Kakureon Posted September 30, 2016 Hi all. I am in the U.K. and collect different things, such as Marvel comics and original hot wheels cars, the sweet 16 from 1967/68. I would love to start a little Lego collection and want it to be Star Wars so was wondering if you could give me some advice on what sets to go for first. Thanks. grum64 Posted September 30, 2016 (edited) Welcome to Eurobricks Kakureon I'm sorry, I can't help you with your request but you've certainly come to the right place. Edited September 30, 2016 by grum64
That Orange Thing Posted September 30, 2016 Hi kakureon and welcome. What era of Star Wars you into? Original? Prequels/clones? Force awakens? I think if you concentrate on building on one perticular era/theme it becomes a lot more manageable, less expensive and enjoyable. also are you looking to collect minifigs? Ships? Play sets? UCS? Army build? Let us know what your into and the friendly folk around here will help you out.
Kakureon Posted September 30, 2016 Thanks for the welcome. Being over 40 now I think I would like original, but also like force awakens, original being first choise. Not minifigs, like the sound of ships. Total newbie so UCS and Army build??? Help?

Ucs is the ultimate collectors edition, but this topic is kind of the hornets nest with this year's sets :) I'd recommend some research first. All in all, as someone who also just started collecting Lego a few years ago, I'd start with checking out the current selection e.g. on the official Lego site, pick one you like, and start building, and familiarise with the different building techniques. Also worth keeping an eye on the various custom builds here, and gather ideas for your own build if you feel you'd be into creating something on your own once you're proficient enough. Lobot Posted September 30, 2016 Hi Kakureon, and welcome to Eurobricks! LEGO are currently offering 'Force Friday' special deals on their website which run until Sunday, but you'll need to be a VIP member to qualify. If you're interested in spending some money, I'd call their Customer Service Team and see if they can create an account for you. They're currently offering triple points which is basically 15% of the total spent, which you can then redeem against future purchases. Shipping is free on orders above £50, plus there's also a free Episode VII Stormtrooper polybag with orders. If you're looking for impressive OT ships; either the UCS Slave 1 (75060) or UCS TIE Fighter (75095) are well worth a look. For future reference, there's a general Q&A thread pinned to the top of the forum. I'll merge this with it in a bit
That Orange Thing Posted September 30, 2016 Lobot has made some great suggestions there. Slave 1 is a must buy if you can afford it but I'd also add imperial shuttle tydirium 75094 as a great build on a smaller budget. It's been out a while and if you shop around a bit you can get a decent discount. If minifigs aren't really your thing then you can sell them to cover some of the cost of the set. You'd be surprised how expensive they can be or as an alternative buy second hand ship sets as people will often keep the minifigs and sell the ship at a much cheaper price. Star Wars minifigs are a big Lego draw so that can work to your advantage but once you have one in hand you'll want more, trust me.
Tariq j Posted September 30, 2016 I know it hasn't been the most popular but Assualt on Hoth actually a good buy since you don't own any Hoth Sets. The current Death Star is okay, although if you know someone who has the old Death Star and is willing to sell it to you I'd go for that option. Army my building can be done best on Bricklink, but if you're looking for sets, battle packs are definitely the best option.

I wouldn't start with a UCS set though. If you start with those, standard sets will always be subpar.

Sucram Posted October 1, 2016 Get all the iconic ships from whatever era your into first, then expand.
Kakureon Posted October 1, 2016 Thanks so much people. Can't wait to get started. I am off out in a bit but looks like I will be doing quite a bit of looking later this afternoon. My budget today is £250 but would like a couple of sets rather than just 1 for my first purchase.
Robianco Posted October 1, 2016 Even if it takes up most of your budget I'd recommend Slave 1 as it's a great set and is minifigure scale. As an OT fan you've now also got the option of picking up the AT-ST from Rogue One. Those two sets would cost you £210 so there'd still be a little wiggle room for something else. Alternatively you could get the Shuttle Tydirium which is really nice. There's also Vader's TIE v A-Wing. The Slave 1 and Tydirium sets would be bang on your £250 budget. Kakureon Posted October 2, 2016 All the sets you mentioned are on my list. Slave 1 is for sure the one I am going to buy, along with Vader's TIE advanced vs A-wing starfighter. next month Imperial shuttle Tydirium and AT-ST I think :)
Only Sinner Posted October 2, 2016 What about the 75105 Millennium Falcon? Sure, it's technically a TFA set, but the 75105 is the best system scale Falcon to date, and except for the sensor dish, makes a perfect OT Falcon. Assuming the OP doesn't have one already, then one cannot really find a better model for a proper LSW collection than this one, UCS notwithstanding. I mean, what's a Star Wars collection without a Millennium Falcon?
Kakureon Posted October 2, 2016 Funny you should mention that, about a couple of hours ago I asked about the MF on another thread. Looks like it's another set on my wish list.
