matter, I’ll find out, I’ll need to get to the museum right away. I’ll just get the car keys. Hopefully I’m not too late already.

Narrator: Joe pulled up at the museum a few minutes later. He jumps out of the car and runs up the steps to the entrance. Should he try to force the door or rather a window? He tries the doorknob though, and to his surprise, the heavy door simply opens. It isn’t locked, as it otherwise usual is at this time of night. Without hesitation Joe steps into the cold entrance hall of the museum, and the door falls shut behind him with a loud bang.

Joe: First the door isn’t locked, and then it’s all dark in here. Strange, very strange. None of the gas lamps are on. Professor? Professor Articus? Are you there? Professor?! No answer. Hmm…if I remember correctly, there is a set of stairs back there that go up to the Egyptian section. Right, there it is, perhaps the professor is still there. PROFESSOR?! Again, nothing. I’ll just go see for myself. Will these stairs never end? Phew, made it. Hmm…huh…where do I go now? Right or left down the hallway? Wait, the telephone? Umm…the telephone is, I think, in the last room on this side, so this way. Bugger that hurt. Who puts a giant vase in the way like that? Or was that an urn? Hopefully it didn’t break. Damn, I hit my poor foot again. Let’s see, it feels pretty hard. A statue! It’s an enormous stone cat. What’s next? I’m getting pretty tired of feeling my way around. (Sighs) This isn’t working. Aha, it must be here, the last room at the end of the hallway. Let’s see what awaits us here. (The door squeaks) Now, why is it brighter here than in the hallway? Huh, must be the moonlight, there are two big windows here. The light is reflected by the loads of gold and silver in the cases by the wall. Hey, I’ve been here before, ah, they are burial gifts from Egyptian tombs. And there are even jewels and gems. But what is this big black thing in the middle of the room? Hmm…what could it be? Let’s have a feel…urgh…pretty cold, like…like stone. Another figure? Lying down this time? No, it’s too blocky for that. This thing up here…could be a lid. (Joe tries to push the lid out of the way.) It can be moved. Now I know what it is, it’s a stone…a stone coffin, a sarcophagus. Belonging to a pharaoh probably. Am I seeing things? Isn’t something glowing inside of it? I just have to…push the lid a little further. What did I hit my foot on then? A kerosene lamp! Right when I need it. Luckily I always have matches with me in my pocket. Hmm…there they are. The lamp is lit. Now I can light up the sarcophagus. Wow, oh boy, a mummy, and quite the specimen. It has to be a royal mummy, with a golden mask. What is that, lying there on the mummy? A black rope? Huh? Am I just imagining it, or does…the rope move. That…that’s not a rope at all, it’s a snake. Stay, stay, stay back you beast. It’s rising up, it’s huge. A huge, black cobra. Help! Stay calm, Joe, very calm and step back. Slowly and carefully. Whoops! I almost tripped over that. That’s…that’s the professor! I almost forgot the snake. It’s gone.

Articus: Joe…is that you?

Joe: Yeah, it’s me. What happened? Why are you lying on the ground?

Articus: I…I can’t remember. Did I fall or did someone knock me out? Suddenly everything went black.

Joe: Come, let me help you up, professor. So, we were talking over the telephone. You said you had discovered something important. Something very important.

Articus: Ah yes, the papyrus. I’ve got it here in the pocket of my jacket. Right here.

Joe: Aha. Huh?

Articus: It’s gone!

Joe: Right, so someone stole it.

Articus: He he he he, doesn’t matter.

Joe: What?

Articus: I copied the papyrus very closely.

 Joe: He he he.

Articus: Seems it was a wise precaution.

Joe: Uh huh.

Articus: And I’ve hidden the drawing, err, in the sarcophagus. Where is it, where is it…there! There we go, a good hiding place, hmm, after all the papyrus was hidden here for centuries. Joe, what are you waiting for? Take the lamp and come look at this.

Joe: Huh, looks like a map.

Articus: Part of a map.  Judging from my notes, there should be four pieces.

Joe: Eh, four map pieces.

Articus: Exactly. Clues to where the magic ruby of Ramses is hidden.

Joe: Ah, and this ruby, does it really have magic powers?

Articus: So it is said. Ramses the fourth was given it by the god Horus.

Joe: Horus? Who is that?

Articus: The god of the world or sun.

Joe: Aha.

Articus: You’ve seen the mummy of Ramses the fourth already; it’s here in its sarcophagus. But the spot in the headdress where the ruby was supposed to be...

Joe: (A snake hisses) Professor…professor…professor!

Articus: I’d like to return the ruby to the pharaoh, oh, and all the people that would be able to see it at the museum here.

Joe: Careful professor, don’t move. There is a snake behind you.

Articus: A snake? A Naja Naja?

Joe: What?

Arcticus: A Naja Naja, Cobra, also known as spectacled cobra. They’re very venomous.

Joe: Yes, yes, I think it’s best you don’t move.

Articus: How come?

Joe: Because of the Naja or…or cobra.

Articus: Ha ha ha ha, but Joe, no no no, that is just Cleopatra.

Joe: Cleopatra?

Articus: My tame cobra.

Joe: And, and this…umm…Cleopatra, she doesn’t bite?

Articus: Sure she does, though not every person. Sometimes I think that she was sent to my excavation by Ramses the fourth to help me.

Joe: Yes, very, very reassuring.

Articus: Joe, we have to go to Egypt immediately.

Joe: Understood, but where should we start the search for the ruby?

Articus: The map tells us where. Hmm…this is the Nile, there is an x on the eastern side, and the statue points there too. I think I know what site this refers to.

Joe: And that is?

Articus: It is Abu Simbel, west of Assuan, a place in the desert that is shrouded in mystery. That is where we will begin our research.

(A door slams shut)

Joe: What was that?

Articus: That had to be the door to the museum, it slammed shut.

Joe: That means someone was still here. I think we need to hurry. Whoever stole that papyrus from you, professor, they won’t have any noble intentions.

Narrator: And Joe Freeman was more than right in having these concerns. A short time later, a telephone call was made from a small unremarkable café close to the museum.

Slyboots: Hello? M-m-m-mr. Hates? This is Slyboots. I’ve taken the…eh…the papy…umm…the papy…eh, you know, from the professor. Yeah, yeah…he he…it was childs play. A small tap was enough. Heh…yeah, heh…I’ve got plenty of practice in that, ehe he, being a former prize fighter. Oh yeah, I’ve made a small mistake, boss. The professor has a copy of the papy…eh, the thingy…ehrm…he w-w-wants to head out with this Joe Freeman guy tomorrow. Luckily, I could listen in on them. Yes…yeah, yeah….we’ll be faster than them, I’ll stake my right arm on that. Yes…yeah Mr. Hates, you’ll get the jewel, no m-m-matter the cost. I’ll m-m-make sure of that. The ruby of R-Ramses will be the crown jewel of you c-collection of rare gemstones. Yes…yes, boss. Talk to you later.

Narrator: Different people make their travel preparations this night. Joe Freeman and professor Articus head out early next morning as planned. They have no idea of the dangerous race they have entered. They travel over water to Nuweiba, the Egyptian habour city at the Red Sea, but there they switch to a very special airship.

Joe: Heh, nothing but sand under us. Even with the expedition vehicle we’d only have made slow progress here, professor.

Articus: Correct, Joe. The idea with the hot air balloon was brilliant.

Joe: Thank you, and with the balloon we’ll just look like harmless tourists.

Articus: Yes, ha ha, that is another benefit. Good work, Joe.  And your friend, the pilot, is waiting for us with all our equipment in Luxor. Simply splendid.

Joe: We’ve had luck so far, and if it continues like that…wait, can you hear that noise too, professor?

Articus: No, what is it?

Joe: This noise, psss, listen. A hiss. Hey, our balloon doesn’t have a hole, does it? We’d get stuck in the desert, then.

Articus: A hole? You, you mean…

Joe: Yeah, someone could have damaged the balloon. It’s probably for the best that I climb up and try to find that hole as fast possible.

Articus: Be careful though, Joe.

Joe: Yeah, will do. (Joe climbs the balloon) So…right…strange, I can’t find anything, and the noise is gone.

Articus: Anyway Joe, I wanted to say that two men caught my eye on the ship while travelling across the sea.

Joe: Mine too. You mean the two guys who were always trying to stay suspiciously close to us?

Articus: Exactly! One of them seemed kind of familiar. I mean the one with the monocle over his eye, the one who was constantly keeping his left hand hidden.

Joe: Really?

Articus: Yes, and then there was also a nosey lady with sunglasses. She was constantly asking me suspicious questions.

Joe: Darn, I just can’t find anything. Watch out, I’m coming back down!

Articus: Not so fast Joe, the basket is already wobbling dangerously.

Joe: There, there it was again, the noise.

Articus: Here? Close to me? And not up on the balloon?

Joe: Nah ah.

Articus: I just remembered something, I…

Joe: Well, what you know, professor, the hissing almost appears to be coming for your equipment pack.

Articus: Yes… yes, I, eh…. I just wanted to explain that to you, Joe.

Joe: Oh professor, maybe would you be so kind to open the backpack?

Articus: …Uh… yes… If you insist, Joe. I may just as well show it to you.

Joe: Well, there’s your problem, a blind passenger who also is making unsettling noises.

Articus: Cleopatra.

Joe: Mmh.

Articus: Yes, I have brought her on every expedition so far. Maybe… maybe she will come in handy, somehow.

Joe: Huh, how should a snake be of any help? Let’s better take a look at the map, professor.

Articus: Yes, splendid idea. Here… here it is.

Joe: Hmm, that drawing, professor, it looks like a horned animal.

Articus: Correct, Joe. That is Khnum, the god with the rams head.

Joe: A god with the head of a ram?

Articus: Yes, the Egyptian gods are usually depicted with animal heads.

Joe: Aha. And the place that has been marked on the map?

Articus: Yes… hmm… Judging from our compass, we should almost be there.

Joe: Aha. Ah, look, professor.

Articus: Where?

Joe: Down there, in the sand.

Articus: Incredible, very interesting.

Joe: Yes.

Articus: That looks like big boulders.

Joe: Yes.

Articus: I do not believe that something like that would occur naturally. Maybe it is a so far unknown building.

Joe: That would be terrific.

Articus: Uhuh.

Joe: I‘ll prepare everything for landing immediately.

Articus: Yes.

Narrator: Joe quickly turns off the burner, the air in the balloon cools and the updraft gets smaller, the balloon slowly floats down. The balloon lands with a soft bump in the desert. The two of them quickly leave the balloon. The professor immediately heads for the stones that they saw from above. Joe on the other hand quickly fills the ballast bags that are attached to the basket, and help keep the balloon on the ground. There is plenty of sand for that here.

Joe: Have you found anything yet, professor?

Articus: No, nothing yet.

Joe: And what about back there? Have you been there already?

Articus: No, let’s take a look together.

Joe: Aha! Phewh, it’s really hot. Maybe we have passed it already?

Articus: I don’t know. Observed up close, these stones appear to be ordinary cliffs.

Joe: Yes, unfortunately. Maybe we just saw a fata morgana from the balloon, which was a big pile of sand in reality.

Articus: Yes, it might be. That kind of optical illusions are very common here.

Joe: Do we keep on searching?

Articus: No. Then we better head back to the balloon.

Joe: Your backpack has gone up, professor. Should I close it again?

Articus: What? I, I’ll better take a look for myself if… Oh no, Cleopatra!

Joe: What’s wrong with her?

Articus: She has disappeared!

Joe: (Sarcastically) Oh what a pity.

Articus: Maybe she slithered out when I put the backpack down over there.

Joe: Oh no, professor, we were in so many places, you can’t possibly mean that we should search for Cleopatra in all of them? A snake! In the desert sand!

Articus: You can bet I do! I am not leaving this place without my Cleopatra!

Joe: I can’t believe it… Then we’ll better keep out search op, before it gets dark.

Articus: Mmh.

(A long time later.)

Articus: Have we been here already, Joe?

Joe: I don’t know, maybe hours ago. Everything looks the same.

Articus: Joe! Underneath the sand here, those are stone tiles!

(The stone tiles open up.)

Joe: Watch out, professor! Get back!

Articus: Thanks Joe. That was close.

Joe: You can say that again.

Articus: If you had not pulled me back, I would have fallen into that snake pit.

Joe: Brrr, take a look at that, professor. Down there, it’s just crawling with snakes and scorpions.

Articus: Mmhmm.

Joe: Lots of Cleopatras. But where did this pit appear from all of the sudden?

Articus: A hidden mechanism.

Joe: Aha.

Articus: The stone tile in the ground moved to the side. The ancient Egyptians thought of a lot of diabolical traps for grave robbers.

Joe: For grave robbers?

Articus: Yes. It is said that death quickly comes to the ones who disturb the peace of the Pharaoh.

Joe: But that means… that means…

Articus: Exactly, Joe, we have found something. And Cleopatra is here too.

Joe: He he, nice… Astounding, I would never have been able to tell her apart from the others.

Articus: She probably just wanted to show us the way. Show the way, hmm? Joe, look over there, in the cliffs. It looks like someone carved an entrance into the rocks.

Joe: You ae right. I have a torch in my backpack.

Articus: Let’s light it and go inside.

Joe: Uhuh.

(They head into the tomb.)

Joe: Amazing! Ha, decorated pillars and walls. Where are we, professor?

Articus: It appears to be a tomb.

Joe: Aha.

Articus: Let us better keep track of where we are going. Some tombs had a layout like a maze which you could not find you way out of again.

Joe: Ugh, what a pleasant thought, being stuck in here in the cold darkness for all eternity. Aha, here the hallway is turning a corner.

Articus: Slow down, Joe. There are also tombs with deep pits that suddenly open underneath your feet. Or pillars that collapse.

Joe: Huh, better keep my eyes open.

Articus: Mmhmm.

Joe: Oh, but the only think that is waiting for us here is… is another room.

Articus: That must be that actual grave chamber.

Joe: Ah yes.

Articus: Look, Joe. A grave stele, look at the hieroglyphs.

Joe: And over there, an open sarcophagus. Just like the one back at the museum.

Articus: Yes. Move the torch so we can look inside it, joe.

Joe: Okay. Brrr, a mummy.

Articus: Well yes, but not particular well preserved. And any clues towards a second piece of papyrus are nowhere to be found.

Joe: But, eh, maybe underneath the mummy?

Articus: No, no no, no no! We should better not touch it. Otherwise it might crumble to dust.

Joe: Uhuh. Still, I have the gut feeling that the second papyrus is hidden here somewhere.

Articus: Mmhmm. Just where?

Joe: Eh, what do the hieroglyphs mean here on this pillar, professor?

Articus: Well, the grave stele next to me has the name Horus is written on it. The one over there says Anubis and the one back there says Thot. They are all important gods.

Joe: Ah yes. But what does this say? I mean here, right next to the mummy.

Articus: Well, these are also hieroglyphs. Each picture stands for a specific letter.

Joe: And?

Articus: The picture that looks like a cup is a K. the bow an H. The wavy line an N. the little bird a U, and the bird of prey an M.

Joe: And what does that say?

Articus: Khnum. The name Khnum.

Joe: Khnum? Isn’t that the god with the ram’s head which was depicted on our papyrus?

Articus: Yes. Wait a minute, Joe, that is it!

Joe: Ehm, we have to take a closer look at the grave stele.

Articus: Exactly. Maybe, maybe… it does not move, how come? Or maybe it is hollow inside.

Joe: No, you are mistaken.

Articus: Pity.

Joe: The eye of the bird of prey, here on the pillar. I mean the last letter, the M, it’s far too large.

Articus: Joe! The eye! It’s hollow, there is something inside it.

Joe: Yes… yes, one moment, professor, I’ll get it out.

Articus: Be careful.

Joe: Amazing, a rolled up piece of papyrus.

Articus: Let’s take a look at it.

Joe: A map, it matches up perfectly with our first one.

Articus: Except that this time there is a different god depicted on it. And the red cross is higher up on the Nile. It is placed in the Valley of the Kings. I must make a copy of the second papyrus immediately.

(An engine can be heard in the distance.)

Joe: Something made a noise outside. It almost sounded as if… a plane landed. Better hurry up with the tracing, professor.

Articus: Yes yes yes, I will be done in a minute. There! And I will put the copy with Cleopatra in my backpack.

Joe: Someone is coming closer.

Mr. Hates: You are right. Greetings, gentlemen.

Articus: Now I’ve never, you are one of the two men from the ship.

Mr. Hates: Well observed.

Joe: And you haven’t brought your friend?

Mr. Hates: Oh, he is not my friend, rather… rather… my assistant. Have you found anything of interest here?

Joe: Most certainly, a snake pit.

Mr. Hates: Oh, ha ha ha, I have already seen that.

Articus: Oh? We have the most remarkable find right here.

Mr. Hates: Really? I knew it, show it to me.

Joe: Professor?

Articus: Take a look in the sarcophagus over there.

Mr. Hates: I’ll do that right away. Ugh, a mummy. Nothing else? What a hideous sight.

Joe: Look, professor, the scare made him take his hand out of his pocket, the one that he has been hiding this whole time. Hmm, it’s not a hand at all, but a… a steel hook.

Articus: Oh, now I remember who he is. Admit it, you are Mr. Hates! The criminal collector. I even know how you lost your hand. You lost in India, where you tried stealing the maharaja’s biggest diamond.

Mr. Hates: Ha ha ha ha, bullseye. Nice to know that people have heard of me. And now hands up. And hand over the papyrus.

Joe: A pistol. Damn, we left our weapons in the balloon.

Mr. Hates: Now give me the papyrus already, professor, you have it in the pocket of your jacket.

Joe: Better do as he says, professor, that man would stop at nothing.

Articus: If it has to be so. Here.

Mr. Hates: Thank you.

Articus: Had I just put it in my backpack too.

Mr hates. Now I have the papyrus. But this time I’ll better be on the safe side. You have probably made a copy of the papyrus, or what?

Articus: Erh… no… why should I?

Mr. Hates: Hand me your backpack, professor.

Articus: How? Why? Here.

Mr. Hates: Hmm. There’s a snake inside it, good thing that I dropped it. He he he he, the beast must have escaped from the snake pit. At least I’m now sure that you haven’t been able to hide anything. And now I’ll be leaving you.

Joe: We ain’t gonna miss you.

Mr. Hates: No? But you’ll probably be missing my biplane, because I’ll be flying off in that. You’ll never be able to leave this place.

Articus: Why?

Mr. Hates: Ehe he he, ha ha ha, because I have cut up your hot air balloon. This time I’ll be faster that you two. I hope that you have brought enough water, so you don’t die of thirst. You can also try to leave on foot. (Mr. hates laughs manically and he leaves the tomb.)

Articus: He’s gone.

Joe: Yes. But now I hear a car approaching.

Articus: This place is almost a busy as central station.

Joe: You can say that again. We should better hide, that way we won’t get ambushed twice.

Articus: Absolutely, Joe. Come over here, behind the grave stele.

Linda: Yuck, a snake pit, almost fell in it too. Hello? Anybody there?

Articus: The woman with the sunglasses, she was on the ship too.

Linda: Hello?

Articus: Maybe she is on the hunt for the ruby as well?

Joe: If so, it won’t be a fun trip for her anymore.

Linda: H-hello? Is there really no one?

“Ghost”: No, only the ghost of a mummy. And the ghost tells you, you people who hunt for treasure, but here you’ll only find death…

Linda: (Linda screams) No, I have to get out of here.

Articus: Joe, that was too much, she ran straight into the pillar. Looks like she knocked herself unconscious.

Joe: Let’s take a look.

Articus: A pretty girl. Do you think she is hurt?

Joe: Nah, I don’t think so. There you go, she’s waking up.

Linda: Ugh, that was dumb… and I don’t even believe in ghosts. That was not a good prank.

Joe: I’m sorry, but what were you doing here? Who are you?

Linda: Eh, Linda, Linda Lovely.

Joe: Linda Lovely? That Name seems familiar, somehow.

Articus: Doesn’t matter. Linda, could you drive us to Luxor with your car? We have to get there as fast as possible.

Linda: Mmhmm, of course.

Joe: Linda Lovely, now I remember, that’s the name of that pesky journalist.

Linda: Oh, my head. Journalist, yes. Pesky, no. I wanted to write an article about the excavations in Egypt and I noticed you on the ship, so I simply followed you.

Joe: Very interesting.

Articus: Joe, I think we can trust her.

Joe: Hmm.

Articus: We are on the search for a third piece of papyrus. We need four of them to find the famous ruby of Ramses.

Linda: (Giggels) So my nose wasn’t lying, this is going to be a real scoop.

Joe: Yes, but only if we manage to find the hiding place before Mr. Hates does.

Articus: Well, what are we waiting for? Off to the Valley of the Kings! Luckily Cleopatra kept my things safe.

Narrator: A trip at breakneck speed though the desert starts. The journalist Linda Lovely drives her desert truck so fast that you would think she wanted to win a desert rally. Only when she’s so exhausted that she can’t keep her eyes open any more, lets she Joe Freeman take the wheel. They drive through the night, and the next morning they arrive at Luxor. An hour later a small airplane takes off. Billy Speed is the pilot, one of Joe Freeman’s friends. On board we have Joe, the professor and, of course, Linda. They fly to the other side of the Nile and land in a hidden place in the Valley of the Kings. Billy will be waiting for them there. Our adventurers though head out to search on foot.

Linda: How many graves are there here, professor?

Articus: Well, Linda, we don’t know exactly. Not all have been discovered yet.

Joe: And, eh, how many have they found so far?

Articus: Only about… 40… 50…

Linda: 50? It’ll be weeks before we have searched them all.

Articus: Ha ha ha, no. The papyrus tells us almost exactly where we have to search. And my drawing of it is an exact copy.

Joe: Aha, and where should we look?

Articus: Yes, there is a depiction of a jackal on the papyrus, it is Anubis, the god of death. And his tomb must be somewhere close by.

Linda: Over here! Here, the wall paintings on the entrance of this tomb. Isn’t that an animal with long pointy ears, a dog or…

Articus: A Jackal! Good observation, Linda. Let’s go inside.

(Quiet whispering can be heard in the background.)

Joe: Wait, there is already someone inside the tomb.

Linda: What?

Articus: You are right.

Joe: I already have a suspicion who it might be. Let’s sneak a little closer.

Articus: Good, let’s do that.

Joe: Stop, we’ll be able to hide in this niche.

Linda: Yes, good idea.

Mr. Hates: Can’t you for once use your head, and not just your fists?

Joe: Thought so, it’s Mr. Hates and his henchman.

Slyboots: But why should I g-g-go in first, Mr. Hates?

Mr. Hates: Why not, you idiot? You have probably never heard of tomb raider traps, or what?

Slyboots: T-t-tomb raider t-t-traps?

Mr. Hates: Unlike you, the old Pharaohs weren’t dropped on their heads as kids.

Slyboots: B-b-but boss.

Mr. Hates: Maybe there’d be a gigantic gas release, or we’ll be buried under falling stones, or a knife shoots out of the ceiling, how should I know?

Slyboots: They probably don’t work anymore.

Mr. Hates: No way. Take a look at the wall over there. The hieroglyphs show you what will happen who enter without permission.

Slyboot: What? I just see a death’s-head.

Mr. Hates: Exactly. I like my head the way it is now.

Slyboots: N-n-now I s-s-see what you mean. You think that the death’s-head is a sign for danger.

Mr. Hates: Definitely, I would bet my life on it. But I already have an idea. We’ll just get ourselves a guide, and we’ll leave it to him to open the grave.

Slyboots: Ha ha ha, yes boss. Let’s send him in first.

Mr. Hates: Come Slyboots, we’ll leave the torch here, we’ll be back soon after all.

Slyboots: Y-y-yes boss.

(Mr. hats and Slyboots leave the tomb.)

Linda: Boy, those guys sure are mean.

Joe: Yes. Hurry up, we’ll have to find the papyrus before they return.

Articus: Mmhmm, they have left us plenty of light for the search after all.

Joe: Hmm, The grave has four smooth pillars and wall paintings on both sides. You take a look at the wall paintings, Ms. Lovely. The professor and I will be taking a look at the pillars.

Linda: Sure.

Articus: Yes, Joe.

Linda: Nothing over here. Nothing here either.

Articus: No, unfortunately.

Joe: Damn.

Linda: What about the stone figure on top of the coffin? The gigantic black dog.

Joe: Yes, I could climb up there and take a look.

Articus: You know, we might actually have to open the grave. Hmm, we just have to figure out how.

Linda: Eh, what is this spear good for? Right here, in front of the coffin.

Joe: No idea.

Linda: Strange, isn’t that a huge chain that goes from the spear into the coffin? I wonder if the spear can be moved.

Joe: Ms. Lovely, what are you doing?

Linda: Nothing, I’ll just try pulling at the spear, the one over here.

(The coffin opens up.)

Articus: Incredible.

Linda: I can’t believe it, now the coffin is open.

Joe: Yes, the chain pulled the lid of the coffin, complete with the stone figure, open. Eh, I’ll climb up and take a look inside.

Articus: Good, Joe. But hurry. We probably do not have a whole lot of time left.

Joe: Don’t… don’t worry.

Linda: Don’t get hurt.

Joe: Sure. Up we go, and I’m already inside. Ms. Lovely, would you please hand me the torch?

Linda: Here.

Joe: Thanks.

Articus: And now? What do you see, Joe?

Joe: A… a skeleton. There is a skeleton inside the grave.

Articus: And nothing else?

Joe: No… wait! There is something underneath it. Something shimmering.

Articus: Yes?

Joe: It’s… eh… yes! It’s a scroll, it’s all white.

Articus: The papyrus!

Joe: So I’ll climb into the sarcophagus and get it out.

Articus: But be careful, Joe.

Joe: Will be, don’t worry. There you go, I’ve already got it.

Linda: What’s that sound?

Articus: Oh no… the lid! It’s closing again! Joe, get out! Hurry!

Linda: Professor, professor, we have to push the spear down again, just like before. (They try pushing down the spear.) No, that isn’t working.

Articus: Joe, for god’s sake, save yourself!

Linda: Too late, the lid has been closed. And the chain broke.

Articus: The curse of the pharaoh. Who knows if we will ever be able to open the grave again.

Linda: And what about Joe? Joe? Joe? It just can’t be true.

Joe: Tsk tsk, Linda, you are crying too soon.

Linda: Joe!

Joe: He he, you’re not getting rid of me that easily. I jumped out at the last second over there. You didn’t see that?

Linda: No.

Articus: Hmm, me neither.

Joe: I also managed to save the papyrus.

Articus: Excellent. Let’s better go out into the bright sunshine to take a look at it.

Joe: Yes. Let’s go… Oh, I like “Linda” better than “Ms. Lovely”. Let’s go.

Linda: Yes.

(They leave the tomb.)

Joe: Ah, finally some fresh air. Here’s the papyrus.

Linda: Look, this time there’s a birds head on it. One with a really long beak.

Joe: Hmm, it could be an ibis.

Linda: Yes.

Articus: You are right, Joe. It’s Thot, the god of wisdom, and the location of the cross is… Would you please hand me the magnifying glass, Joe?

Joe: Yes, here.

Articus: Thank you. Yes, it… eh… it is close to…

Mr. Hates: Hay! What are you doing here?

Linda: Oh no, it’s Mr. Hates and his henchman, and another man in Arab dress.

Joe: Hide the papyrus, professor, hurry!

Articus: Already done.

Joe: And now let’s go, run as fast as you can back to the plane.

Mr. Hates: Stop! Stand still! I said stand still!

Narrator: But the three friends wouldn’t even think about it. Without any hesitation they storm off between the tombs. The three men follow them, cursing and screaming. The professor often stumbles in the deep sand, but he gets back on his feet and keeps running. Finally they discover something with a silver gleam in the distance, the aero plane. Billy must also have spotted then, because he starts the engines and as they jump on board he takes off immediately. They leave Mr. Hates behind underneath them as he is angrily waving his arms. Back in Luxor they only take a short break to catch their breath. After that they head of with their expedition vehicle towards the next location. As the sun sets they have almost arrived. They raise their tent and talk for a long time at the camp fire. They have no idea that someone is listening in on them.

Articus: Would you like another Cup of tea, Linda?

Linda: Oh yes, please, professor Articus. Thanks.

Articus: Here you go.

Joe: What a wonderful star filled night sky.

Linda: Yes, like from a beautiful fairytale. I wonder what awaits for us tomorrow.

Joe: He he he, elementary, Linda, well track down the last piece of papyrus too.

Linda: And then?

Articus: And then we will finally know where the magical ruby of Ramses is hidden.

Joe: We’ll get it, and bring it back to the museum.

Linda: And I’ll write a story about it.

(A Pssch noise is heard.)

Joe: What was that noise coming from the bushes?

Articus: Probably just an animal.

Joe: I guess you’re right. (yawns) Right, time to go to bed for me.

Linda: Yeah, it’s late, I’ll head to bed too.

Joe: Good night.

Linda: Good night.

Articus: Good night, my friends.

Mr. Hates: Yes, just go to sleep. You’ll have a rude awakening tomorrow. Ha ha ha, you won’t leave us in the dust anymore.

Slyboots: He he he, how stupid, they crawl into their beds without a clue. Why don’t we just get the jump on them now?

Mr. Hates: Why? It’d be a waste of time. The professor will lead us to the last papyrus too.

Slyboots: Brilliant, boss!

Mr. Hates: The gemstone belongs to me. It will never be exhibited in a museum!

Slyboots: M-m-mr. Hates, you really are the g-g-greatest. Like how you managed to find the trail of these guys again. He he. And here I almost thought we had lost for good.

Mr. Hates: Nonsense, I don’t give up that easily. A strike here and a stab there, and I get anything I want. (Yawns) Should we head to sleep too? We need to be at our best tomorrow.

Slyboots: Y-yes, and then they’ll never know what hit them, right boss? He he he, good night boss.

Narrator: Joe, Linda and the professor leave at dawn. They study the compass and map again and again, and after many hours, they finally find the site shown on the papyrus. They find themselves in front of an enormous sphinx, marveling. They don’t get a lot of time to wonder at the monument, as they are startled by an unexpected and very suspicious noise.

Linda: Another desert vehicle is coming, that can’t be a coincidence.

Joe: I’m certain it isn’t.

Mr. Hates: Oh, what luck! Joe, the professor and the lovely reporter. Are you here to see this beautiful sphinx?

Articus: You are not really surprised, are you?

Joe: You and your henchman better move on, Mr. Hates.

Mr. Hates: Ha ha, too funny, young friend. In this country, anyone can visit the tombs of the pharaohs. Right, Slyboots?

Slyboots: R-r-right, Mr. Hates!

Mr. Hates: See? I’ve even got my film camera with me. I can even show you the film, if you want.

Joe: You…you…you…you sanctimonious criminal, you…

Linda: Joe, just let him. We’ll just outsmart him and get away with the papyrus right under his nose.

Articus: Linda is right, please follow me, Joe.

Joe: Well, alright.

Articus: Mr. Hates, just for your information, we will go look at the statue over there to the left. Perhaps you can look at the headdress of the sphinx.

Mr. Hates: The headdress? Hmm, it would be a really good hiding place up there, but perhaps a little too obvious.

Articus: Ha ha, we are all helping where we can.

Joe: But professor?

Mr. Hates: Slyboots, you’ll climb up there.

Slyboots: B-b-but I’m not good with heights, no good at all. That thing scares m-m-me. Is it supposed to be a lion or a m-m-man?

Mr. Hates: It doesn’t matter. It’s certainly a statue, so it can’t do you anything.

Slyboots: But…

Mr. Hates: No ifs or buts. We’ll look where it’s the easiest to get up.

Slyboots: Then I’ll have to… Watch out, Mr. Hates! There suddenly appeared a hole in the ground. Do you see that? It’s full of snakes!

Mr. Hates: We already know that kind of trap.

Linda: What was that? Is there a snake here too?

Joe: Of cause. It’s in the professor’s backpack.

Linda: What?

Articus: Don’t scare Linda like that, Joe.

Joe: Aw…

Articus: My pet cobra Cleopatra is completely harmless.

Linda: Harmless? A cobra? Huh, I hope I don’t have to pet it.

(The professor laughs a little.)

Slyboots: I’m up, Mr. Hates. It all just looks like rocks from up here.

Articus: Thye will not find anything up there. That sphinx was first built much later. No, we have to look at the really old parts of this complex. The obelisk over there would be a good example. Follow me, this way, up the stone ramp.

Linda: Oh, amazing! You first truly realize the size of the obelisk when you stand right in front of it.

Joe: It’s covered in hieroglyphs.

Articus: Oh, I think we might have discovered something. Down here the name Thot is written.

Joe: Thot?

Articus: Uhuh.

Joe: Isn’t that the god that’s depicted on the papyrus? The… eh… ibis?

Articus: Exactly. We will have to take a closer look at this obelisk. (Mr. Hates and Slyboots can be heard in the background.) Oh, good grief, I had almost forgotten about those two. If I just had a little more time. The papyrus must be hidden here somewhere.

Joe: Okay, professor, You’ll keep searching, and we’ll distract the two gangsters. I already have an idea how we’ll do it.

Slyboots: Should I get the dynamite, boss? I’ll blow all of this up…

Joe: Listen up, Linda, they’ll probably be here in a few minutes. Do you see the flat stone over there? The stone that sticks out so oddly.

Linda: Eh, on the side, between the sphinx’s feet?

Joe: Yes.

Linda: Mmhmm. Weird, it almost looks like a switch.

Joe: Just what I thought. Now well do as if we had discovered something there.

Linda: Ah, I get it, that’ll make them curious, and will keep them away from the professor.

Joe: You’ve got it.

Linda: They’re coming. Oh Joe, we have discovered something, we’ll have to tell the professor right away. Maybe this will open the tomb.

Joe: Shhhhsss… The enemy is listening.

Linda: Oh, I didn’t hear you coming, Mr. Hates. We were… we were just talking about the… the back of the sphinx.

Mr. Hates: Oh, stop trying to pull my leg. You were looking in a completely different place, you were looking at the stone right there.

Linda: At the switch? Huh, oh Joe, why did is just let that slip out.

Joe: Be quiet, Linda.

Mr. Hates: Ah, too late. Slyboots?!

Slyboots: Yes boss?

Mr. Hates: You’ll try to move the stone switch.

Slyboots: Okay b-b-boss. It’ll be a piece of cake thanks to my m-m-muscles.

Mr. Hates: No, no, no, no, wait a minute, one moment.

Slyboots: Yes, what’s wrong, boss?

Mr. Hates: I’d better be standing in front of the sphinx. It seems safer to me to be standing over there.

Slyboots: Eh, safer? Why, boss?

Mr. Hates: I mean I can observe everything from there.

Slyboots: Aha.

Mr. Hates: Then I’ll tell you when to start.

Slyboots: Okay, b-b-boss.

Joe: I hope we haven’t made a mistake and maybe led Mr. Hates on the right track.

Linda: But the professor said…

Mr. Hates: Alright, Slyboots.

Slyboots: Yes.

Mr. Hates: Nnnnnnnow!

Slyboots: Y-yes, boss! (Slyboots strains himself, but nothing happens.) Ugh, I’m pulling all I can. Oh damn it, it’s not moving an i-i-inch.

Linda: Ha ha ha ha, I don’t think we have to worry about this.

Slyboots: Stupid switch! Boss? And what if I push it back?

Mr. Hates: Do so!

Slyboots: There… (The switch moves.) I think it moved a little, boss.

Mr. Hates: Good.

Slyboots: Ugh, it works. (The mechanism triggers something.)

Mr. Hates: That almost killed me.

Slyboots: Boss?

Linda: What just happened, Joe?

Joe: Incredible, the switch just shot out an entire part of the tomb.

Linda: But it wasn’t just stones flying through the air.

Joe: No, there was something else. Something almost nightmarish.

Linda: But what?

Mr. Hates: Slyboots? Slyboots?

Slyboots: Yes, boss?

Mr. Hates: I’m suffocating under this hideous mummy.

Joe: There’s our answer, Linda.

Slyboots: Just a moment, boss.

Linda: Buried under a mummy. You almost feel sorry for him.

Mr. Hates: Slyboots?! Boots!!!! Free me from this monster, now!

Slyboots: Yes, boss, I’m on my way, boss. You s-s-sure keep me on my toes.

Linda: Am I dreaming? Look, Joe, the obelisk.

Joe: It’s leaning, all of the sudden.

Articus: Joe! Linda! Hurry! What do you think of this?

Linda: The hiding place!

Joe: Great, professor Articus, you found it.

Articus: Yes. When you move those gray stones, the entire obelisk lifts up a bit.

Joe: Uhuh.

Articus: And here, it’s almost like it’s lying in a box.

Linda: Ah, the papyrus.

Articus: Yes.

Mr. Hates: Hurry up a little more, Slyboots!

Slyboots: I’m working as fast as can, boss. I’m liking m-m-my job less and less, boss.

Articus: They are still occupied. Hurry! Let’s run back to the expedition vehicle.

Linda: Yes.

(The expedition vehicle can be heard starting as Mr. Hates is still complaining in the background.)

Mr. Hates: The Ramses Ruby will be mine!

Narrator: During the hectic, bumpy ride Joe, Linda and the professor try their best to examine the papyrus. It depicts a falcon, the god Horus. And the depiction shows him wearing the ruby on top of his golden mask. After a bit of thinking the professor figures that the mark is located close to Cairo. It’s in the old capital of the kingdom, in Memphis, where the pharaohs were crowned. Without taking any breaks they arrive in Memphis. The professor compares the compass and the papyrus repeatedly, but they just can’t find the given location. Eventually they feel like they are going in circles. As the sun sets, they exhaustedly give up the search. At dawn a scream from Linda wakes the two men. In the dawning light they see a gigantic temple in front of them. They look at the beautiful wall paintings, the obelisks and the grave steles in awe. With a bit of hesitation, Linda and the professor walk up to the massive gate. Just as they have entered Joe Freeman yank them back at the last moment.

Joe: Watch out! Get back!

Articus: Oh my god, that was close.

Joe: Uhuh.

Articus: The stones almost crushed us to death.

Linda: I don’t understand how they could fall down so all of the sudden.

Artucus: It is probably a cleverly thought out stone trap. The ancient Egyptians were masters at that. Admirable!

Linda: I can’t quite share your enthusiasm, professor.

Joe: Me neither, what else is waiting for us?

Articus: Let’s climb over the rocks and take a look.

Linda: Watch out… (A small shriek) Oh god! Here in the niche t-t-there’s a skeleton! And on the other side there’s another one.

Joe: Be careful, this might give away.

Linda: Oh, now it’s just a pile of bones. What a welcoming committee. Strange, there an iron chain going across the hallway here.

Articus: What? An iron chain? Do not touch it, Linda! Avoid touching it at all cost!

Linda: Eh… eh… as you say, professor.

Professor: Take a step back. Luckily I always keep my old shovel tied to my backpack, now I need it. Ehrm, keep a good eye on what happens. I’ll touch the chain now with the shovel.

(It makes a noise and the trap is triggered.)

Linda: The chain, it was tied to a gigantic ax, or maybe it’s a halberd.

Joe: Boy oh boy, if that thing had hit us…

Linda: I don’t want to think of it.

Joe: The edge here… Argh, ay, ay, ay! It’s razor sharp.

Linda: Let’s keep going, before I completely lose my courage.

Joe: There a grave chambers on both sides.

Articus: Yes, ye might examine those at a later time. First we’ll search the parts of the grave complex that are the furthest back, as they are the most secretive.

Linda: Joe? Could you shine some light over here?

Joe: Yes, will do.

Linda: Just a little higher.

Joe: Yes, there.

Linda: That’s good, yes. I think… I think we’re in the right place.

Articus: Yes, there is absolutely no doubt.

Joe: What a huge open room.

Linda: And? Have you seen the two stone crocodile guardians yet? Do you see?

Articus: You are right, I will have to take a closer look. Not too close, they have stone plates with hieroglyphs carved into them.

Joe: And are you able to tell what they are saying, professor?

Articus: Of course. Yes, they are all about Ramses and his magical ruby.

Linda: And behind them, the two gigantic sitting stone figures with god heads. Is that also…?

Articus: Yes Linda, that is also Anubis, the god of death. And the two figures on the right and on the left of the skeleton fit as well.

Linda: But where is the ruby? Maybe we should take a better look at the skeleton. Come on, let’s go!

Joe: Linda, calm down, wait!

(A trap is triggered.)

Joe: No! She’s gone! The skeleton has vanished too!

Articus: But… but look, Joe! Where she stood there is not a transparent glass container. And inside it, the ruby!

Joe: The ruby… And what about Linda? Linda? Where are you?

Linda: Here, behind the wall. The Skeleton turned around with me.

Joe: Turned around? Turned around… the wall can be turned around. Then let’s try it once more.

(The wall turns around again.)

Articus: I don’t understand this, Linda is back with the skeleton, but not Joe, and the ruby are gone.

Linda: That… That was scary, huh, my knees are all wobbly. I just have to sit down for a minute.

Articus: That is all fine and well, but how do get now get Joe and the ruby back?

(Someone can be heard coming closer.)

Mr. Hates: Good question, professor.

Linda: Mr. Hates and his henchman Slyboots. Hey! What do you want of me? Let go of me…

Mr. Hates: I’ll tell you one thing, Professor.

Linda: Get your hands of me!

Mr. Hates: Get the ruby back here, as fast as possible; otherwise things will get pretty ugly for the young lady here.

Slyboots: Yes, p-p-pretty u-u-ugly.

Linda: Joe! Help me!

Mr. Hates: Ha ha, ha ha, I already have my pistol up against her neck.

Slyboots: And it’s l-l-loaded too.

Joe: Professor, this is a secret spinning door, you have to push the skeleton.

Articus: Ah, I understand.

Joe: But don’t step on the stone plate that the skeleton stands on; otherwise you’ll be turning with it.

Articus: Aha… A push, don’t step on the stone plate… will do.

(The wall turns again.)

Mr. Hates: What an entrance, Joe Freeman and my ruby. Slyboots, get me the jewel.

Linda: Joe! No, you must not give him the stone! We have been searching for it for so long.

Slyboots: B-b-better not be a hero, g-g-girl. I’ll be right back, boss. Hand over the ruby!

Joe: Here, but let Linda go.

Slyboots: I’ve got the ruby, M-m-mr. Hates.

Mr. Hates: Yes, finally, the ruby of Ramses. Now it’s mine, forever. (Mr. Hates lets out an evil laugh.) I have won the hunt. Come, Slyboots, we’re leaving. And I warn the three of you, don’t dare following us, otherwise we will be forced to use our pistols. (Mr. Hates lets out another evil laugh.) A good player knows when he has lost.

Slyboots: Ha ha, ha ha, very nice, boss, I-I-I’ll have to r-r-remember that.

(The two crooks leave the temple.)

Linda: Ugh, then I guess I’m not a good loser, I’m horribly disappointed.

Joe: Me too. The ruby of Ramses in the hands of that gangster, what a horrible thought.

Articus: Ah, you can say that out loud. One moment, what is that, standing over there in the dark corner?

Joe: Huh? A sarcophagus. It’s all black.

Linda: And without any decoration, or maybe I’m mistaken? There is something on top of it. Ugh! A snake, just as black.

Articus: It’s Cleopatra! I have an idea. Hurry, Joe, Linda, help me open the lid.

Joe: Will do.

Linda: It’s pretty heavy.

Articus: You can set it down over here.

Linda: I… I can’t believe it, there is another ruby inside the sarcophagus.

Articus: But, but this time it’s the real one! Cleopatra was smarter that we were.

Joe: I can’t believe it, she’s an incredible snake.

Linda: The other stone was just supposed to distract from the real one.

Articus: You are right. I should have thought of it on my own. The black sarcophagus was the hint, it symbolizes the night.

Linda: And the ruby, with its bright glow, symbolizes the day.

Articus: Yes, light and shadow, light and dark belongs together. Even the eyes of Horus, the hawk god, are the sun and moon as well.

Joe: Mmmhmm. But what if we are fooled and the other ruby is the real one?

Articus: We will know when we take the stone out. Now!

(Joe and Linda are awestruck.)

Linda: Look how bright it became all of the sudden.

Joe: All of the sudden the entire temple is bathed in a red light.

Articus: Mmhmm, that’s the proof. Only the real ruby of Ramses would glow like that. Let’s finally bring it back to its original home, with the mummy of Ramses the fourth. Maybe it’ll unleash all of its magical powers there.

Narrator: The journey home for our three adventurers take place under a lucky star, or perhaps under the protection of a certain gemstone? When the ruby of Ramses is finally put on display at the museum it causes a great stir. The visitors flock to the tiny museum. Everyone is fascinated with the shining glow of the ruby. Joe and Linda though are sitting together at the fireplace in Joe’s office a little later and are reading the paper.

Joe: Huh, there are still articles about the sensational rediscovery of the ruby of Ramses.

Linda: Really?

Joe: About our adventures in Egypt, in excruciating detail. There! There is even a photo of Cleopatra.

Linda: Sure.

Joe: Huh, what does it say here? I can’t believe it.

Linda: What now, Joe?

Joe: Take a look at this: “As we know from a reliable source, the famous adventurer Joe freeman and our efficient journalist Linda Lovely have been engaged.

Linda: So what, Joe?  Isn’t it true?

Joe: It is, but where do the people at the newspaper know that from… Wait a minute, I’ll look up who wrote this article.

Linda: Joe, that’s not necessary, you know…

Joe: Here’s the name, Linda Lovely… Linda?! You? Really, Linda, you are still a pesky journalist. He he he. But I have to give you one thing, it’s a true story.

Linda: Exactly, and that magical ruby of Ramses probably had a part in our engagement.

Joe: Certainly. Well, you are lucky to have me.

Linda: Why?

Joe: Elementary, with the exciting adventures I head out on, you’ll never run out of material for your articles.

Linda: He he, especially not if I come along on those adventures.

Joe: How true.

Linda: It might be dangerous at times, but it’ll never be dull.

Joe: He he, you are probably right about that.

*huh* (Jaw drops to floor) *huh*

Confirmed confirmed - no longer fan fiction!

I am 99% sure the next one won't have continuity with this one.

That was a lot of fun to read, I listened to the German audio along with it - much thanks for translating, again! I didn't expect Joe/Johnny and Linda/Pippin to be engaged at the end, hahaha.

Knowing what the switch on the Sphinx Secret Surprise set does, all I could think when it got to this part was oh boy.

I like how the story revolved around finding the different maps featured in the sets, and even stayed true to what was printed on the real pieces. These audio dramas pretty much always stay close to the sets, really - fun stuff.

Sorry to be so slow to say anything, but yes, I can confirm that there is no continuity between the two.

There is so little continuity that it’s almost surprising. They don’t use the same names at all. The first one takes place 1910, the second one takes place is 1925. The two are not even the same type of audio thing, if I have to be honest. The Egypt one is clearly an audio drama, more or less like a cartoon without the visuals. The Orient Expedition of is more of an audio book, with only one voice actor serving as narrator and the voices of all the characters.

Yes, the attention to detail of the toys is actually quite funny. Admittedly I don’t have the sphinx set, but I do have the set with the spear and chain mechanism. It’s nice to see some fairly subtle nods toward how the toys work.

(Man hört Papier knistern.)

„Unglaublich!“

„Johnny Thunder? Dr. Kilroy?

Zweites Kapitel: Venedig, wo alles begann.

„Unser letztes treffen liegt lange zurück, Dr. Kilroy.

Dr. Kilroy! Miss Pippin! Kommen sie schnell her!

(Man hört Fußtritten.)

Plötzlich drangen von weit her Geräusche an ihren Ohren.

„Giovanni!“ Stellte Dr. Kilroy fest.

„Habt Geduld, Lord Sinister.

Viertes Kapitel: Ein geheimnisvoller Stein.

„Tygurahs Sonnenstein?“ Fragte Miss Pippin neugierig.

Gar nichts.

„Ergibt euch, Maharadscha!“ Rief Babloo mutig.

„Was machst du da, Johnny?“ Fragte Miss Pippin erstaunt.

Siebtes Kapitel: Ein geheimnisvoller Eis Altar.

„Johnny! Wen sie weitergehen wird die Brücke einstürzten. Was jetzt?“

Achtes Kapitel: Im verlassenen Tempel.

„Alles in Ordnung?

Zehntes Kapitel: Der magische Korridor.

„Euer Abenteuer endet hier.

(Tiefer Atemzug.) Was nun?“ Fragte Miss Pippin erleichtert.

LEGO Orient Expedition: The search for the golden dragon.

First chapter: A mysterious silk cloth.

Our story starts on a sunny morning in June of 1925. In London, the day started just like any other for Dr. Kilroy. He left his house to walk to his job at the London Museum. Dr. Kilroy was nervous and had been so for days. As the expert on Chinese history, he had been tasked with examining a silk cloth. This specific piece of cloth was found in a chest, which had been buried in the garden of Marko Polo’s residence in Venice. Dr. Kilroy could barely wait to get his hands on this extraordinary find. In his office he opened his mail. (Paper crackling can be heard.) Among this he found the envelope with the silk cloth and a letter from Dr. Giovanni, a former colleague from the museum.

“Dear Dr. Kilroy, we found this piece of textile during our excavation. Unfortunately, we were not able to translate the writing. I have full trust in your expertise. Respectfully, Giovanni.”

Dr. Kilroy took his magnifying glass and gave the cloth a thorough examination immediately. He saw a red dot, which had seemingly been placed at random and in addition to that some ancient Chinese lettering. They were barely visible, let alone readable. Dr. Kilroy tried anyways. About an hour later he fell off his chair from sheer surprise.

“Incredible!”

In total confusion he reached for the telephone.

(You hear him using the rotary dial of the phone.)

“Johnny, this is Dr. Kilroy.” He stuttered while out of breath.

“My dear Dr. Kilroy, how are you doing?” Johnny answered, cool and relaxed as always.

“Johnny, I believe I have made a great discovery. Did I say great? I mean gigantic, simply enormous, legendary, extraordinary!”

“Calm down, doctor. Tell me what has happened.”

“I examined a silk cloth that belonged to Marko Polo. On it there is a red dot, which I don’t know the meaning of yet, as well as an inscription. I believe that it’s part of a poem: “On my search for the treasures of the Earth I experienced many adventures. But even during times of danger I kept going further. I bring the greatest secret on my last journey, but I will leave a clue for the adventurer who wisely acknowledges that there is more to discover in this world than just a continent.” The rest is impossible to read, but this verse definitely suggests of something that I had only thought of as a legend until now, the mysterious treasure of Marko Polo.”

“I must say that my curiosity had been piqued. What do you want to do? Venice is such a lovely place in the summer.” Johnny spelled it out for his friend.

“Does that mean you are coming along on this expedition? I knew I could rely on you, Johnny thunder. We should also inform Miss Pippin Reed. I’m convinced that to her, this will be the cover story of the World Magazine.”

“I believe that too. As far as I know she’s in London at the moment. Let’s meet up at her house.”

Two hours later they were knocking on the door of Miss Pippin’s stylish house. (Knocking can be heard.) Surprised, she opened the door.

“Johnny thunder? Dr. Kilroy? What have brought you to me?”

They told her of the discovery of the silk cloth and the planned journey. As expected she was ecstatic to join her friends.

“This story will be of great interest to the magazine’s readers. And if we find the great treasure I will have the story of the year.”

The three friends were already stuffing their luggage and the necessary equipment into an off-road vehicle the next morning. Johnny took his place behind the wheel and then they were on their way to Venice.

Second chapter: Venice, where it all started.

In Venice Dr. Giovanni was impatiently waiting for the tree adventurers.

“It has been quite a while since out last meeting, Dr. Kilroy. And assume that you are Miss Pippin Reed and the daring adventurer Johnny Thunder. Benvenuto.” He said, greeting the friends with a smile.

Marko Polo’s house was not far away. With an astonished look on his face, Dr. Kilroy stepped through the door of the old mansion. (A door can be heard opening.) Johnny was overwhelmed by the splendor of the house.

“Impressive, isn’t it?” Dr. Kilroy read the minds of his friends.

“Marko Polo brought lots of things home from his journeys. Countless have been preserved to this day. I hope we’ll be able to find a clue here.”

“Clue?” Dr. Giovanni asked.

“You heard correctly. I’m searching for the diary of Marko Polo. It should be of great help to me in my examination of the silk cloth that you sent me.”

Both Johnny as well as Miss Pippin thought it was very strange that Dr. Kilroy didn’t tell his colleague the truth, but he probably had a good reason.

“Oh, very well, don’t let me stop you, you’ll find it in the back yard.” Said Dr. Giovanny and left the friends alone.

“Do you not trust him?” Miss Pippin asked.

“Giovanni is an eager man, and I want to take as few risks as possible.” Dr. Kilroy countered. “But now let’s get to work.”

They examined the old books and manuscripts that were stacked up everywhere first. Even after two hours Dr. Kilroy and Miss Pippin weren’t showing any signs of exhaustion. Johnny though was starting to doubt that they would find the solution to the riddle by searching any of the books. So he searched the house until he eventually came to the salon. There, a map that had been painted on a piece of silk cloth and mounted in a frame and was hanging on the wall immediately caught his eye. It was quite small, and clearly very old. Faded writing could be seen in the lower left corner. But the unusual frame with hooks along the edges was a far bigger cause of interest. It gave the impression that something was meant to be attached to it. He recalled the poem in his mind. “But I will leave a clue for the adventurer who wisely acknowledges that there is more to discover in this world than just a continent.” “Of course! More than a continent.” He thought out loud. “Its inhabitants, oceans, valleys and mountains, the different languages and cultures, that must be it! Dr. Kilroy! Miss Pippin! Hurry up and come over here! And bring the silk cloth with you!”

The called hurried to Johnny and gave him the silk cloth. Carefully he took the frame from the wall and placed it on a table. Dr. Kilroy then recognized that the cloth was a continuation of the map. He attached the silk cloth to the kooks on the frame and the continuation of the map became clear before their eyes.

Miss Pippin was ecstatic. “Johnny Thunder, how do you keep doing it?” How did you get this idea?”

“I just kept my eyes open.” Johnny said as if it was a piece of cake to solve the riddle.

“And what now? Where is the clue to the great treasure?” Dr. Kilroy asked unsatisfied. The two maps together showed India, and the red dot showed a place in the south of the country, Johnny explained. “Thake a look at this, Dr. Kilroy. The Chinese writing at the bottom of the map is now clearly readable. Are you able to translate it?”

Slowly, it became clear what a fantastical adventure was in wait for the group of friends.

“But of course, my friend. The writing here says: “Welcome adventurer, you have taken the first step towards the solution of a great riddle. During the years that I spent in China a deep friendship developed between me and the emperor Kublai Kahn. As a sign of our great connection Kublai Kahn gave me a priceless golden dragon. Unfortunately the gift was too big to bring on my journey to Venice. And that is how I decided to leave it in a secret chamber in the emperor’s palace. To open the chamber you will need 3 treasures, which I have hidden across Asia. I want to be sure that it can only be found by a fearless, brave adventurer. If you can gather enough courage, then go out on the journey and find the treasure of the jungle. Venice, 1324, Marko Polo.”

“I think if that’s true we’ll be facing the greatest adventure of all time.” Johnny said.

“I think you are completely correct.” Dr. Kilroy agreed. “I heard about this mysterious treasure a long time ago.”

“On Marko Polo’s trail through Asia.” Miss pippin could already see the headline before her eyes.

With their new find packed among their luggage they left Marko Polo’s house without even wasting a single thought on Dr. Giovanni.

In a dark yard close to Marko Polo’s house Lord Sinister was polishing his monocle. He saw a person approaching in the shadows. (Footsteps can be heard.)

“It’s about time. I must have polished my monocle ten times already.” The lord let out his frustration. “I’m bearing good news.” The person answered as he slowly stepped into the light. It was Dr. Giovanni. He had been eavesdropping and now reported every last detail that he had picked up from the adventurers to Sinister. The Lord let out a satisfied laugh. The treasure of Marko Polo would be a great addition to his private collection. He paid Dr. Giovanni for his services and made the decision to follow the three adventurers. From now on he would follow them like a shadow which they would never be able to get rid of.

Third chapter: The secret of the Jungle.

The journey from Venice to India took an eternity. After traveling for weeks the adventurers arrived at the edge of a jungle in the south of the country. They spent some days in a town to get used to the warm and moist climate and refill their supplies. Dr. Kilroy was warned about the dangers of the jungle by the locals already on the first evening. The jungle was dangerous, just like the strict maharaja who ruled the country. Despite the three warnings they continued their journey into the jungle, although they didn’t even have any clear idea about what they were supposed to look for. Two days later they decided to continue their journey on a small steamer boat. They hid their car and moved their equipment to the boat.

“If it just wasn’t so hot.” Miss Pippin moaned. But soon she had other things to think about, because the further down the river they went the more beautiful the landscape became. Miss Pippin took every opportunity to photograph exotic trees and brightly feathered birds. But then exhaustion spread among the adventurers. They decided to take a break and tied the boat to a tree. Suddenly they heard noises coming from far away. It sounded like someone was being chased. Quickly they hid behind some of the dense vegetation that was growing everywhere. They were able to see a small scrawny boy being surrounded by Indian guards from their hiding place without being noticed. The boy had a monkey on his shoulder and seemed to be terrified of the wild guards. When Johnny saw how the boy was being treated he was barely able to contain himself. He immediately wanted to jump out of their hiding place and rush to help him. Before he was able to jump out, the ground started shaking. An elephant burst out through the underwood, on its back was the maharaja and to their surprise, Lord Sinister was sitting at his side.

“Sinister is already on our heels.” A very angry Johnny whispered. “How did he know about our expedition?”

“Giovanni!” Dr. Kilroy acknowledged. “He must have been eavesdropping on us.”

“Now we’ll have to be prepared for anything. Apparently Sinister has become friends with the Maharaja. But listen.”

The maharaja leaned down from the elephant and spoke to the boy. “Now, Babloo, friend of all animals, have you found Tygurah’s sunstone?”

“No, but even if I had found it, I wouldn’t hand it over to you. My village needs it more than you do.” The kid replied with a sense of pride, while the monkey was grimacing.

“Rude boy! You will address me as Maharaja or sir!” The rulers screamed. He was clearly up to the standards of Lord Sinister when it came to cruelties.

“Let’s focus on more important things, maharaja.” Lord Sinister interrupted. “I don’t have time for this kind of pettiness.”

“Be patient, Lord Sinister. I just have to take care of some private business here. I only agreed to help you because I’m also interested in the treasure that you are searching for. Ehm, eh, I mean a share of the treasure.” The maharaja said unable to hide the greed in his eyes. “Bring me the rude boy and his stupid monkey!”

Now Johnny had had enough, and was determined to help the boy. He climbed on a tree and tied a rope to a branch of a neighboring tree. At the right moment he swung down from the treetop and grabbed the boy with his monkey. The guards were paralyzed with fear. The maharaja and lord Sinister were utterly baffled. Sinister just managed to catch a glimpse of Johnny.

“Oh no, that was Johnny Thunder. He is part of the troublemakers I told you about. Stop him!”

But Johnny was too quick. Before the guards could do anything he and the boy had disappeared into the jungle.

“Now they are here too. That means that we will have to turn our plan into reality, maharaja.

“We will, we will.” The maharaja grumblingly said.

In a clearing not far from there the friends reunited.

“Thank you for your help, friendly stranger. My name is Babloo.” The boy petted the monkey that was crawling around on his shoulders. “Pampa is also very grateful.”

“Babloo, why are you called the friend of all animals?” Dr. Kilroy asked.

“Well, I have the gift of being able to speak to animals. That is how I tried protecting them from hunters and people like the maharaja.”

“You can speak with animals?” Miss Pippin asked doubtingly.

“Yes Miss.” To prove it he talked to his monkey which immediately jumped on the ground and wanted to shake hands with Miss Pippin.

“Incredible!” Dr. Kilroy said astonished. He had never seen anything like that.

“But why are you here? You don’t look like hunters or tourists.”

“We are searching for a treasure that a European explorer hid here a long time ago. It is of the upmost importance that we find this treasure before the maharaja and Lord Sinister.” Johnny explained.

“Where do you have to go? The jungle is my home, and I know every tree.”

“We are searching for the stinger of the jungle.” Dr. Kilroy explained hopefully.

“Stinger of the jungle? Do you mean the Scorpion Palace?”

“Oh my.”

Fourth chapter: A mysterious stone.

The brave Babloo told the three of them that by the Scorpion Palace, he meant the palace of the maharaja. It lies well-guarded in the middle of the jungle.

“This just stinks of trouble.” Dr. Kilroy replied.

“I could show you the way, but I’m looking for something myself. I have to find Tygurah’s sunstone before it’s too late.”

“Tygurah’s sunstone?” Miss Pippin curiously asked.

“The legend says that the sunstone will bring good weather and will bless the seed. We haven’t had a good harvest in years, and our storages are empty. Because of that we need the stone immediately.” The young Indian said desperately.

“Why haven’t you searched for it sooner?” Johnny asked.

“It is said that that Tygurah guards the stone in service of the gods so well that no one would be able to get past.”

“We can help one another.” Johnny suggested. “Dr. Kilroy and I will search for the sunstone while you escort Miss Pippin to the maharaja’s palace.”

“But of course.” Babloo said. “I will ask my elephant friends Giri and Chaiku for help. They know the jungle like the back of their hand.” And as soon as he had said that, he disappeared though the thicket.

Half an hour later two elephants approached. Babloo was riding on the back of one of them.

“This is Giri and this is Chaiku. They will carry us through the jungle.”

Before anyone could say anything Giri grabbed Miss Pippin with its trunk and put her on its back, while Chaiku lifted Johnny Thunder and Dr. Kilroy.

“Both elephants know the way to the maharaja’s palace. Chaiku will lead you to the area where the sunstone should be hidden first.”

“Do you have any clues for us?” Dr. Kilroy asked.

“According to the legend Tygurah will be close when a roar can be heard coming from the ground.”

“Great.” Dr. Kilroy whispered.

“Very well, Chaiku, show is the way.” Johnny gave the sign to set off.

Johnny thunder and Dr. Kilroy traveled though the dense growth of the Indian jungle for hours, but they only got ahead slowly. Night would soon fall, and because of that they set up camp to continue the search the next day.

“Uhm, doctor, would you gather some firewood, please? But be careful; don’t go too far away, there are many dangers in the area.” Johnny warned his friend.

Dr. Kilroy headed off. I was not easy to find dry wood, so he walked deeper and deeper into the jungle. When he finally had enough and wanted to head back, he realized that he was completely lost. He desperately searched for the way he had come, but without any luck. Suddenly he heard a quiet roar. Could that be Tygurah? His sense of adventure, which often had caused him to get in trouble, had been awakened and he followed the sound. Suddenly the roar stopped. Carefully he peaked through the bush. And at the end of a footbridge he saw an ancient Indian altar, and on it a little yellow light sparkled. Dr. Kilroy climbed up the bridge, walked over to the altar and examined the light with his magnifying glass. It was a beautiful jewel, a gemstone. Its cut was wonderfully and the stone shun brightly. That must be the sunstone. He picked it up, and was astonished by the heat that the stone was radiating. Unexpectedly, the roaring suddenly started again, even louder than before. Behind the path a huge creature with the head of a tiger suddenly appeared out of thin air and reared up in a frightening manner. Let’s get out of here, Dr. Kilroy thought. But to his horror the bridge started collapsing underneath his feet. He jumped and landed hard on the ground. When he looked up again the creature had disappeared. But the roar could still be heard. The doctor ran away as fast as he could. After about ten minutes he ran into someone and fell to the ground. He covered his face with his hands and surrendered to his destiny. But to his surprise he heard a familiar voice.

“Doctor, are you all right? I have been looking for you.”

“Johnny, I’m so happy to see you. Oh boy, that could have ended badly.”

On this night Dr. Kilroy had a hard time falling asleep. He kept hearing Tygurahs roar again and again.

Fifth chapter: Surprise at the palace.

Meanwhile Miss Pippin and Babloo were on their way to the palace. Their elephant Giri was quite familiar with the jungle. Everything went along without a hitch until they heard the sound on an engine that was coming closer. It was Lord Sinister’s car that was heading straight towards them.

“Babloo, we must avoid him getting his hands on us at all costs.”

Babloo whispered something into Giri’s huge ear. The elephant turned around, picked up a fallen tree trunk with its powerful trunk and hurled with great force onto the road right in front of Lord Sinister’s car. Miss Pippin and Babloo kept on going until darkness started falling. After Babloo had set up their tent at their campsite Miss Pippin started questioning him about the maharaja.

“Does he rule are of this area?”

“Yes, Miss. Him and his royal guards. My village is very poor, and yet we still have to give grain to him. Now that we don’t have anything anymore, he is demanding the sunstone.”

But Miss Pippin didn’t hear the last sentence. Paralysed with fear she whispered: “Help, Babloo, there is a huge snake right behind me. Scare it away.”

“Juti!” The boy yelled. “Would you please leave the lady alone?”

The snake stopped, looked at Babloo, hissed and disappeared.

“She didn’t want to scare you. She was just curious.”

Miss Pippin was still not able to get any words out. That was enough excitement for one day.

The next morning the adventurers met up again 500 meters away from the palace of the maharaja. Babloo was amazed when he held the legendary sunstone in his hands.

“I… I can barely believe it. Thank you, thank you so much.”

Johnny, Dr. Kilroy and Miss Pippin could barely wait to figure out the mystery of the palace. Surprisingly the palace seemed to have been abandoned. Not a single person could be seen.

“Maybe they are all out searching for us?” Guessed Dr. Kilroy.

“Maybe, but we should still be careful. Babloo, you better stay behind for now.” Johnny said, he had a feeling in his gut.

They snuck up to the entrance carefully. And it would turn out that Johnny’s gut was right. Before they were able to look around, the three adventurers were surrounded by Lord Sinister, the maharaja and his royal guards.

“Once more I have outsmarted you, Johnny Thunder.” Lord Sinister said with a satisfied grin on his face. “As soon as I was told by the maharaja that his residence was called the scorpion palace I immediately knew I was in the right place.”

“So you have the treasure?” Johnny Thunder probed.

“No, not yet. Why would I do the work on my own if you could do it for me? You will be my forward scout, you will be exposed to the dangers and solve all the riddles. I will be the one who will be holding the first of the treasures that Marko Polo hid. Bring them into the palace.”

The maharaja gave a sign and so the adventurers were brought to a shrine that had a gigantic statue of a scorpion lying on top of it. Its claws looked as if they would attack anyone who would get too close.

“I discovered a hidden chest underneath the claws. You will get it out.”

“I had no idea that you were such a coward. Are you afraid of an old statue?”

“Nonsense. I’m the greatest adventurer of all time.”

“Truly? What do you have to show off? Nothing. Have you ever excavated a treasure on your own? No, you have always just stolen it from others.”

This caused Sinister to boil over with rage.

“Is that true?” The maharaja asked and embarrassed Sinister even further.

“No, it’s all lies, and I will prove it.” The lord walked up to the scorpion and started pushing the claws apart. But with that he released an ancient mechanism. A gigantic stone ball rolled down from the scorpion’s tail towards Sinister. Moving super quickly, as only fear could make you do, he managed to avoid the ball, just before it tore a huge hole through the wall of the palace.

Through this hole Babloo rode into the place on the back of Giri while Chaiku waited with the rest of the elephant heard outside the entrance.

“Surrender, maharaja!” Babloo cried out courageously. “Your tyranny has come to an end.”

The maharaja had lost. Even his guards couldn’t do anything against an entire heard of elephants.

The three adventures were thrilled with the courage of their young Indian friend. But they still hadn’t found the treasure.

“Do you think that it’s in the chest?” Miss Pippin asked.

But even in the chest they only found a few jewels. Tired and desperate they sat down on the floor. Suddenly Dr. Kilroy noticed a crack in the ceiling where a bright light was shining through. “Eh… maybe… maybe we’ll find something in the attic.” Incredibly, they discovered a trapdoor with a rusty lock. After they had broken the lock they had access to the attic, and there it was. A beautiful golden shield. On the back of it there was attached a piece of silk with a red dot and Chinese writing.

“Let’s combine the piece of silk with our map.” Miss Pippin suggested.

Dr. Kilroy placed the cloth next to their map carefully. “This map leads to the Himalaya mountains. More precisely it leads up Mount Everest. Now we just have to translate the writing on the piece of silk. Wait… just a moment… here it is: “I hid the second treasure in a place of the highest enlightenment.” Another riddle.”

Suddenly they heard a familiar mean laugh in the background. Lord Sinister had managed to sneak away in all the chaos, but he still had time to eavesdrop on them. Now they had to be fast so Lord Sinister wouldn’t get to the next goal before they could. Johnny, Dr. Kilroy and Miss Pippin said a heartfelt goodbye to Babloo. He thanked them again for the priceless sunstone, and looked after his new friends.

Sixth chapter: Race to the peak.

Months later the adventurers arrived in Tibet. The silk map definitely showed the way to Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world. In a monastery they prepared for their expedition and waited for a guide, who was supposed to hurry up. Again and again they thought about Marko Polo’s riddle: “I hid the second treasure in a place of the highest enlightenment.”

“Now we have made it to Tibet, we are standing at the foot of Mount Everest, yet we are still miles away from solving this part of the riddle.” Miss Pippin said, impatient as ever.

“A place of the highest enlightenment? Maybe Marko Polo meant a monastery or a temple by that.”

“I believe you are right, Dr. Kilroy. Maybe it could be a place of worship on the way to the peak of Mount Everest.”

“Very likely. Places of worship are not a rare sight in the mountains.”

The next morning they were woken up by a monk who introduced them to the guide. “This is your Sherpa. His name is Sangye Dorje.”

“Eh… Sangye Dorje, I believe that means thundering lion, am I right?”

Dr. Kilroy spoke a bit of Tibetan.

“You are right. You are surprising and honouring me.” The Sherpa answered.

“Tell me…” Johnny Thunder started. “Do you know a place of worship high up on the mountain?”

“Yes, there are some chapels on the road. And further up the mountain there are the ruins of a Buddhist temple.”

“Could you lead us there?” Johnny asked.

“Absolutely not, sahib. Not during this snowy time of the year and not with the problems that we have had with the yeti lately.”

“Yeti?” Miss Pippin’s eyes started glowing.

“Yes, not long ago we saw 60 cm long footprints. And that is not a good sign. Whoever has been eye to eye with the yeti will be doomed.”

“My valued Sherpa, we appreciate your warning, but we absolutely have to get to that temple.”

“You are just as impatient as the man with the glass eye.”

“A man with a glass eye?” All three yelled at the same time.

“Do you mean Lord Sinister?”

“His name is not known to me. I just know that he is an evil man. He came here with his airplane and asked me exactly the same questions.”

“Sangye, it is of the upmost importance that he must not reach the temple before we do. As you said, he is an evil man. We are aware of the dangers of the journey, but we promise that we won’t let you down.”

The Sherpa thought for a while and then looked at the three friends.

“A Sherpa has to follow his feelings when it comes to tough decisions like this. I will bring you there, because I trust you. But there will be a lot of dangers waiting for us.”

As everyone was ready to set off Johnny unloaded two heavy boxes from the car.

“What are you doing, Johnny?” Miss Pippin asked astonished.

“Sinister is already a good distance ahead of us, now we have to catch up, and this is the right time to use the hot air balloon.”

“But with the strong mountain winds we will never be able to get to the temple.” The Sherpa protested. “We can at best use it for a part of the trip.”

“If you say so, as long as we make up some time.” Johnny said determined.

As soon as they had unpacked the balloon they took off. The winds caused them problems right from the start. But thanks to a motorized propeller Johnny was able to steer the hot air balloon. After a few hours, as they were already hovering far above the mountain rocks, the Sherpa pointed towards a flat level stone plate.

“We should land here, any further up and it would be impossible to steer the balloon.” Sangye yelled.

Everyone was aware that the landing would be turbulent. Johnny warned: “Watch out, heads down!” and soon the balloon basket was scraping along the bare rock for a few meters before it abruptly turned over and stopped.

“I see everyone is okay.” Johnny calmingly acknowledged after everyone climbed out of the basket.

Sangye suggested to immediately setup the night camp in this spot. Before they went to sleep Miss Pippin had to let go of one question. “Do you think we will see the yeti?”

“I hope not.” Sangye said. “But we have to go through its territory. Anything is possible.”

Seventh chapter: A mysterious ice altar.

Just after dawn they moved on. The road was steep, and the edges were sharply cut. Suddenly Sangye stopped. “Oh my, yeti footprints. I must be careful. It could be very close.”

Miss Pippin immediately seized the opportunity and took a picture. A picture of a yeti footprint was better than nothing. After five hours they reached a cliff plateau. Miss Pippin spotted a small ice altar somewhat to the right of the plateau. She paused with fascination. The other ones had not noticed that she hadn’t been following them. Miss Pippin was just about to catch up to the others when she discovered a small drawer in the altar. Curiously she opened the drawer. A muffled roar could be heard and at a gate opened. Stunned Miss Pippin looked into the cave behind it. Her eyes fell directly onto the yeti, which lay in a corner and snorted frighteningly. Angry at having been interrupted in its sleep the yeti set itself into motion. Miss Pippin stood in the snow while she shivered. Johnny Thunder screamed with all the air in his lungs: “Miss Pippin! Run away!” Then she unexpectedly and instinctively took up the only weapon that she had at hand, her camera. She pushed the trigger three times after another. The bright camera flash frightened the yeti immensely. Its eye were blinded so badly that it stumbled around until it hit its head against a rock and passed out on the ground. Miss Pippin could barely believe it. She was still staring at the camera when the others got to her.

“At least you now have the photos that you wanted, right?” Johnny tried to relieve the tension a bit. “Could we keep on going now?”

“No.” Sangye said. “To us mountain people the yeti is sacred. We have to help it.”

The yeti had a huge bump on its head, but it was not seriously injured. They put a bandage on its head and moved on as fast as their feet would let them. Who could know when the snow giant would awaken from its unconsciousness? And they were still far away from the goal. After three days of gruelling foot marches the temple was finally within sight. It was standing on the neighbouring mountain top, and the only way over was across a rope bridge. It was old and didn’t make a very safe impression.

“We… don’t want to go over the bridge, do we?” Miss Pippin tried her best to hide her fear.

“I fear there is no other way. Sangye is absolutely certain of that.”

They started crossing the bridge, then it happened. Rip, one of the ropes tore. The weight of the four mountain climbers was too much.

“Oh my! I knew this wasn’t a good idea.” Miss Pippin was unable to hide her fear any longer.

“Don’t worry, I’ll get us over.” Johnny said confidently. “We have to walk across it one after the other. Dr. Kilroy goes first, then Miss Pippin, then Sangye. I will stay in the middle of the bridge and try to keep the ends of the rope together.”

Carefully one after the other crossed the fragile path.

“Hurry up! I don’t know how much longer I can hold this together!”

As Sangye had almost reached the other side the next rope tore.

“Johnny! If you go any further the bridge will collapse. What now?”

“Tie a rope around the bolder behind you and throw the other end of the rope to me! Hurry!”

Quickly they tied their thickest rope around the boulder. The Sherpa threw the rope skilfully right next to Johnny’s body. He reached out for it, and two seconds later the entire bridge collapsed. As he had no more ground under his feet he swung towards a small cliff underneath the boulder and landed rather uncomfortably. The other pulled him up together.

“Johnny Thunder, you saved all our lives.” Dr. Kilroy was relieved that his friend was safe.

“Oh, you three saved my life too. So I would say that we’re even.” Johnny laughed.

Eighth chapter: Inside the abandoned temple.

As expected the temple was abandoned, and the massive entrance doors had clearly not been opened by anyone for decades. Because of that it took a while to pick the rusty lock. Johnny went in first and lit up his path with his flashlight. Suddenly he heard a hiss. Two axes swung down from the ceiling, they were coming straight at him. Instinctively he dropped to the ground. The axes just barely missed him by a few centimetres.

“Are you alright? Are you injured?” Miss Pippin asked.

“I’m fine, but my moustache almost bought it.” Typical Johnny Thunder bravado.

“Wait a minute, what is that light over there?” Dr. Kilroy yelled.

“Let’s take a look.”

They went up a few steps and laid their eyes on a statue that was decorated with a large ruby.

“Could that be the treasure? I’ll take a closer look at it.”

“Stop! You won’t go anywhere, Miss Pippin Reed.”

“Sinister! How did you get here?”

“Well, if you absolutely want to know I used my biplane and then climbed the rest of the way. Get to it! Go over to the corner over there and don’t make a move. It’s good that you have already disarmed all the traps for me. Now I’ll get the treasure.”

While the others reluctantly moved out of the way, Sinister greedily ran towards the statue. As he reached out to grab the jewel he triggered another trap. he was thrown out of the temple in a high arch through a hatch .

“Not agaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin!”

“For being a harmless temple this building sure is well secured, almost too well secured if you ask me.” Dr. Kilroy said what everyone was thinking.

“Yes, but we still don’t have any traces of the treasure.” Johnny said while he picked up the jewel which Sinister had dropped. “Maybe the ruby was supposed to lead us on a false track, and the treasure is not here at all. Hmm, I suggest that we should search the outside of the building.”

They swept around the temple, and Miss Pippin used the opportunity to take photos of the temple and its surroundings. Eventually they discovered an M, which had been chiselled into a cliff wall. Everyone suspected that the M could stand for Marko, Marko Polo. Johnny stepped in closer and discovered a hole in the wall underneath the M.

“Strange, but then again maybe not.” Johnny decided to follow his intuition of putting the ruby into the hole. He heard a quiet click and suddenly it was clear to all of them that they had found what they had been searching for.

“Help me; we have to push open the door.”

Together they succeeded in pushing the stone door aside. There it lay before them, a golden sword, wrapped in a piece of silk. Finally they had found the second treasure and the third piece of silk for the map. After they had placed the cloth next to the map they had brought along, they saw that the final treasure was located in China, in front of the gates of the city of Xi’an. This time the message from Marko Polo was: “You will find the final treasure where you expect it the least.” Not very helpful, but at least it was the final riddle that they had to solve.

Chapter nine: The search for the Dragon Fortress.

Our adventures travelled to the north, into the middle kingdom. Their goal was Xi’an, one of the biggest cities of China. After a few days they reached the famous Great Wall of China. The dimensions of this, one of the greatest monuments of the earth, was breath-taking and left the travellers overwhelmed. Miss Pippin took one photo after another and was already picturing what kind of article she was going to write for the newspaper in her mind. The adventurers kept on driving, and as the surrounding settlements got more numerous they knew that the city of Xi’an couldn’t be far away any more. Eventually they got to the city wall which hid city’s narrow and angled streets lay behind. There were people everywhere. Foreign dishes were being sold at the edges of the street and the smells of exotic spices were in the air. They were unable to go any further with the car in this chaos. As such they continued their way on foot. They agreed that the last treasure had to be hidden in the pagoda of the former emperor Kublai Kahn. However, they didn’t know where the pagoda was. After they had been walking around for hours, the three had to admit that they were completely lost. Suddenly someone poked Miss Pippin on the shoulder.

“Please help me, I need something to eat for my family. My father is very ill.” The beggar was a stunningly beautiful young Chinese girl.

“What is your name?” Dr. Kilroy asked softly.

“Jing Lee, sir.”

“And you need something to eat?”

“Yes, sir. My father has sick lungs. It is important that he must regain his strength.”

They gave the girl some of their food and Miss Pippin gave her a little bag with healing tea.

“Thank you, how will I be able to repay you?”

“Maybe you can help us find something. We are looking for the pagoda where the former emperor Kublai Kahn lived.”

“The pagoda is called the Dragon Fortress by the locals. Emperor Chang Wu, a merciless mandarin, controls the entire city from there with his army. What do you want to do in such an evil place?”

“We have to go there because we want to prevent that something very valuable falls into the false hands.”

“The emperor is a corrupt man and he has brought a lot of suffering to my people. I will be happy to help you.”

“Then show us the way to the pagoda, Jing Lee.” Johnny Thunder said.

They walked to the other end of the city and arrived at a lake.

“To get to the fortress we have to cross the lake.” Jing Lee explained.

From their hiding place behind the trees they could see a group of Chinese guards and a familiar face.

“Imagine that, Lord Sinister is here too. At least that means that we are on the right track.” Johnny dryly acknowledged.

There was a little boat at the shore of the lake, where a Chinese man was repairing some fishing nets. The Chinese girl went over to him and came back a few minutes later.

“Wong is an old friend. He will help us to get over the lake.”

They got into the boat and hid between the nets and the containers.

“What are you searching for in the pagoda?”

“We are looking for a golden dragon that once belonged to an Italian explorer. He was an ambassador for Kublai Kahn in thirteenth century.” Dr. Kilroy explained.

Half an hour later Wong the fisher let them off on the island.

Tenth chapter: The magical corridor.

They had gotten onto the island without getting noticed. Now the four of them were hiding behind some shrubs and thinking about how they should proceed.

“This place seems pretty quiet.” Dr. Kilroy said.

“We already thought that once. I’m sure we are being expected here too.” Johnny said.

As they got closer to the fortress they noticed two guards standing in front of the gate.

“I’ll take care of those two.” Johnny said. “You’ll stay where you are.”

Jing countered: “I’ll come along. Since I’m the daughter of a martial arts teacher I might be of some use.”

That convinced Johnny. He and Jing Lee snuck up to the side of the gate, tackled the guards, and took them out.

“Johnny?” the voice of Dr. Kilroy sounded.

“Doctor, I said that you were supposed to stay hidden.” While he talked Johnny turned around and noticed that Dr. Kilroy and Miss Pippin had been captured by a dozen soldiers. Behind them stood Lord Sinister, who was carrying a golden helmet. Next to him stood a man in some pompous Chinese robes.

“I assume you are the emperor?”

“That’s true. And you are my prisoners.”

They were brought into the hall of the heavily guarded fortress. Chang Wu sat proudly on the old throne that once belonged to Kublai Kahn while Lord Sinister was circling around the adventurers like a rattlesnake.

“Your adventure ends here. I demand that you hand over the treasures that you have found so far.”

Reluctantly Johnny gave him the golden shield and the golden sword.

“What a valuable addition for my private collection. It wasn’t hard to find the golden helmet. It was hanging directly above the throne of the emperor.”

“So in a place where no one would expect anything unusual.” Dr. Kilroy said sadly.

“And look at this. As Chang Wu sat on the throne while wearing the helmet a spike on it pushed on a hidden button. The entrance to the secret chamber was opened.”

“Why are you even telling us all of this?” Dr. Kilroy asked nervously.

“Because I want to prove to you, that I’m the greatest treasure hunter in the world.”

Chang Wu gave the guards a signal to bring the prisoners to a cell in the dungeon. Now Jing Lee had to act. She whistled loudly. A few seconds later dozens of young Chinese people stormed though the entrance of the palace. Jing had told Wong to sail back and gather the rebels to make a last daring attack on the “emperor”. A great fight started. Jing Lee’s friends were all former students of her father and they knew how they had to deal with the guards. Soon the battle got so heated that even Miss Pippin was hitting people and Dr. Kilroy was socking people in the jaw. But Lord Sinister used the chaos; he grabbed the golden helmet and the other treasures, and snuck into the secret chamber and locked the door from the inside. Chang Wu and his men were defeated by Jing Lee and the brave rebels.

“I will make sure that no one escapes. Run and find the treasure.” She yelled to her friends.

They ran towards the throne, the hidden switch had to be somewhere. Dr. Kilroy discovered it thanks to his magnifying glass and the door opened once more. Ahead of them there was a long dark corridor, which walls were covered with numerous mirrors, old pictures of ancestors and trophies. But at the end of it they were able to spot Sinister. He was standing in front of a chest full of glittering and sparkling things.

Miss Pippin was confused. “A simple treasure chest? That doesn’t fit with Marko Polo’s riddles. That must be a distraction. Typical that the greedy Lord would fall for such a trick.”

“You are right, Miss Pippin. I have to search for something else.” Johnny thought as well.

Carefully and with eager eyes they searched the walls.

“Strange.” Dr. Kilroy thought out loud as he stood in front of a painting. “Johnny, this picture caught my eye.”

“I’m more curious about the smaller pictures on the right and left of it.” Miss pippin entered the discussion.

Johnny took a few steps back and then he had an idea.

“The tree pictures together look like an oriental gate. I’m sure there must be another corridor hidden behind them.”

“Then we’ll have to see if the stone lion maw next to the pictures would be the key to opening it.” Dr. Kilroy grumbled while he hesitantly put his hand into the maw.

“Out of my way, you coward!” Sinister stood behind them and was waving a pistol around like crazy. As he pushed his hand ever deeper and deeper into the lion’s maw he felt a rope loop. The Lord pulled the rope. With a loud creak the middle picture opened like a spinning door.

Eleventh chapter: A guardian of stone.

“Don’t move!” Lord Sinister screeched hysterically as the picture swung to the side. Behind it an imposing statue of a Chinese warrior equipped with sword and shield was revealed.

“The treasure belongs to me and me alone! Finally, finally I will get what I deserve, ah!” And he started pushing down the long lever next to the statue.

“Erh, be careful, Sinister, Marko Polo was a calculating man. If I were in your place I would be careful with that lever.”

“There is no noble blood flowing in your veins, no wonder that you are so afraid.”

A loud thunder rolled through the room. But instead of opening a secret door that would lead to the treasure the statue opened its cold eyes, a terrifying sight.

“Who dares to disturb the peace of Kublai Kahn’s guardian? Who?”

The guardian took a step and the entire room shook as he put down his heavy foot. Then the next step. Sinister decided to run for his life. He dropped everything in his hands and ran away as fast as he could, he didn’t even take a single gemstone with him. The guardian swung its scimitar and its voice rung: “You have been struck by the curse of Kublai Kahn!”

As soon as Sinister had disappeared the statue turned back into stone again. Johnny, Miss Pippin and Dr. Kilroy could not believe what they had just witnessed.

“We must find the golden dragon, and I don’t think that this one is going to help us with it.” Said Miss Pippin. “Any suggestions?”

“The dear Sinister was kind enough to leave the three treasures behind from Marko Polo’s riddles. Let’s switch the golden helmet, the golden shield and the golden sword with the pieces on the statue.” Johnny suggested.

“Isn’t that too dangerous?” Dr. Kilroy asked and briefly closed his eyes.

“With all the adventures we have made it through we can’t just quit now. The idea crossed my mind when I saw the guardian swing its sword. The artefacts that we have found match exactly the ones that the statue is carrying.”

“Yes, that must be the solution.” Miss Pippin excitedly threw into the conversation.

They briefly looked at one another, as if to confirm their decision. One after another they placed the artefacts on the statue, and in awe gathered at the switch.

“I think the moment of truth has come. “ Miss Pippin said in awe.

Johnny pushed the lever. The deafening noise sounded once more and for the second time the guardian opened its eyes. For a brief moment Johnny thought that he might have been wrong. This time though the guardian grabbed the keys on its belt that had turned to gold, handed them over to Johnny and turned to stone again, this time forever.

(Deep breath) What now?” Miss Pippin asked relieved.

“Friends, we now have two keys and take a look at the two side paintings from the back. Both have a door lock.” Dr. Kilroy proudly stated his discovery.

Johnny handed over the two keys to Miss Pippin and Dr. Kilroy and the two of the walked towards the two locked doors. They just had to put the keys into the locks when the small gates moved. Oddly enough they didn’t lead back into the corridor, which would have been logical, but into a round, beautiful room with a great dome. And what was standing in the middle of the room? A gigantic, beautiful, golden dragon. It was absolutely perfect, and it was so fantastically made that it almost looked as if it as alive. On its podium there was an inscription, which Dr. Kilroy translated right away.

“Praised adventurers, you have put a long journey behind you and faced many dangers. Now bring this wondrous golden dragon to a place where many people can enjoy it and tell the tale of this treasure, the exotic places and the different cultures. The people must understand that only true friendship matters. Marko Polo.”

All of them were touched by the beauty of the golden dragon and Marko Polo’s message. The feeling was so wonderful that they just stood there in silence for a few minutes. They couldn’t believe their luck. They had made it through their greatest adventure so far.

“We made it, Johnny.” Dr. Kilroy was already thinking about where he would exhibit the dragon in the London museum.

“It’s not over yet.” Johnny said.

“Why?” The both of the asked surprised.

“We still have to bring the golden dragon back to London, and that’s an adventure of its own.” He said while laughing.

Dr. Kilroy thought about what Johnny had said and fainted.

“Doctor, wake up doctor, wake up.”

Behind them the eyes of the dragon started glowing; maybe it was alive after all?

The end

Our story starts on a sunny morning in June of 1925. In London, the day started just like any other for Dr. Kilroy. He left his house to walk to his job at the London Museum

Good to know that Dr. Kilroy works there

Months later the adventurers arrived in Tibet.

How could it take MONTHS to get to Tibet? Did they take some sort of break? Especially if they are racing against Lord Sinister.

I had this open in a tab to read and then must have accidentally closed it, it slipped my mind. There's some interesting differences with the online/magazine comics here, though they follow the same general plot... And Ngan Pa doesn't appear at all (I don't remember if he was in the comics or not). Much thanks for translating!

I know I'm five years late, but I've got to report the results of my research regarding why the two adventure audio dramas have so little in common. But before I do that I'll give a little bit of my backstory with the 1990s german audio dramas. So I first discovered some but not all of them on YouTube in late summer of 2014 (I was 10 at the time), these being:

The two western dramas: "Steckbrief für den Kopfgeldjäger" and "Der falsche General"

The two castle dramas: "Hokuspokus Zauberstab" and "Der Sohn des Königs"

The two city/police dramas: "Die Botschaft von Lars" and "Gangster, Gauner und Ganoven"

Two of the pirate dramas: "Piratensegel am Horizont" and "Insel der schaurigen Masken"

The first of the time cruiser dramas: "Testflug TC13"

And finally, the two adventure dramas: "Die Jagd nach dem Pharaonenschatz" and "Orient Expedition"

Even as a kid I couldn't help but notice how much "Orient Expedition" stood out from the rest like a sour thumb. But then again, I didn't spent too much time thinking about it. As I grew older my interest kinda faded away, until I discovered your posts in this forum regarding the subject. I was actually pretty surprised that the audio dramas didn't go totally unnoticed outside of the german-speaking territories. Anyway, back to the subject, so: after reading this very post I remembered that feeling regarding "Orient Expedition" and so decided to dig for answers this time around. And here's what I found:

1. With the exception of "Orient Expedition", all of the dramas I listed where produced around the sime time, being from 1995 to 1998. You can actually tell that rather well, as they all have the same Director/Producer (Hans-Joachim Herwald), Head Writer (Susanne Schindler-Günther) and several even share actors. For instance, the actor who voiced Joe Freeman in "Die Jagd nach dem Pharaonenschatz", Eberhard Haar (who is also well known in Germany as the voice actor of Scoop from Bob the Builder and The Fat Controller from Thomas the Tank Engine), also voiced Sheriff Silver in the two western dramas. Two more examples would be Sascha Draeger (most well known for his role as Tim in the TKKG Audio Drama Series), who voiced both Bo'sun Will in the pirate dramas and Dickens in the castle dramas, and Achim Schülke (best known as the German Voice of Spud from Bob the Builder), who served as the narrator for the pirate, city/police and castle dramas; in "Der falsche General" he voiced the character of General Mack Maxwell.

2. The "Orient Expedition" one, on the other hand, was produced in the early 2000s. When exactly I can't tell, but it was released in 2003, appearently to coincide with the launch of the Orient Expedition adventurers sub theme. However, it wasn't available for sale, but rather given as a promo item to people who'd purchase one of the Orient Expedition Lego Sets at a Vedes Toy store. Note: Vedes is a chain of toy stores based in Nuremberg, Germany.
